update froyo 2.2 for orange htc desire

Just called orange cs for a laugh. The superviser that I ended up taking to advised me that I could download 2.2 from the HTC or android website.

That is not true.

Oh dear, does anybody at orange really know what it going on?

I was told that I could manually get 2.2 by checking settings > About Phone > System software updates and I would find it there.

"Oy yes, 2.2 came out today." she said.

Its not there.

I'm getting fed up with this. Have people really been downloading the update, or is it just a big wind up by Orange to annoy their customers even more?

I'm doing a check for updates on mine and it's said "checking..." for just over an hour. I'm leaving it checking just in case this could be my big moment.

Happened to me before and it was a freeze. Hope you have more luck tho

Me to last night, at the end of the day, if it was going to come through it would have. Press back, then try again, same thing no bloody update!!! Good luck if it does though, been trying since Tuesday, about......errmmm lost count! Orange need to sort it out really

Yep - pressed back, checked again + it said I was up to date. Will check in the morning + if nothing comes up it's D-Day, where D stands for debrand. Sick of Orange arsing about.

I have just debranded. Was worried about doing it, but it was really simple. Froyo update came through straight away. As long as you remove sim card and have gold card in when you update, you wont simlock or lose wi fi. Best thing i've done. Now have a nice fast desire with no Orange crap on it.

Which guide did you follow, and which ROM did you use?

Also, regarding SIM locks, do you have to take your SIM card out every time you do an update?

None of the debranding tutorials i've seen are written in simple enough English for me to understand!

Is there an idiots guide to debranding so I can get this blimming froyo update to install on my Desire?

I used this tutorial for the goldcard Debranding / Unlocking an HTC Desire - The giffgaff community
and used this for downloading the RUU and debranding http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/148932-froyo-ruu-update-available.html

Ignore the Froyo (2.09.405.8) update - Windows not required part.

followed this How to debrand an HTC Desire and update to Froyo - Broadband Genie. I am fairly new to android, but i think yes, you have to remove simcard whenever you update and put the goldcard in.

My experience is that you definitely need to have the goldcard in for the upgrade to work properly, but I did not remove my unlocked Orange sim either when originally installing FroYo nor for the FroYo update that they pushed out a couple of weeks ago.

This is why some of us can't upgrade yet including myself:

"If you are running software version number 1.15.61.10 then*HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1."

This upgrade will be soon.

From the Orange help section:
Software update for the HTC desire (Android 2.2) | help & support | Orange UK

(Note: I have the black desire, maybe all black ones had the older software)

Thanks for the info. I have the black version and you're right it's running 1.15.61.10. The question is why has Orange got phones running on different versions? I thought Orange would have learnt from the htc hero update, well lets hope this reflects negatively on Orange so they actually do something about their many problems. Am leaving Orange pretty soon, had enough of their rubbish.

There's no date on that information, I wonder when it was posted?

Strange that the black version seems to have older software, it's newer than the original brown model.....

Thanks for this. I've been pulling me hair out the last few days wondering what the heck is going on!
Shame we have to wait a week after froyo has been rolled out before HTC will put our software update out!!
Just one annoyance after the other!

The page doesn't say "soon" - it says "early next week". Also the info about the staging of the update was only posted on the Orange site late yesterday or early today - it wasn't there yesterday afternoon.

I have a black desire but am on 1.22.61.1, but have still had no update. I bought it late August so that may explain why it is 1.22.61.1?

I've finally debranded. Took about 20 minutes from start to finished and worked like a charm.
