OTA Update Starting today?

so has anyone seen if this update can be extracted from the phone and uploaded to those of us that were not lucky enough to be in the first batch of updates? (launch day buyer i was hoping i got it :( )

BGR (or boygenuisreports) just posted a article saying that according to verizon only 10,000 people will get the update by midnight tonight and then on Dec 10th they will roll out 200,00 more updates a day until every droid owner has been updated! Thats VERY ANNOYING VERIZON!

Why is this annoying? Everyone will get their's in just a matter of a few days, geez! Infact, no one was scheduled to get it until 12/11/09, yet many are getting it early. There is nothing to be annoyed about.

Launch day here also.... I'm sure someone is working on it :)

But you might get the real update before a "hack".

Honestly, give it some time... Release wasn't until 12/11, so you are all just dying for the latest and greatest.

I am too :)

Hmmm, I had a tilt2, piece of crap. Great fanboi exclamations at first, but it's a bulky phone and doesn't do 1/2 of the droid.

Thanks for playing, how is your droid update going?

I had the first tilt, not too awful, though it was windows mobile... Believed the rumors that android would work on there. Still not 100% ported over to it. Still no updates in Xenia Ohio.... :(

Hey, just because we're impatient instant gratification people doesn't make us bad people! ;)

(iPhone convert to Droid, day 5)
Hey PardNah, how ya making out with finding Android counterparts (to iPhone apps) for your Droid?

AT&T's netwon't, combined with Apple's Google Voice rejection, sent me scampering back in September. Grabbed a MyTouch. Nice, but played an obvious second fiddle to my iPhone 3GS (moved up from original). Fortunately, TMo introduced their new no-contract plans, so I switched. Finally bit for the Droid a week ago today, and been grinning like a maniac ever since. To be on a true netWORK(s!!) is beyond a thrill, and the Droid is all I hoped it would be and then some. This bad boy plays second fiddle to no one! Both the MyTouch and the iPhone will be on CraigsList shortly.

Found the apps I cared most about. Only one thing is futzing me, unique to the Droid. Can't seem to get Google Voice to relate to BOTH an SMS ringer and ringtone for phone. Keeps playing my phone ringtone for SMS and email. So, that's keeping me busy til the OTA hits. Weird, since I had no such hassle on the MyTouch. Go figure, eh?!

Nice to see a kindred spirit in these parts!

@krichek: My wording was bad, but I was saying the same thing.

My bad, I assumed you were saying it was because of the update that it was working now hehe.

If it matters to anyone I have an '09 Dodge Avenger with Nav. I upgraded the firmware on it about a month ago so the option may not be available before that, I never tried as I didn't use the bluetooth on my Touchpro at all.

For me it was two clicks, I simply hit the uconnect button my on radio, then clicked the little phonebook icon at the bottom of the screen.. Roughly 20 seconds later I got a notification on the Droid that the radio wanted phonebook access. I allowed it and the download of my contacts completed in about 30 seconds or so.

I want to shoot myself because I received the update in the notifications bar... and I decided before I start to install I should kill some tasks, so I did and then it went away. Now when I go to "Settings"->"About phone"->"System updates"... It shows that there isn't one. I messed up.

I havent gotten mine yet but am hoping to be one of those two thousand recieving it again tonight at midnight, if so i will try the above link and report on outcome...

Yeah, I was going to suggest a reboot. It seems like other people are still getting it now, so if you happen to see the notice, it'd be much appreciated if you try that trick out.

Just a guess, but maybe restarting the device will let you see the update again?

Tried that. Nope. Very weird. I did read on Verizon's site that if you choose "Install later" it will remind you every 30 minutes.

It doesn't say what will happen if you're an idiot and use task killer to remove the notification that says there is an update available.

Since so many are hanging out on this thread for awhile yet, can someone enlighten me on the "update your phone list to your blue tooth " ....I'm so confused by some of the replies in this thread regarding this.

I have a Jabra sp700, which I can't get to work the way it did with my blackberry. I paired the phone to the jabra and connected. If I pushed the button once it would say "say a command" I say call "Joe mobile" etc.....

Some folks seem to be saying in this thread that you can update your bluetooth device via your Droid to update the phone book on the bluetooth? Please tell me how this is done?

tia :)

are you sure it was the firmware update and not the google map update notification? i got a notification and got all excited but it was just the google map update :(

go into the market and check if thats what it was.

Another question....this OTA map we can see on our phone? How do you get that "layer" ?? I have the most updated maps on my Droid, but this layer does not show up.

Just checked for updates for the 4th time lol.

I think those who have the updates are the guinea pigs. They said allow 48 hrs? By that time they would see a backlash if the update has bugs don't you think?
