Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

Unfortunately I need push email for moxier... part of what I do for my company means I need to know immediately if we have any fires that need addressing. If I could schedule it to switch from one to the other depending on time of day MAYBE I'd be safe with that, but I doubt that's the kind of feature that would be added anytime soon if ever.
You CAN set Moxier to push during certain days and hours and poll the rest of the time. From the home screen (i.e., NOT from within the application) go to menu, then settings, then exchange activesync. Select "Profile." Then select Custom Mode. You will then be able to set the days and hours you want to have push active.

right now there is a custom polling. u set direct push for daytime use and polling outside daytime hours. or u could set up 2 push times (say 12am - 8am) then (5pm - 11:59pm) and do polling in the middle. that'd probably help if u needed it.

How many people with battery issues are using Handcent Vs how many people without battery issues are using Handcent? I have recently been researching the battery issue in android and a lot of people think the battery drain might be caused by Handcent... Just looking for some more data..

battery issue here. handcent, no idea what it is?

Handcent is a SMS replacement application to replace the standard SMS that comes with android

ah.. is it good? i like the sprint one that puts the pix messages inline with the texts, and how u just can start typing the name and it finds it from addresses but what drives me nuts is when u send a mass text message, it creates its own thread for that group of people and doesn't put your message in each persons thread.

anyways... i don't use it and am seeing battery issues for sure.

So is anyone who is using OpenHome getting reasonably good battery life? I have my suspicions about it... I keep stripping things off my phone and it's not getting any better, OpenHome and my games (which should only be running when I'm playing them, right?) are about all that's left. I'm going to do a factory reset as well... but just wondering about the OH thing.

I get great battery life with openhome pretty much that same as without it

Dude, you say you have a runtime of 74% in your previous post??? This is NOT normal and IS the reason for your drain...now you gotta figure out what is keeping your phone awake. I do not think it is Handcent since I use it and don't have the issue and I would say most people on here use it. Like I have read numerous times and also on this thread, it appears "Battery Left" app is keeping people's phone awake. Have you got rid of it yet? That may be your battery hog.

My wife's Moment was doing ok on battery after I let it drain a couple of times and charged using power first then usb to finish, but the last few days after about 2 weeks of good battery life, she is getting terrible coverage. It was at 15% in less than 3 hours of light to no use. I have a battery life widget on her phone, but don't think that is the issue. Sprint needs to put out a update for this phone fast. This battery BS is getting old and you know they have got to know about it.

My battery life is like a rollercoaster. Just when I think I get a decent day and half use out of the phone it goes and drains in a period of 3 or 4 hours of fairly light use. It's so unpredictable. Today it really pissed me off because I was outdoors and it dropped below 15% which as you all know causes the backlight to reduce drastically. I couldn't see anything on the screen but I know I had another few hours of battery left. They really have to send out some sort of patch; at least some way to override the auto dimming feature. How hard can it be?

whats everyone seeing for available memory if you check with something like task killer what are you seeing running and how much avail memory do you have, i try to keep most of the programs from starting up except for all the google stuff since if you close a couple of those you lose the market and all the google apps

it seems though a lot of times when i check im down at about 26mb of avail memory anyone getting better, would close/preventing more from starting help speed/life

Before anyone tells me to search i have searched and have not found anything! Im reading through posts and seeing how some people are going 2 days on a single charge with moderate use? How is that possible? Ill charge my phone over night, take it off around 7 15am and by 8 itll drop to 80 percent, ill use it during the day for few calls, hundred or so texts, maybe some internet and by 4 30ish its dead? A few hundred texts in 8 hours? That's a lot...

But amongst the other things that are suggested in this thread (like topping off your battery by charging it with USB after it reports fully charged with wall charger, and so on), could you try using Handcent SMS instead of the built in messaging service. I have a hunch that the internal messaging service is slurping up battery as I can feel my phone get hot after a few minutes of opening the messaging app (and even closing it). Just something to try. I know that some of the hero people had a problem with their messaging app, and I don't think anyone concluded that the Moment had this problem... but I think its worth a look.

Ever since I did the factory reset I have had very decent battery life 25-30 hours per full charge. (see my previous posts) I have not reinstalled panda home or any task killer (I've found I don't need the task killer). I don't know what the factory reset did but for those of you who find you are still getting crappy battery life after a few full discharges (i was getting 4-5 TOPS and that's if I hardly used the phone at all) you maybe want to try the factory reset. I am comfortable leaving the house without carrying my charger with me now. :-)

How did you do the factory reset. I would like to give that a try and see if it helps with my battery life. Thanks.

1. Settings-->sd card & storage---> factory data reset 2. I don't know, I wasn't willing to take that chance. I removed the SD card before I did the reset 3. All my contacts are synced with google so once you sign into your gmail account, it should pull back all your google contacts. I seemed to have lost all my texts messages. (Which is strange, aren't they stored on the sd card?) to Agent0014...I'm not as technically proficient as others here so as to why the reset works...i don't know. It could have also been some of the apps that I had on the phone. I'm doing the trial by fire method. I reloaded Documents to go and the genesis emulator. At midnight battery was still at 50%. After about 30 minutes of ghouls & ghosts and about 10-15 minutes of you tube, the meter dropped to 15%. Didn't put it on the charger. When I woke up this morning it was still at 15%. Didn't charge, played ghouls & ghosts on my commute (about 20 minutes). I've done some internet browsing, sent a few texts and one phone call ( about 5 mintues). It's 11:20 am in NYC right now and battery is still at 15 %. So that's about 28-29 hours since I took it off the charger, almost 12 of those hours the battery is at 15%. I actually want to see how far it will go. After it discharges I'll recharge and reinstall screebl lite and handcent and see if any of those have any effect on battery life. The next cycle I'll reinstall slacker radio and pandora. I never used either when the phone wasn't attatched to the charger so i don't think they were responsible for the crazy battery life i was getting. After that I'll try panda home (similar to open home). Any one here has panda home or open home installed and getting decent battery life? Also I immediately deleted the weather, nfl, and sprint television widgets once rebooting.

Based on some of the whining and complaining here, you'd think the Moment is completely unusable due to the battery issue.

My Samsung Moment's battery meter is not completely accruate, but I am able to go 2-3 days without charging, on moderate usage.

However, if that's not good enough, there are now OEM and generic Moment batteries available on eBay and other sources. Always good idea to have a spare battery any how for emergencies.

This phone rocks. I have had a few instances of the phone locking up / freezing, but nothing that is more than my Blackberries and my previous Palm devices. If you have used smart phones before, you know what to expect. Seems like most of the complaints are from folks who have never used smart phones before.

I am finally going to comment on this "moderate" usage.. I guess if moderate usages can get you days off the battery without a chance.. i must use "Abusive" usage.. cause mine will be dead in 5 hours flat with how much i use the phone for...

What do you consider "moderate" usage? I get 12 hours out of my phone if I'm lucky. I send some texts, browse the web a bit, and mess around on it a bit with apps and such.

My usage is probably.. 6 phone calls within 4 hours... 20 or so texts sent... browse the web for a little.. Oh and having meebo constantly on in the background during the day...
the meebo might cause a little battery drain (as in a lot of it)

Hey folks, I'm going to merge this thread into the Battery quirk thread, unless there is an opinon against that.

*edit* Threads merged.

You really seem to be assuming that your experience is average or normal for this phone... do you have any significant data to back up such an assumption? Just because your battery is working incredibly well doesn't mean everyone else's is. Mine is really sucking , can't even hit ten hours before the phone starts resetting from low battery... and I'd say my usage is light to normal. Of course I'm not assuming that my experience is average either, in fact I'm hoping that I'm at the opposite end of the curve from you and that an equipment replacement (battery or phone itself) will make my battery life at least a little more bearable.

BTW agent0014, I still don't understand whats causing a reset once the battery is low...

Personally I'd try and get a new one, I know you've had to do this before (right?) but mine doesn't do that, and that would be annoying to the point of frustration.
