Root Droid X 2.2 Overclock (Kernel Module w/Instructions)

Has anyone with a setup above 1.2ghz tried playing a flash video for awhile (like 30min). That's the test I've been using that causes my setups to fail. Right now I have a 1.1ghz that runs pretty well:

echo 56 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1100000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 300000000 20 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 600000000 32 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 3 800000000 43 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 4 1100000000 56 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 0 1100000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 1 800000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 2 600000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 3 300000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table

This has passed 30min of stress test, along with quadrant benchmarks, etc. It's been stable for two days.

Now I have a setup for 1.2 that I'm trying to get stable for flash movies.

echo 62 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1200000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 300000000 23 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 600000000 32 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 3 800000000 43 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 4 1200000000 62 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 0 1200000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 1 800000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 2 600000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 3 300000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table

This setup locks up after watching 15min of an episode of NCIS (randomly chosen) off of casttv.com. But it passed 20min of setcpu stress test. I'm curious at what the settings look like for those that are clocked higher and can run flash for awhile. I think I have a release day dx. I ordered mine right when online ordering opened up, and got my dx a day later.

whats that read? cant really see. and what overclock speed was used?

it says 2320 and I was at 1.225 GHz... I just placed it on here to see what the deal was... I ran quadrant and got that and well I cant reach that again so I am not sure how that happened but I got bragging rights for this one! lol jk!:D

Have you put it on smartphonebenchmarks.com yet?

F my DX!!! Im over it. Time for a new phone.

Figured I woud give a shot at sbf in order to get off the leaked version, hoping this would allow me to OC past 1.15... FAIL... still cant get anywhere past 1.15.. ANGRY

Time for a new phone because yours won't run beyond spec? Really?

The phone is everything it said it was, and you're mad you don't get a free boost. I'm new to OCing phones, but I've been doing it to PC gear for nearly a decade. OCing is a tedious game of chance. There are no guarantees, and no excuses to be butthurt about anything above and beyond spec.

How about trying to undervolt instead of overclock? How about realizing how cool it is that you even have the opportunity to try to OC at all?

I think he meant a new DX LOL. does anyone know of a thread for people with DX's that will not OC over 1.2 to compare build dates and such?

I ordered my X off the verizon site at 12:01am launch day, so I'm right there with you. I tried your flash test from an episode of Blue Bloods on cbs.com to be sure and max things out. It's been working for over 30 minutes now, but I did get reboots at 1.2 GHz with any lower voltage setting than those below. The lower frequencies may be able to be edged down some, but for 1.2 I cannot go lower than this.

echo 64 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1200000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 300000000 25 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps

I have right to be a little bitter. And if you read any of my previous posts I am running undervolt at 1.15, which im happy with. But being an obsessed DX user it would have been nice to have a cpu that was consistent.

And by new phone I meant new DX. Im not hating on the phone by any means just disappointed by the lack of consistency. Understand?

Yea, my launch day X still wont make it past 1.15 no matter what configuration I try. I'm settled at the "Ultra Low Voltage 1.15" setting using the Droid X/2 OC app. It gave me consistant 1560 scores on Quadrant Benchmark.

In reality I'm getting a kick out of the fact that I'm overclocked even a little, but yet still running low voltage at the same time. I'm keeping an eye on battery consumption and so far it seems to be lasting longer, so crazy overclock numbers aside, the battery savings in itself is more then worth it to me.

Even at 1ghz stock, the phone has never disapointed me in the speed department even playing high graphics games like Kwaak3 Arena. It doesnt lag at all...so to just overclock to pull a high Quadrant score ultimately is just for bragging rights. Dont get me wrong, it would be cool to be able to overclock to 1.6 or 2.0 just for the hell of it, but the fact that I cannot doesnt change how much I dig this phone.

If I had my johnson in my hand as much as I do my Droid X....I would be in jail! :D

On the 1.2ghz run you have here, I am running solid so far by bumping up the vsel from 62 to 63. Give that a shot.

hey everyone, so i've been playing around with a few values and so far

echo 67 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1300000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 300000000 22 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 700000000 34 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 3 900000000 47 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 4 1300000000 67 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 0 1300000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 1 900000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 2 700000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 3 300000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table

is stable for me.

i was wondering if its possible to set five values for the clock speed (i.e. echo 5 to the mpu_opps and echo 4 to the freq_table) so that we could have more tiers in setcpu.

I was wondering the same thing and I'm planning on testing it after I get my setup stable. I would say just try it out, I doubt it will brick your phone or anything serious.

aight. im gonna test this: (added 1ghz@60)

echo 67 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1300000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 300000000 22 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps

echo 3 700000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 4 300000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table

edit: opened setcpu and it rebooted =[

edit2: cat /proc/overclock/mpu_opps shows only the four lowest states... and then reboots

Ok, I'm not sure if setCPU will detect the 5 so if it doesn't, input this command into the terminal.
Code:
cat /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
It gives a read out of your settings.

Giving this a shot and so far so good, thanks! I had a good 1.225 setting but I had to restart my phone (my fault) and I didn't write down the settings. But I'm ok with 1.2, my phone is flying.

I don't know if anyone is having this problem, but my browser seems to be slower now that I am overclocked. I was testing my phone against my managers (he has a stock x) to see how much fast my overclocked device was, and when I went to the internet his phone was much much faster. I tried the stock browser, dolphin, and skyfire. Running and opening apps my phone was faster, but the browser now sucks. Any ideas??

oh, I cleared all cache and reset the phone and his was still faster

Well, my guess would be either he had a better signal than you did or he was connected to wifi at the same time.

Hi, I'm trying to do this but after following the instructions and running

#insmod /system/lib/modules/overclock.ko
#setscaling.sh

My phone keeps on rebooting. I'm pretty sure that's not the right behavior since settings reset after a reboot and when I go to SetCPU the highest is still only 1 ghz. My setscaling.sh settings are:

echo 66 > /proc/overclock/max_vsel
echo 1100000 > /proc/overclock/max_rate
echo 1 400000000 38 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 2 700000000 48 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 3 900000000 60 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 4 1100000000 66 > /proc/overclock/mpu_opps
echo 0 1100000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 1 900000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 2 700000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table
echo 3 400000 > /proc/overclock/freq_table

can someone help me with this?

I've tried lower vsel settings but they all rebooted my phone :-/
