It's just like the little U.S. flags that line the sidewalks during 4th of July parades. Each one usually has a little sticker on it that says "Made in China". That drives me crazy!

You know..

The irony is, and how true or not it is, I can't really say..

But, on the Colbert Report a while back, I watched (well listened to) a discussion on how it is beginning to cost way to mcuh money to pay china to develop our plastic crap.
 
It gets worrying though now that Chinas products are bettering the US's (seriously)

I read this awhile back. It makes one think...

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 am.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking,

he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA),

designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE)

and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA)

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA)

he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA)

he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS (from Saudi Arabia)

and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day

checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia),

Joe decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL)

poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE)

and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA),

and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in AMERICA.

So we all know how America and pretty much the rest of the world now has most of it's products made in China.

What really gets me, is now China has really been adopting American customs and culture. This really hit home for me last week, when the peeps at my school asked me to give a talk on how I celebrated Thanksgiving. Which was OK until I politely told them that the British do not do Thanksgiving, and I don't know any more about this subject than what they do.

I see many products and events been sponsored by the NBA. Basketball is huge here. Last year both the NFL and MLB where doing major promotions in Beijing. Although I was quite refreshing to see cricket rather than baseball been played at the 16th World Asian Games in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
 
What I find sad is more and more so called American cars are being made in Canada and Mexico. While at the same time Toyota, Honda, and hundai are being made in the USA.

I hate arguing with people over cars..

I know so many people who absolutely refuse to buy toyota or nissan.. or any other of a number of great cars.

Why? they are "Foreign" they don't care that the cars aren't actually made in America :/

The logic they use to justify it is astounding.. I didn't even really try to keep up with it because, the more questions I asked the less sense it made x.x

Not trying to start a "domestic vs import" war here.. but, I do think that you should be open minded when buying any particular product.

I own a 03 Dodge Dakota qc 4x4 and a 00 Honda accord coupe. So I think I have an open mind about cars. But I do see your point and see it first hand. Heck most Ford F150 owners trucks are made in Mexico but they are to stupid to read the door jam that says made in Mexico. But they will swear its American made just because the blue oval says Ford lol.

So the best American car manafacturer makes its cars in Mexico :confused:
Anyway I dont get how Ford got into trouble; Unlike GM and Chrysler they make good efficient well-built cars


Still tho: the worst cars are British! :p

You don't read any stickers. Look at the VIN. If it starts with a 1 or 4, it was built in the United States.

Also, you don't have your facts straight. Ford is the only truck builder out of the big3 that has all of their production in the United States. Ford F-150's are built in Dearborn, MI and Kansas City, MO. The Super Duty is made in Louisville KY, and the Ranger is made in Twin Cities, MN. No F-150 has ever been built in Mexico for sale in the United States. In fact, they are built in the United States for export into Mexico.

Chrysler and GM both build in Mexico.

Please do some research and stop spewing lies.

Try that research thing yourself...They've been being built outside the US since before they were even called F-150 and still continue to be!

I thought we were talking about buying trucks here in the united States.

Venezuelan built trucks are not for sale in the United States. The Mexican plant was gutted and retooled for Fiesta production. The Canadian plant was closed around 2003.

I repeat. With the exception of the Canadian built trucks, all of the trucks sold in the United States have always been built in the United States. The Canadian plant is closed so all trucks currently being sold in Canada and the United States are built in the United States. The Mexican truck was never for sale here, not to mention that the current truck is now being exported to Mexico.

Tell you what, you give me a VIN number of any new F-series that is on a dealers lot right now at any Ford dealer in the United States and Canada that was not built in the U.S., and I will PayPal $1,000 into any account you give me.

I work for Ford. I build these trucks. I know what I am talking about.
 
There's nothing wrong with buying foreign cars, especially considering that exotics come from foreign countries. :) anyone who refuses to buy foreign severely limit themselves of choices, especially when it comes to luxury cars. Other than perhaps Cadillac, I wouldn't purchase from any other American brand.

In case you are serious, I'll give you a great example of HOW Ford got into trouble.

All of the Big 3 US automakers had several problems.

The average MPG of a vehicle sold had to be below a certain MPG that the government set. That means for every so many trucks that they sold, they had to sell so many small cars.

To sell that many cars, the sale price had to be below a certain point.

This made cars unprofitable, and they couldn't renegotiate their labor costs. Those kept going higher, even though the vehicles themselves were unprofitable.

As labor prices kept climbing, the light vehicles became more and more unprofitable.

All of the profit for the big 3 US automakers was coming from truck sales.

During the fuel crisis (granted a small crisis) after Katrina, Truck sales plummeted. Leaving the only vehicles ford was selling regularly being the light cars (which as you will recall were extremely unprofitable).

The more each of the Big 3 sold, the further in the red they went.

Truck sales still haven't recovered.

The financial crisis, AND GM and Chrysler going into bankruptcy allowed each automaker to renegotiate their labor terms with the Unions.

This (among other things) allowed the manufacturers to start earning a profit on light cars.

Basically, they put ALL of their eggs in one basket, and eventually that basket burst.
