Lg lied about update

That's the problem, LG is not saying anything. I saw the articles where writers talked to LG reps and announced the Ally was getting 2.2. This made a lot of people feel better about their purchase and the company (LG) that made the product. Then time lapsed.
Rumours started circulating for and against and still the company made no official statement. This started giving me a bad taste about Android. Even in the Windows world they gave you a list of specs required to run an operating system. Why would they not make any official statement?
I'll tell you why. They decided it wouldn't be beneficial to work on an operating system upgrade that wasn't worth it because of the difficulty involved. It would be better if the rumours kept going long enough for them to sell out the ally. After new products with 2.2 come out, then announce the Ally is not getting an upgrade. By then enough people would be locked in their contracts and Verizon wouldn't lose. If say everyone within their 30 day window returned them, then they would have a problem. But that's not going to happen. Never been screwed before? Now you have.

Since the Shine Plus is the Canadian version of the Ally, it's been announed by Telus that it'll be getting 2.2 so I don't see why the Ally won't.

That's exactly what I'm thinking...along with the fact that the Vortex doesn't look all that much more impressive on paper than the Ally.

If Ally will receive 2.2, I will keep it until next every two year upgrade. But if it's confirmed to not receive it, then I will probably switch to something better with 2.2.

As for the Vortex, I found some media sites saying that it's screen is QVGA while majority of medias are saying it's HVGA. I don't know why there are conflicting reports on it. We will soon know as it's coming soon to Verizon in a matter of a few days. Its siblings Optimus S, T seem to be well received by users on their forums. Most guys are saying it's fast, smooth thanks to 512Mb or RAM and android 2.2. Optimus phones have the same MSM7627 processor as Ally. So I don't think this CPU is not capable of running 2.2 as some folks said. Vortex probably has the same processor as Optimus though Johnny's source claimed it's an OMAP a while ago.

Yep, it's hard to believe any sources until they have a production unit in their hands. There were widespread claims of the Ally having a 1Ghz Snapdragon up until it's release too, so it's mostly guessing IMO.

This is the part most of you guys aren't getting. The Ally works on a different architecture than the Optimus. To top that off, the CPU isn't the thing holding us back from Froyo, its the available internal memory.

WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE!

OK. Can you elaborate more on the different architecture in Optimus? How is it different other than having more RAM memory? Droid 1 also has 256Mb of RAM but got 2.2.

Couldn't Verizon get in trouble for having their reps saying the ally would get 2.2? I wonder how long it will be tell you cant even get replacement Allys... i would hate to have my phone drop in the water... hehe

I certainly hope you aren't referring to /data partition.

We will have to just give it up and accept the fact that LG is not a g ood company to do business with. Accept the Ally for what it is and make the most of it. I will not recommend this company to anyone I know and I will not buy any LG product again. But Verizon will hate me because if the leat little thing goes wrong I will demand they replace it.

Still clueless, still grasping at straws, and still wrong.

Good grief! Will you get over yourself already? The Ally is a great little phone for what it is - an entry level Android phone. Lots of us are perfectly happy with our purchase for now, especially when customized with Raptor or Velocity. Do you really think your personal recommendation or lack thereof is going to bring LG to its knees? Or Verizon for that matter? It's like buying a Chevy Aveo and then whining that it won't perform like a Corvette! Go buy an Apple iPhone from ATT and see how great your coverage area and performance is then. Maybe if you whine enough, they'll upgrade you to an iPad.

<grumbles> Some people's kids!

He's referring to the amount of RAM

Droid 1 has 256 as well BUT as a separate graphic processor so the LG Ally has to share the 256 between system, graphics, and everything else. Shine Plus has 512 and upgraded hardware from the ally.

OK. Now I get it. Too bad, Ally is so limited in memory, processing power.

BTW, now it's official according to Verizon. The new Vortex has HVGA screen, MSM7627 processor and most importantly android 2.2. I will check it out at store soon.

Transcript excerpt from LG chat support:

11:17 AM Jermel: At the moment there is no information as of when it will be out.
11:17 AM Jermel: But it is coming out soon.
11:17 AM Kenenth Cole: I can do that.
11:17 AM Kenenth Cole: It is going to be updated?
11:17 AM Jermel: Since they have released the new phones with the 2.2 verion on those phones already.
11:17 AM Jermel: Yes they have to finish creating the update for the phone do.
11:18 AM Kenenth Cole: Oh, okay. But, no ETA?
11:18 AM Jermel: Unfortunately not.
11:18 AM Jermel: I am sorry about that.
11:18 AM Jermel: I have sent numerous request
11:18 AM Jermel: To get a date but nothing as of yet.

Sounds promising, and not entirely the "company line" they have been dishing out. Just thought I'd put this out there.
