Update coming, but not 2.2

Thanks for the shot of optimism...but the realist in me is now searching for a 3rd party app that will allow me to sync both calendars...

Great forum here, just found it. I was disappointed in the quality of the others, but this one has restored my confidence.

yeah af definitely has a nice community feel to it :)

i really cant believe they d push out another ota not 2.2..i mean i believe just think its ridiculous

and it gives a look into VZW testing time lines. Which shows us there is no way we will have 2.2before year end and most likely not for some time after. :-( That and the fact we are getting this OTA update instead of rolling it into the 2.2 updates says to me 2.2 is a long ways off.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some ginger bread roll outs before we get 2.2

it wouldnt surprise me in the n1 gets gingerbread before we get 2.2...i think we will have it before the first phones launch with it however.

As long as this get done I can wait

2) Added updated versions of the preloaded applications VOD, City ID, VZ Navigator and Amazon Kindle

Do you think they will make them un installable?

why would you ever want to get rid of VZ Navigator !?!?!?!?!

how will you know where you are going?!?!?!?!?!

OK I didn't see that on the list, that one I'll keep. On a side note I picked up CoPilot for 4.99 as a backup GPS what stores the maps on my sd. The best 4.99 app on the market if you ask me

How can you be so sure?

It's a very, very low probability that the bloatware will be uninstallable because that's one of the revenue sources for them: having it there right in front of us each time we open the app drawer, just like a banner ad, only instead it's an icon sitting there waiting to be clicked rather than a banner.

yet another reason to............root..............although if you do so..........please dont mention the less than 2 click method that starts with a z........or i will start to cry :(

I think I'll make a 1 1/2 click root program! You click the button once, then wave the mouse around - the more the cursor moves, the more likely the root will work!

(Don't hurt me, nitsuj!)

Sounds like no 2.2 until next year based on this statement "...update in DJ05 is also expected to prepare the device for its promised upgrade to Android 2.2 next year."

It's more like VZW had a list of fixes in progress before Samsung released 2.2. There's nothing specifically required for Froyo.

Who knows, perhaps they'll pull back the DJ05 and incorporate the fixes into the 2.2 firmware. Depends on how far they are on integrating 2.2.

I knew that:)
But when I was in the VZW store asking about selling my X they told me "sure it's your phone" um-mm so why can't i un install their apps off my own phone then? Doesn't seem right they can force their crapware on MY phone.
Oh wait I have uninstalled it:rolleyes:;)

True. I have waited patiently for the OTA to 2.2 before getting too crazy with the phone. I have trolled the forums since launch, rooted and debloated, now it may be time to start flashing kernels and ROMs. We are the 1%-ers, an insignificant faction of users that even care about 2.2, gingerbread etc. My wife is the typical user; her SF runs fine. She has no idea or concern about the version, scheduled OTA's etc.

I am sure as soon as I get CWM installed, the OTA will appear :p. It's like when you go to the restroom at a restaurant and return to find the entree has been served (maybe a bad analogy, best I can do right now).

im just gonna go with my usual:

if youre gonna root/mod theres not point in waiting for 2.2, as we ll get whatever the ota is from xda/irc in odin or update.zip format within hours of the ota starting (or maybe before ;)) and frankly id say thats safer than an ota that may/may not brick your phone.

I know, you keep telling me that. So why am I waiting?? That's it, CWM installing now (or, after lunch).... Hopefully I won't need too much hand-holding :D
