Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Loaded the OTA 2.2 SBF and then flashed to Apex RC2.

So far looks good. I had to add back in a couple of apps I need from the base install, but no real issues.

I deleted the tranQ launcher, because I use launcher pro.

I deleted the basic browser as I use Dolphin.

I deleted BatteryManager, as I use JuiceDefender Beta.

Loaded back in ToggleWidgets.apk and the two BlurEmail apks.

since flashing the 2.2 sbf and installing rc2 my batt life has been awesome i also added some build props which also help .....prior to rooting while running 2.2 ota my batt life was TERRIBLE,i would unplug my x at 6am and by 9am with fairly heavy use i was at 40 -50 %.....now i am going heavy for 12 plus hours and still at 60%!

I noticed today that my calls don't show up if I am on a call. You can hear the incoming call beep but no way to answer it, anyone else?

Ok... So after fighting windows 7 and sbf and rsd lite, I flashed the 2.2sbf. That went well.

Factory Reset
Rooted
Installed Rom Manger, bootstrap.
Bootstrapped Recovery
Rebooted into recovery
Mounted System
installed from sdcard
Selected and installed RC2

On reboot, nothing. 2.2 stock blur invested phone

Repeated steps with steps above

On reboot, nothing. 2.2 stock blur invested phone

Repeated a 3rd time steps used rom manager

On reboot, nothing. 2.2 stock blur invested phone

Repeated a 4th time with steps above, no rom manager

On reboot, nothing. 2.2 stock blur invested phone.

What am I not doing right? I have installed 2 different kind of roms and 15+ tranq updates never a problem.

I think it half installed once... some things are different then first install, lock screen and such.

My wallpaper is the same as when I had 2.1...

What am i doing wrong or not doing right?

If you're using ROM Manager, did you try bypassing the ROM Manager, and just installing from zip in recovery mode?

First off I want to thank everyone who posted in this forum, I was able to easily use the official sbf 2.2, root , and try Apex RC2 out!!!

!!!!! Fabolous Thank you for your very hard work!!!!!!!

THANK YOU

This is for knowledge only and after reading so many "this is the best thing" etc..

Now my findings are something different from what everyone has found but that may be to how much screwed up their previous load was (or what theme they were using, etc..) (I did find out that some themes screw with our phones and had to revert back to fix the problems, so please be aware of this)

1. The new radio works great (with Apex RC2 or the load I was and am now using)

2. The battery is a lot better (with Apex RC2 or the load I was and am now using)

3. I have no slider lag (with Apex RC2 or the load I was and am now using)

this is what I did (now I had a great load on my phone, very quick and totally customized by me [icon wise], somewhere in one of my posts is what I did before this)

1. official sbf 2.2 right over what I had (it is the unofficial version to Apex, same version numbers!)

2. Root with the idiot guide (worked great after 5 tries, so people know it may not work on the first)

3. Use droid x bootstrap.

3. Load the Apex RC2 ROM (I followed the steps in the fist post exactly as specified) (cleared cache, etc....)

I found that Apex was absolutely no faster in Any way shape or form than my previous load, ran absolutely the same.

I did have a problem in that my 3g was not available in Apex (it was their at first, but would not show up after) even after a few reboots, this was the only problem I had (I never had this problem with any other ROM I have ever loaded even with the droid 1, I can't believe no one else reported this yet, maybe this would be a quick fix)

My memory was worse with Apex after all my apps downloaded from the market and even after a reboot I had less. (maybe this was the launcher that comes with Apex?)

Now in saying that about my experience with Apex RC2 it is a very good rom but I did not want to configure everything all over again and knowing this was no better than what I had I restored back to my previous load with better signal and battery life.

PLEASE NO HARM TO ANYONE this is just my experience with Apex RC2, if it were better than what I had I would have stayed with it and configured it to death, but I just have way too much time into this Load (what I had before Apex) that the no improvement for ME (I stress ME) I restored back.

I will most likely try out new releases of Apex when verizon and Moto get new improved files out to us.

Thanks to all
and best of luck!!

Any insight on my issue would be great.... this is unlike anything I have ever dealt with.

i am redowning rc2 right now in hopes that might be it. since rsd lite 4.8 and sbf didnt work either from yesterdays downloads.

Looks like you forgot FORMAT system and data prior to mount system.

Even if i did a factory reset? also one of those times i did a whipe cache and data, not the same thing?

On fifth try with a newly downloaded RC2.

EDIT: instead of rebooting the 5th time... i formated system and data,
IS DATA NORMAL MOUNTED???

do not use ROM manager to load Apex Use "droid x bootstrap".

when i first get into the menu i see
mount /sysyem
unmount /data
unmount /cache
...
...
...

then i format, the menu becomes

mount /sysyem
mount /data
mount /cache
...
...
...

do i mount all 3 or just /system?

Ps. thanks to everyone for pointing out my errors sometimes reflecting on your self or going over your own work does not work to well. I am usually pretty on top of these things, just struggling here for a minute.
