8pen Keyboard - Revolution or Fail?

i gave it a shot. it seems like it has potential but i dont have the time/patience to learn it at this point. it could be a new great way to type only needing one finger no matter how fat or skinny it is instead of punching wrong keys all the time like i currently do but after using it for a while i still take time just trying to find my next letter without lifting my finger up.

wow, sorry for the long run-on sentence haha

Well, as many of you know about me, I pirate first, then buy later.

Just from limited use so far, Im actually starting to pick it up!

Once you get where the keys are down, and the general flow of how it works, its surprisingly usable.

Dont get me wrong, it still feels very weird, but by George, Im getting it!

Epic Fail! If i wanted to count out to know which letter I was selecting I'd go back to texting on my dial pad....

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

You owe me a new Evo!! I spewed all my soda on my Evo reading this post!!! :D:D

This sounds like a goal to set. See how many people I can get to destroy their own evos. And I owe it all to 8pen. Thank you 8pen, you have changed my life!

I feel like pirate-as-trial is a pretty common practice.

I agree with the comments made, and while I think people should keep an open mind at trying new ideas, it makes it hard to put this kind of a time investment into something that could take awhile to master in a format that isn't even standardized. The one thing the qwerty keyboard had was standardization. The reason swype is so popular is because it builds on the investment in time people have made through memorizing the qwerty symbol arrangement. That is not something to be thrown out lightly. Someone brought in a laptop to a helpdesk I worked at long ago and the keyboard was in another arrangement for another language. If you want to feel helpless, try replicating this experience :) This is why GUI's have changed our means of communicating so drastically.

Honestly while watching that video I was waiting to see someone who had mastered using their symbol arrangement to do long sentences and it just didn't exist in the video. That made it difficult to relate to or believe that it actually can be faster that say Swype which does show people using Swype in their videos.

Tried it for about 30 min and found two problems, my fingers are too big and cover up the letters, and the letters are too small and keep getting lost under my fingers.

Many have said this but I will say it again.....I AM GOOD ON 8PEN, I have mastered Swype and I couldn't imagine learning ANOTHER keyboard....But I am optimistic as well if they offer a trial I would give it a whirl just to say I tried it.

I'd love to see a video of someone good using 8pen. In that sense, I'd like to see a video of 8pen beating Swype in a speed test. :)

I can't believe that this IME would produce results that would rival some of the others that are out there. I just tried it, and I'm surprised I didn't just chuck my phone across the room. (But then, no point in blaming the phone for 8pen's issues.)

I've used pretty much all of the replacement keyboards that are out there. I do like Ultra (once I sized it to be smaller--it was taking up WAY too much screen real estate), and Swype is good too. I guess there are people out there who will like this.

Even when I picked up the first PDA I owned (a Palm), it at least used Graffiti, which was intuitive. 8pen isn't at all intuitive to me, however.

more worthless than tits awn a boar hawg! or the metric system

I have to assume your joking. Not to get off topic here, but if we would just switch to the metric system EVERYTHING would be so much easier. But us Americans are too proud and dumb to admit that our system is totally ******ed.
