Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

thanks first, fab,
favoriate ROM, hah
Apex+NexTheme now.
so fast!
and there are just small problems with me.
1. the screen will auto-rotate even if i have turn it off.
2. i cant add the Calendar widget to screen.
3. i cant set "dialer one" as the default phone-app, while i can do this on ota2.2
4. send somebody a email from this:
--launcher the dialer app.
--choose a friend with email.
--hit the email icon to run the Compose of sending a email.
--and now, the font color of Sender is white. maybe black is better?

thanks again, love this rom much.
thanks a million.

If you are running a stock launcher, you will need to disable auto rotation of under its settings AND under the main phone menu options.

which calendar widget are you trying to use? Long press>add widget should be successful as long as you're not trying to add the blurcalendar. you might have to run a script to reinstall it if so.

With launcher pro you can set dialer one as an icon either in the tray or on the home screen and even use a custom icon. as far as incoming calls go, I wasn't aware that you could change the default app to anything other than stock, but thats probably my ignorance on that issue.

I got no clue on the email either as I use gmail exclusively

1.just by pressing the menu key
2. I will have to see if Fab can come up with something on this, I'm thinking he removed that widget as this was supposed to be a blurless rom so most of the blur widgets are gone.
3. I highly recommend you try both of them.

1. i turn off the auto rotate by steps below but it not work.
--setting>display>auto-rotate screen romove the choose

do you mean this?

yeah that what I was talking about. The tranquility launcher that comes with this rom is its own seperate apk. You can achieve the same look with launcerpro however, and I know for sure you can turn the rotation off with it because I have mine turned off. It gets very annoying.

Its just my personal preference, but if you have root explorer or titanium backup install, you can delete or rename the stock launcher that came with the rom. It just seems to make things run faster if you don't have mulitple launchers.

Opening and running as many apps as I can at lightening speeds!!!!!!!! :p

Yeah ok but it actually takes you longer to open the app since you killed it from memory to start with and this is not a windows box." Free memory is wasted memory on an Android phone." <-- is is a quote from Google

I just don't get why with all the evidence and articles about this that people still insist on doing it. You a bad bad boy:D

Oh well to each his own. If it makes you feel better have at it but if your ever bored pull out a stop watch and see if it actually does anything.

Back to the SF area for me.

Holy delayed reaction batman!!!! I wasn't talking about kill apps I was talking about using autokiller. It keeps what's most important running :p

even better, use the built in launcher -rm script

I use auto-killer also. Once my available memory is below about 80 MB things start to slow down and get a little laggy so I have auto-killer set for 90MB and things remain constantly fast because of it. Without auto-killer I can tell when the memory is down to around 80 MB without even looking at it, just by how it is performing.

The system would kill something if it needed the memory. Just because you free memory it doesn't mean the OS is going to suddenly start using it. If you really get a measurable difference its most likely because you killed a bad app not that you have more memory.

It's the same in every thread or story about app killers. Even though they are tell us free memory is wasted memory and that killing stuff is bad there is always some one that says its all BS because they're phone starts working better once they kill task. Its not the freeing of memory its becasue they have a bad app and instead of finding it and getting rid of it they kill all kinds of stuff in order to kill one bad app.

Now I know this isn't an app killer per say but your goal is the same, killing apps to free up memory instead of figuring out what the problem really is.

Call me silly but I believe the makers of the OS which knows far more than us and knows how the insides of the phones work. And when they tell us this is not a windows phone and doesn't use memory like a windows pc and that freeing memory doesn't gain you anything and in fact can hurt I tend to believe them.

But like I said to each his own.

PS I have no auto killer or app killer and I only have 50 megs free (which seems to be the system default) and both my phones are very fast. Well after I ditch those crappy launcher and skins that is. :D

I went a few months without using auto-killer but would monitor free memory and anytime I got to around 70-80 MB of free memory things would start to slow down a little. I eventually started just killing a few apps that I wasn't using at the time (to get the free memory back up to around 90MB) but were taking up memory and things would instantly speed back up afterward. I've even tried killing different apps at different times to see if it was one app causing the "problem" but it has always been the same way. It definitely isn't hurting anything and since it keeps my X running consistently the same I'll keep using it. I know free memory is wasted memory but my phone likes the little extra free memory.

So ever since I rooted I've had issues with email showing up. Initially it was Gmail and my IMAP office email - Gmail required a refresh and office was just 24+ hours behind. Since intsalling ApeX my office email is back to normal. However, Gmail STILL does not autosync. I still have to force a refresh to get new messages. Any ideas?

I urge you piiman. Just give it a shot. I understand you reservation on it. I really do. We have very similar views on the subject of task killing. This is NOT the same thing believe me.

go to accounts and select you gmail account. Once you're there make sure you have the box checked that says sync gmail

ApeX + REVOlution Theme + NEXtheme Font + Round Battery Icon + LP+ = perfect for me! :)

EDIT: Stupid drocap permission SU thing! How can I make drocap not do that?
EDIT2: Got one!
