Swype BETA for Android gets an update

hello all,
please see the link above re: a swype android update, but am not sure if or how it applies to us droid x folks. the swype version number (the one that came preinstalled) on my droid x is 1.64.40.9380, and the new version apparently is 2.15.56.14870. when i tried to goto the link on my droid x, it said i didnt have a "beta swype" login, and therefore could not update. anyone know about this issue?

questions:
1. is it value-added to get the update? my swype works pretty great already.
2. is the version that came with our droid x a trial version that will expire? if so, when?
3. how do you we droid x folks update to the newest version?

thanks in advance.

Swype opened up to a beta group in the days before the DX, this update only apples to those who got into that group. It's for those that don't have Swype factory installed on their phones.

Pretty much, we have to have ours updated whenever we get an OS update pushed. And Sadly after reading the next update on the news feed here, Swype update doesn't look like it's included. :(

Thanks for the link, I just updated my version of Swype.

Airmaxx23, I had heard somewhere else that upgrading the beta over the stock one on the X won't work.

Is that what you just did and it worked?

Did you do anything special at all?

I just clicked the link, downloaded the installer, signed in and then downloaded the update.

And you have a Droid X? Rooted?

Does it revert to the grey keys again then?

I'm in the swype beta group, so I could do this, but I don't want to do anything that might cause problems.

I just checked my Swype version and it apparently did not update.

And you're lucky it didn't. Mine updated and now Swype force closes continuously. Unfortunately, although I backed up the stock Swype app with TiBu before updating I can't restore it. So no Swype for me until I can find the Swype installer for the new 2.2.1 leak.

I was beta tester when I had the dinc. I got an email, today, inviting me to upgrade my beta and was wondering if it would work. I won't bother, now. My wife and daughter have the dinc. I wonder if I should start them on it, using my beta.

I tried that (before reading this thread) and i now only get force closes, and now I am unable to change my phone again in the sywpe beta.

Found a solution for those of us who made the mistake of trying to install the beta and screwed up our stock Swype.

Download one of the themed Swype installers here at XDA. You'll have to uninstall the beta first.

I chose the black and white theme. It nicely complements TranQ 3.51.

To get Swype working on the Droid X you will first need to be rooted. You will also needed Terminal Emulator or a similar program.

Using Terminal Emulator

su
rm /system/app/Swype.apk
pm uninstall com.swype.android.inputmethod
rm /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so

After doing this you should be able to install the updated version of Swype using the step by step instructions located on the Swype website.
