Sorry I havent been able to keep up on all this, but whats new / fixed in 2.2.1?
My 2.2 is running pretty damn good with no real error I havent introduced (OC to 1.35 is Mostly stable ;)

nobody really knows yet. i do know it runs really well, though.

i am running 2.3.320 with TranQ 3.5, and i'm REALLY happy with it.

always good to avoid a frown and contain your clown....:)

Well, at least I was trying to be discreet about it! ;)

My feelings, as for the post topic that is, is that if you are new you may want to stay away for a little longer. New guys make careless mistakes like formatting their system and then exited bootstrap without flashing the new system. I have seen at least a dozen posts like that since the release.

Exactly. +1

I don't post very much but I miss the gold ol' days when Steven just got his DX, and didn't know anything about it, yet had 10,000+ more posts than me... I felt smart. Now, I am just a plain old droid-modder

I'm a quick learner? ;) Actually, I've had some pretty awesome teachers. :)

So I loaded TranQ 3.5, had an issue with my phone dialer FC'ing everytime I made a call. To fix this problem it took:
wiping cache....then davlik cache...then formatted system...then mounted system...then installed the leak...boot looped....had to factory reset...then load 3.5 again. This is why Steven58 does not recommend upgrading yet if you really are not up to speed on these types of actions. Its good advice, lots of bricks on Traq 3.5 because people did not read the directions and follow them!!!!!!! Now they have to either get the sys sbf or wait for the full.

You are right, however, I refuse to engage in any dangerous behavior or activity without the appropriate protection. Comprende? I advise you to wait, too, brother. It should only be a matter of days before sbf is available, imo.

I hear you man, but I sure am tempted!

I still think I will be loading up ApeX 1.1. If not, may wait for Fission 2.2!

C'mon you old farts. We know you're responsible, mature adults who rely on your phones for important professional and personal communication and don't want to risk rendering them inoperable just to tinker with the latest and greatest firmware release.

But that's no reason to discourage us risk takers from having a little fun now, is it? I flashed 2.2.1 with no problem and am eagerly awaiting TranQ 3.5. And if I brick my X I'll fire up my old Droid until the SBF is released.

After all, this is the "All Things Root" forum. We're hackers, aren't we?

If I had another phone to fall back on I wouldn't be quite as "cautious".

You should be tempted.

2.2.1 + TranQ 3.5 + overclock =:cool:est X ever!

My install was super smooth. I SBFed before beginning so I started clean. As long as you're not flashing over a hodgepodge of different ROMs and you wipe your data I'd say there's not much risk at all.

I bet a lot of those having trouble with this haven't SBFed in a while.

Personally I cannot afford to brick a $600 dollar device and I am sure i'm not the only one. Especially a month before Christmas. Even if you have insurance, that $89 deductible is just taking away from the smile on your children's faces on Christmas morning.

You guys need to realize this is not a game and there is nothing funny about it. There are many, many people posting at MDW who have followed the instructions to a T and bricked anyways. It may be in relation to incompatible DATA. It may be in relation to flashing from a Vanilla ROM. It may be in relation to a corrupt recovery partition before the flash. Or it may be in relation to newer and/or CPO devices. There are too many variables to identify a specific culprit yet.

I 100% agree with Steven58's healthy advice and as soon as our safety net is in place I will be flashing this. In the mean time we need to be very cautious and help protect our fellow members from disaster. Newbs should be avoiding this for the time being and our veteran flashers should be very careful and go into this knowing the pitfalls.

I know that I am new to the DX. I have been flashing ROMs on the original Droid since last December. If someone with the reputation of Steven says hold off, that is good enough for me. I have a phone to fall back on, but why chance it? There will be a solution soon (there always is).

Wow. You just made my day! Thank you. :)
(Actually, this message is coming from me and someone else, a mod, who shall remain nameless, but believe me, he/she is also looking out for your backs and cares about you guys a great deal too. :))

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! :)

That is why I stay at this forum, there are people here that actually care how the android system progresses. And if the users continue to get burned, then they will go to another platform. I learned a long time ago to listen when the experienced users have something to say.

So you are very welcome!

I made a promise to myself to only hack if I know there is a way out and the SBF is that way out. And I might want to eventually sell my phone so I want the next owner to have a 100% stock phone to receive OTA upgrades. I will only upgrade if it's the official OTA and I will only use custom roms if there is an SBF for the OTA. Rules that I must stick to and follow.

I'm running into a lot of bricked folks both here and on other forums because they flew without sbf. Please continue to be careful especially as there are new roms coming out on this updated that has no full sbf, as yet.

Thanks to Fab for putting a clear warning on his Apex 1.2, a Rom I greatly look forward to installing when the full sbf makes its debut.

Cheers!

some of the devs (except fab, of course) are not getting the word out that the new rom has greater risks, so I thought I would bump this.
