update froyo 2.2 for orange htc desire

I've just updated to 1.22 and my phone is now stuck on "restoring your data and settings from the backup..." It's been like this for about 15 minutes. Should I leave it or do a battery-pull :s

mines updating right now :D finally

done one update before but it wasnt for 2.2 then the 2.2 one came straight after. Hoping all goes well...

Mine is doing the same with the restore :(

I waited it out and it eventually finished. Just waiting for my restore after 2.2.

It's hard to believe that we've actually got it now! I don't know who to fire abusive tweets at now... ;)

LOL I agree who are we going to rant and shout at ?

Happy to have got my update this evening, so far so good, haven't come across any problems. I still can't forgive Orange for the constant lying and delays plus its almost 2 months since the unlocked version got theirs, but atleast am nt as angry as earlier. Also, I wish Orange had kept us in check on the status of the update than leaving us in the dark. But am happy non-the less.

Lesson learnt: dont buy branded again, unlocked is a safer option.

I agree.

Update went well though. Guys if the phone is acting bit weird during upgrade just let it be and it will sort itself out. Apps to SD was as disappointing as everyone said it will be. So will have to try the force install method.

have updated to the interim load, (cant remember the exact numbers), but the phone seems to be stuck on 'restoring data and settings from the backup'? How long is it supposed to take as Ive sat here for ten minutes watching the little wheel spin around?

I turned it off after 10 mins and there didn't seem to be any problems. My texts are all repeated but I don't know if this is to do with the restore.

The WiFi hotspot can be seen by my laptop but no internet. Does anyone think that Orange have done something to it?

Just had my update in am in Wales! Always last! I don't see thqt many changes though! I thought the menu of apps changed into a cube and the interface changed ??

So they couldn't even hit September, let alone mid-September like they said it'd be. Don't know why I haven't rooted mine yet. Even chuffing O2 got their update out first and they got the phone itself out a month later than everyone else because they're big on testing.

Ok I've had more than enough time with Froyo, luckily I haven't got any problems.

For those with problems updating: I sat next to the router for maximum signal strength, also although it didn't use much power, it helps if you have almost full charge, just incase it drags on abit. I don't have much info to backup & restore, so that feature worked flawlessly and quickly. Also, helps if you leave the phone alone once you hit 'install', than pressing buttons or playing with the phone if you think it drags on abit, just be patient.

Any Changes: the only change in 2.2 is its speed, though it's not blazingly faster than 2.1, there is some noticable speed difference. Also, there are a few more apps and the market layout has changed abit. HTC widgets have also changed abit in the looks department. The apps2SD is crap, can't move many of my apps so surves no purpose for me. The look of the OS is rumored to change with Gingerbread or Honeycombe, but I doubt we'll see it officially come to the Desire, although I really hope am wrong. I think this is it for the Desire interms of updates, even though it's powerful enough and capable to run newer versions.

I'm in the same position; my devices can see the hotspot but nothing gets an internet connection.

I get the feeling that Orange have b0rked it in some way.

mmm just checked update and mine is downloading, looks like orange have finally made it live...

and i have the older black one with 1.15 or what ever it was....

Cheers

Hi,

Have just spoken to Orange who as usual are clueless. They told me that they knew nothing about the requirement of being on 1.22.6.10 before you could update.

I then decided that it would be a good idea to talk to HTC as it appears they are the ones that role out the releases. They say that both updates have been passed to orange and that it is them who release the update. HTC have nothing to do with it.

As usual it looks like it is Desire owner tennis between HTC and Orange help.

Just to make some people happier, my brother has 1.22.6.10 on his phone and got an update for 2.2 through earlier today. Unfortunately it says you should connect to WIFI to do it and he has not got WIFI connection where he was. He therefore had to cancel the update. Does anyone know if the update will reappear when he does a manual search???

The Update is definately targetting csome phones just not those woh got the phone early!!!!

i did my update over the phone only took 10 mins to do both of them but in total about 40 odd mins to update then turning its self off then back on to do what it needed to do

i thought that froyo will be completelyy different like the videos on youtube.the screen only turns landscape on websites and in gallery but the apps menu is not 3D and when i can see all 6 screens at once i cannot move them or reduce the number of screens.it was not worth the wait...! i expected BETTER..much better infact!

wifi hotspot shows LIMITED ACESS and the internet doesnt work!

maybe i should route my phone to get all the features?

Are you sure those videos weren't talking about LauncherPro Plus? That app has all the features you mentioned. Never heard of 2.2 getting those features.

My Hotspot was not working either but I am psting this on my Mac connected to my HTC Hotspot as I clicked on manage users and then clicked on my computer's name in the connected users box.

Try it and let me know if this was a fluke or not?
