Help Sprint: Android 2.1 coming to Moment first half of next year

Well crap...
I am NOT excited about this news. We are already the testers for the Moment phone... still awaiting the fix for the current bugs.
And NOW we find out that we are going to continue to be the 'testers' for the new 2.1. Yay, a whole new batch of bugs, and a whole new round of waiting months on end for an update for the fixes:( ]

I expected to have the 'early adopter' issue eventually come to an end, not perpetuate until the end of my contract:confused:

Hopefully some time soon they will at least give us an update with current fixes, so that we may have a 'lull' of full usage before the glitches begin again.

Nah, we won't be testers for 2.1...by the time we get it, it will have been out a long time on other phones I'm sure.

Plus, 2.1 won't have any of the problems that 2.0 had... trust me :D (love that M$/Mac commercial).
 
have you guys seen the BADA screenshots ? how about getting that on the moment. they did look nice but i dont wanna try another immature os. too many bugs!
 
Sprint customers bought new phones and in <2 months their OS version is in the bottom 30-percentile of all Android users. Old versions should be more stable, so how did so many bugs slip thru to Moment? How many of our favorite apps in the Market will consider 1.5 obsolete before we get 2.x? Latest Google Maps released in Dec supports 1.6 and up.

Holy crap.. so many bugs "slipped" through because 1.5 is all they had to code with when the phone was designed.. the reason there is bugs is because 1.5 wasen't ment for CDMA (every cdma phone except the droid is on a patched 1.5)

I have been hearing that 1.5 was modified to support CDMA for Sprint then why is there a battery meter bug which is more of a platform issue than a protocol component? There have been no complaints about CDMA/EVDO. The calls are clear, and data speed is good. The bugs are in the other peripherals which have been part of Android for much longer.
 
I read that Sprint has recanted their previous promise of 2.0, and have instead made the promise of 2.1. Haven't seen any buzz about it... maybe I just missed the thred?

Adjusting for corporate foot-dragging (both Samsung and Sprint), I'll go ahead and predict Aug 2010 for the 2.1 firmware. While the rest of the android market is enjoying 3.x.

I sure hope your wrong, but not denying the possibility. :mad:
 
happy I still have the Hero to switch back to if it ends up being more consistently updated. And thankfully we'll only have to suffer with the Moment for a year. 3 months after they release 2.x for the Moment, many of us will qualify to upgrade to a new phone, and for sure it won't be a Samsung.

Unless Sprint finds some way to distance themselves from this fiasco, it may not even be a Sprint phone, as far as I'm concerned.
 
I don't have that option unfortunately. A bit married to sprint through work. I highly doubt I could do 14 android phones, one basic phone and two 4g wireless cards (I know no one can do the 4g cards) for $1200/mo
 
I have heard a lot of folks saying that one of the biggest advantages of the Moment over the Hero is that because of the "vanilla" Android install, we won't have to wait for HTC to provide the upgrade - basically I take this to mean that the Moment is more easily upgraded... Is there a way for us to update Android on the Moment to 2.0 without waiting for Sprint?
 
I think you mean without waiting for Samsung. HTC provides the updates for the Hero, Samsung for the Moment. What info we don't know, is which company will put the most effort into the update when Sprint requests it? My money bets on HTC.
 
It should be easier to upgrade. The HTC device will have to wait for HTC to port the Sense UI to 2.0, which I presume they are already doing, but Samsung probably doesn't have to do much - if anything - if the Moment has a completely default Android OS on it. Technically, since it exists on the Droid, if it really is vanilla, it should be relatively easy for someone to figure out a way to apply the upgrade to the Moment.
 
ah yes, but they both still have to wait for Sprint to rewrite their crapware apps to 2.0/2.1. And something tells me they're only going to do that once, so both will get them at the same time.
