Did verizon just say no to nexus one?

No. Maybe you should do some research. The latest articles have said that Google came to Verizon first and offered them this new phone and they turned it down, that's why they went to AT&T and T-Mobile. Do a little more research and get back to me on that one. Thanks.

ohhhh that? well that isnt 100 percent confirmed to be true. maybe they went to verizon because they liked the partnership they formed earlier this year. maybe that didnt happen at all. either way doesnt matter for now, this baby is supporting pure gsm for now. HTC Nexus One blessed by the FCC with T-Mobile and AT&T 3G data -- Engadget

ummm verizon was first at what? having an android phone? no, that was tmobile.

If I need to clarify myself, read this article and specifically the first "Update" at the bottom.

The Google Phone: what we know... and what we don't (updated) -- Engadget

"Update: Peter Kafka over at All Things Digital says that T-Mobile is now on-board to sell this device as an unsubsidized, unlocked phone through its retail channels (he claims the big G first went to Verizon, but was turned down). That doesn't really make a lot of sense if the phone does indeed work on both T-Mobile and AT&T 3G networks. We can't see what's in it for T-Mobile in that scenario, unless this were 3G only on its network, like... previous Google dev phones. We can't help but feel there's a crucial piece of this puzzle still missing -- here's hoping we get that info soon."

Yes, it's obvious that this phone is GSM now. However, the point I was making is that that other guy who was posting was saying that GSM band was the ONLY logical choice for Google to have went to for this phone. I was simply saying that the evidence that says that Verizon was approached first and turned Google down on the offering, shows that Google THEMSELVES did not think that GSM was the OBVIOUS choice because of 90% of the world market share. So, that argument is baseless. This had nothing to do with you. I was simply getting tired of hearing all of that "GSM is the only choice to put this phone on" when Google themselves went to a CDMA carrier first instead of a GSM one. End. Of. Story.

Way to jump to conclusions, folks. The Nexus will only support T-Mobile's 3G band in the US (1700MHz) and 3G globally (900/2100MHz). Pretty much a sure sign this is simply a dev version of a real HTC phone, probably the Passion. So, back to square one. Really, this jives with the unlockr picture carrying the HTC branding and slightly different button assignment vs the Nexus. As for T-Mobile getting this, not sure what to make of those rumors. But the indications that it's a non-exclusive, unlocked phone for GSM carriers is debunked, at least for here in the US. Yeah, you can pop an AT&T SIM card in it, but it'll be no different than an imported phone. This is no google phone.

Google should release this phone on all networks if they want to truly battle the Iphone

At the same time though I dont get why so many verizon users are upset that they may not be getting this phone

In the last 2 months verizon has managed to receive the 2 BEST android phones available right now

Eris>>>Hero, Mytouch 3g, etc
Droid>>>G1, Cliq, Moment

In all honesty it sort of makes sense that the Nexus Phone is gonna be 3g only on Tmobile since they were the first carrier to introduce Android to the world(g1)

Also Tmobile hasnt had a real android phone in a while

Sprint just got the Hero and Moment
Verizon just got the Droid and Eris

Tmobile has been stuck with the G1 for over a year and the Mytouch for about 5 months now.

Im not even gonna mention the Cliq which IMO is a Sidekick mixed with Android.

Im guessing that Tmobile is going to get the Nexus one in January. Then around March, Verizon or Sprint will get there new Android phone since they just got new devices.

Despite Google saying the phone will be sold unlocked realistically I view the phone as Tmobile only since that is the only carrier which 3g will work with the Nexus.

Yes it will work on ATT but only on Edge which is IMO not worth it due to how slow it is.

Problem most Verizon users have is that although Verizon has recieved the 2 BEST android devices lately they both still have HUGE glaring flaws. The Droid packs a decent size screen with a nice processor but also includes an absolutely worthless keyboard, looks and feels like a brick, and obviously doesnt include Sense UI. The Eris includes Sense UI, but has a crap screen, crap processor, and terrible battery life.

There are a large group of us that want to give Android a shot but have absolutely no appeal for either of the Droids. What we want is an android device with a 3.7"+ AMOLED screen, a snapdragon processor, no physical keyboard, and an appealing form factor. And preferably made by HTC so we can have access to Sense UI.

Would anyone like to guess why T-Mobile makes a good choice for Google to seel an unsubsidized cell phone through?

Anyone recall that T-Mobile just recently changed their plan structure to include Contract and Contract Free plans?

The Even More Plus plan which is a contract free plan is for purchasing of unsubsidized phones, and makes purchasing them actually much cheaper than subsidized phones both in up front cost and in total cost of ownership.

This is true because the contract free unsubsidized plan is $20 a month cheaper than the comparable contract, subsidized plan. Here's a quick comparison on a $400 phone

Even More Plus:
Up Front – ~$50(1st month + tax if applicable)
Monthly – $100(for first 19 months with unlimited TalkTextWeb then $80 afterwards)

Even More(Traditional)
Up Front – ~$200(Cost of phone plus applicable tax)
Monthly – $100(for 24 month average contract term with unlimited TalkTextWeb)

Total cost of ownership on EM+ – $2350 over 24 months with only ~$50 up front
Total cost of ownership on EM – $2600 over 24 months with $200+tax up front

Now if you ask me which one I'll be going for you better believe that I'm going for the unsubsidized phone! Lower up front cost, and same monthly cost as subsidized, but you get the benefit of your bill decreasing when you finish paying off that phone. Did I mention that it is interest free?

So Google choosing to sell this phone unlocked and unsubsidized plays very well for T-Mobile, considering the fact not too many people are willing to shell out $400-$500 up front and still be in a contract(remember the first generation iPhone? didn't get popular until the up front cost was lowered)

Just my 2 cents, but this is mainly for all those people bitching about how they'd rather have a $200 PassionC instead of a $400 Nexus One. Let me put it this way. I'd rather have a $50(up front cost) Nexus One than a $200 PassionC with a 24 month contract any day of the week.

Well no phone is absolutely perfect but as far as Android like I said Verizon has the best selection currently.

It actually wouldnt make sense to drop a new android phone on Verizon after they just spent all that money marketing the Droid as the new flagship android device for there company.

Releasing the Nexus in January would put a huge dent in Droid sales and the phone would only be 3 months old.

All the websites so far have been speculating that a Verizon version of the phone will drop later but for now Verizon is just gonna have to sit on the Droid for a few more months.

Tmobile on the other hand has been sitting on the G1 and Mytouch for a while now so releasing a new Android would not affect sales and most likely would instead have people with g1s or Mytouch upgrading to the Nexus.

Here ya problem, there not using TMobile billing plans (well you're not getting a billing plan at purchase). Tmobile isnt selling the phone. You're buying it from Google. So you're still paying $400 for a phone, aka the cost of a playstation or 360.
Which begs the questions if you're so found of it do you own a ADP 1 or 2?

I'm the type of person who buys something out right, my last phone I had was a European HTC Hero because the G1 and MyTouch's specs were abysmal( I bought in August) I purchased the phone outright at $600 so I have no problem spending that kind of money.

Also from what I've been reading, a few places have stated that T-Mobile will be the carrier behind Google on this one(Recently released FCC details show this as well with a 900/1700/2100 UMTS band), so I assume they will be handling billing, as you would be crazy to think Google will only be selling this device online only.

I didn't purchase either of the ADP phones because of the fact the ADP1 and Google I/O device(Basically just G1 and Magic or *MyTouch* have horrible specs) If they were spec'd decently for around the same price I'd probably own one. But this phone is not going to be just a dev phone.

EDIT: Also in case u didn't realize, T-Mobile offers that financing to people who have the credit, so it is the same exact thing as having a credit card only with no interest and it being added to your monthly bill. Google is going to want to distribute this phone through retail channel's, and since it will be supported on T-Mobiles unique 1700mhz 3G band you better believe that T-Mobile will be there to help distribute. So if you can buy the phone at a T-Mobile store you will be able to purchase this with their Even More Plus plan and their Equipment Installment Purchase plan.

Google Phone That Much Closer To Realization? | TmoNews - Unofficial T-Mobile Blog - News, Videos, Articles and more

"The phone will be sold strictly by Google, T-Mobile will NOT sell the device". First bullet point. So lets recap, the Nexus will be sold directly by Google, just like the Dev phones and Tmobile will be the only carrier, just like the Dev phones and Google has said what was handed out was a "mobile lab".

Google to Start Selling Own Phone Without Wireless Partner by Next Year - WSJ.com

"Google plans to sell the Nexus One itself online, people familiar with the matter said, although the company may seek wireless partnerships in the future.". Somehow I dont think the future is January.

This claims it will be coming to verizon later

But while his source is about as vague as it can possibly get. Hopefully there is some truth to this though.

edit: he changed it to CDMA version later
It also says it will be $199, subsidized by Google. If true, then Google is going to revolutionize the US phone market with this thing.

Big words, but has there ever been a phone sold unlocked with such advanced hardware subsidized by the manufacture? I can't think of anything.

Probably because there isn't...

Google also has more to gain by subsidizing its own device than any other manufacturer.

I dont think there is any way that google will sell it at $199. Its hard to imagine that they could make up the $400 or so they would be losing on each phone without having a contract for a service of some kind on it.

Except the same site also says its subsidized if you get a Tmobile calling plan. Hence you're still getting a cell phone on a carrier's plan. Its so revolutionary that I already have such a set up. Outside of supposedly only working over VOIP (which wont mean anything if you have to get a contract), there is nothing revolutionary there.

Google to sell Nexus One with T-Mobile contract? January 5th launch date? – Android and Me

Ok, so I don't understand the hype. I understand, first off, that the device is rumored to be GSM only. Whether this is because Verizon said no, or it was just Google's decision and Verizon never had a choice, it really doesn't matter.

For U.S. users - may I ask - what in the world is the big deal? So you can buy the phone directly from Google and activate it on T-Mobile or AT&T. Practically speaking, how is that really any different/better than buying a phone from one of those companies, or from eBay, or from a friend, and activating the service? You're still locked into the cell companies' service plans. I see what's going on here, I really just don't see how this is a game changer.

You're answer is as good as mine man! I can't see what's so special about it either. I'm actually starting to think that there ISN'T anything special about it. I think it's going to be an Android Developer Phone just like the past two (Dream and Magic) and it can be bought from Google if you're a developer and used on T-Mobile. There really isn't any solid news on that part yet. But I'm with you, it doesn't sound like a game changer, by any means, to me yet.

why does it seem like so many people DON'T want TMobile to get this phone first? If it was rumored to be going to Verizon they would believe every rumor that has been released. It's beginning to get comical LOL

Maybe because Tmobile is the smallest (subscribers and coverage) of the national carriers? Tmobile doesn't offer 3g in my area even though its the state capitol. Hence why would I want a phone to be released on a network that doesnt offer 3g where I live? Verizon on the other hand has a good portion of the country under 3g coverage and their customer support is ranked high and hence more people can take advantage of a new phone.

So VZW should get EVERY new phone? LMAO! From VZW's past history of releases they've always been LAST getting phones. Why does everyone think thats going to change now? I think if VZW customers wanna be mad about anything they should be mad that "Big Red" is not GSM; that would help them get the newest phones first. Think about it, all of the phones on VZW have to basically be made JUST for VZW. That's a lot of resources used to make a phone for ONE CARRIER. Really, I think what this boils down to (I'm not an expert BTW) is that Google wants to try some things with the Nexus One that VZW just won't agree to (until they see someone else do it successfully, and release their own version of it and act like its something new; see: Droid). Again, be mad at VZW for not wanting to try new things, don't belittle T-Mobile and their customers.

Talk about people getting comical. First off you asked why people didn't want it coming to Tmobile, I answered why. More people on other networks.
Nor do phones for Verizon have to be made just for Verizon. Ever heard of this little company called Sprint-Nextel? Also on CDMA freqs and Sprint has about 16 million more subscribers then Tmobile.
Verizon was first to get the BB Storm and Storm 2 and last I checked Verizon had the only phone with Android 2.0 on it. Yeah they've pretty much focused on BB smartphones. But was the Imagio something else on another carrier? The Eris may have been the third Hero, but it was updated slightly with a proximity sensor and better firmware. So yeah VZW has gotten better on getting the new stuff. On top of that though they seem poise to be the only carrier operating every major cell OS by years end (BB, Android, WebOS, Apple).
And the Droid was new. What other Android 2.0 was released either in the states or anywhere else (milestone was released AFTER the Droid). I mean if you want to be a Tmobile fanboi and not travel much, so be it. But dont go making crap up.

Tell me what I made up. :confused:Okay, I'll give you Sprint. But that makes 2 CDMA carriers compared to how many WORLDWIDE GSM carriers? Don't worry, I'll wait for you to count. Travel? LMAO AGAIN! Try going overseas with your VZW phone. BB Storm? LM(MF)AO! Crapola. Who else wanted it? Droid? Nothing new. I was actually referring to how VZW acts like ANDROID is something new. People had 2.0 on the rooted G1 before the Droid was even released, anyway. 2.0.1 too. I'm not a fanboi either; I've used VZW, TMO, and AT&T; i like certain things about all of them. Verizon has a great network, no doubt, but it's not worth a carnote and being nickel and dimed every month. I just get tired of the "high and mighty" attitude of VZW and their customers.
/rant ;)
