Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Then what's causing the slow down? What actually slows down? Can you actually measure the difference? Why does your phone slow down at 70 when mine runs fine with only 50m or less? And more importantly what does the system do when you free up that memory? (that's a trick questions:D)

There isn't a single shred of evidence or documentation that confirms that freeing memory, before it's needed, does anything good for your phones performance. If there is please point me to it.

When and if the system needs the memory from those " idle, unused, unimportant apps" It will free them/it itself. Why do you think it needs help doing it?

Listen if it makes you feel good then go for it ( I don't want to argue with you Air I like you xxoo :D) but to me these things are a unneeded apps that take up memory and battery power for nothing.

I have installed it though and will let you know what I think in a day or two.

Fine, I want my ring back, I'll find someone else to argue with...:p

Don't worry about it, it's more of a "discussion" than an argument. I'm not saying it increases my overall performance but it does help my X when the memory hits a certain point. You may not see anything at all since your X seems to be killing things soon enough. Let us know if you do notice anything though.

Leaving this ROM for now as I am having random reboots through out the day, yesterday was the first time I installed the ROM and was pleased on all other accounts

Did you start with a clean, rooted 2.2 base or did you install it over something else?

I do not have a bad app, when my available memory gets down to around 70MB my phone starts to slow down so I have AutoKiller set to kick in at around 80MB rather than the 50MB range where the system would start killing the same idle, unused, unimportant apps.

Mine does the same, under 90 mb free it lags a little, under 70 mb it lags a lot and under 50 mb it it unusable. This happens even when the phone is stock with no apps installed so its not because of the bad app bs the anti autokillers talk about

removed the overclock this morning after pulling the phone from the charger, and I've yet to have a random reboot like I was getting yesterday. after 9 hours of pretty constant use between phone calls, ~75 texts, some browsing, and streaming pandora for ~3 hours, the battery was only down to 50%.

edit: just got one of the soft reboots. doh. may need to try a different ROM since it seems to be a semi-decently common issue with this one :[

I've got a little issue, not sure if this is an ApeX thing or something else I've done but...

My "phone" contacts are not showing up in "all" contacts. Meaning, when I hit dialer and go to contacts, I have 111 people in there with phone #s that I've always had on my phone and previous phones...originally backed up with VZW backup assistant. When I hit the contact app (not from the dialer), I get all my people from Hotmail and Gmail, but anyone I don't have an email address for (only a phone #) is not showing up. It's making linking them and syncmypix fail. When I click the drop down box for groups, I get "Create, All, Favorites, Friends, Google, and nativeExchange (hotmail)", no option for phone or dialer. After installing ApeX, I put backup assistant back on my phone only long enough sync my 111 phone contacts up then I removed it. Previously, I didn't sync my phone contacts with gmail/google and I'm not sure it's doing it now.

Help??? How can I get all this to merge/sync?

Quick run down of what I where I came from:

Was running FlyX 1.0 from a leaked 2.2 I believe, but not the leaked OTA if I remember right. I used the recently found SBF to flash to the Official 2.2. Immediately rooted and then flashed to this ROM doing the wipe of data and cache.

After the original post I went to RubiX from the ROM manager also wiping. After the install I went to apply some themes from ROM manager and got stuck in boot loop. I only had FlyX 1.0 on my SD card so I flashed back to that again out of necessity last night and have already had a reboot again since.

this was the issue i was having earlier. you have to export your contacts from backup assistant and then import them to your gmail account. sync contacts on the phone and it should be good. little busy right now but i'll update this post with the link that showed me how to do it in a few.

Thanks mezdup, figured it out from your post before the edit, but thanks for the link...I'm sure that's going to help out some peeps. I added a step and merged duplicates while logged into gmail on my PC, got rid of the duplicates on the phone. :D
Thanks again.

This should be Android 101! This is exactly how I merged all my contacts, only I didn't have a handy dandy step by step. I just had to figure it out on my own :(

Looks pretty old, so I doubt it was built using 2.3.15. Doesn't mean it wouldn't work though, just be sure to make a backup before trying it.

Also, if it has Gmail, or other market apps included, they must be removed first.

Thanks that's a bummer. Guess I'll wait for someone else to do up a blackbar mod. ;)

Seems like the most excellent mod for this phone. Very fast and smooth.

The only bug I've noticed (outside of hotfix1) is the Calendar widget. When I try to place a Calendar widget on a homescreen it doesn't do anything when I click "done" after selecting which calendars to include.
