Ota 3.70.651.1??? - xda-developers

And yes I know it says release 12/13

EDIT: Here is a stock rooted rom with the updated software.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781

I know there have been a lot of people asking about it.

Whoa. Thanks for that. Just reading through it i wonder why its PRL 60671? There has been a recent update and were at 60672 now..

Im kinda interested in that 1.90 PRI though.

The fixes dont really do much for me, other than that swype keyboard addition. Itll be interesting to see whassup with that.

Looks like an update made to unroot a few people who accept it not knowing what to do. Haha

Funny that it says hardware version 0002/0003. I wonder if it will come to 0004 phones.

I'll probably dodge the update anyway because I plan on rooting in a few weeks.

It will be Rolled out soon... In groups... Not mass availabilty so that they make sure the server is not overloaded...

"Team, There has been a new software version released for the Evo, please reference the CE forums for the specific update details. Please understand this is a tiered roll, each device will not be able to update until the unit is eligible for the update. This is to prevent overload of the server. The user will receive a notification when eligible for the update."

Where is that from?

This maybe a dumb question. I'm rooted with unrevoked3. I'm running the original, stock kernel, I just added su privileges so I could do WiFi tethering.

What is the likely outcome of accepting the OTA update?

Thanks in advance.

You should never accept an OTA once you're rooted. Theoretically, since you rooted with unrevoked, you can't lose s-off. But if there's a new hboot, you could really screw things up. That's assuming you could even get it to successfully install with root. You should always wait until a rooted flashable version is available...which is usually before the official version anyway.

you will lose root. go into settings and uncheck auto update or update notifications what ever it is.

now that you are rooted just go over to xda for customs roms or the latest stock roms. don't worry a stock rom is usually up with in 24 hours of an OTA release. and sometimes you can get it sooner as sprint only updates so many phones at a time.

Anyone know if the new 72 has a zip file for rooted phones?

Charles

what do you mean? if you are rooted you can update your prl just like if you are not rooted. I just did mine this morning. settings - software update - update prl. you may have try a couple of times but it should update.

Losing root would be the best case scenario. There are definitely worse possibilities.

So I'm new to rooting, having used UnRevoked a little bit ago, but using the stock ROM. Should I wait for a version of this that won't break my root? I'm quite confused over here.

That question basically answered several posts up. Never accept an OTA updated once you're rooted. Wait for a rooted, flashable version.

Ahh, okay, thank you. Hopefully someone will post it soon. Another question, if you don't mind. When a new update is released rooted like this, is it a ZIP file that we download to our SD card then flash in the bootloader menu? I've not done it before.

Yes it is. It is very simple...don't worry. And when the time comes, if you are still a little iffy about doing it, just ask here and we will hook you up!!!

They will very likely have a stock rooted ROM out in the next day or two...quite likely the end of today. I will most likely wait on Myn to update his newest release based on this newest update. Have no clue what the turnaround time is on that. Shouldn't be too long.

Just a little clarification on that - you flash PC32IMG files from hboot (the bootloader), and those are usually RUUs (ie, the stock OTA). I'm assuming you probably meant recovery, in which case, yes, you flash the zip from there.

K, now I'm confused, what's the difference between hboot and recovery?

hboot is the bootloader. When you turn the phone off, then hold down the volume down key while turning the phone back on, it will take you there. It is a white screen with menu options. It's basically the lowest level you'll ever interact with. If you can't get to hboot, more than likely, you've got a brick. Recovery is just a special image loaded from hboot that gives you the ability to modify the system when android is not loaded. It's basically does what it's name suggests. If you have a broken recovery image, though, you can fix it from android itself (if bootable) or from hboot. Somebody else might be able to explain it a little better if that wasn't clear enough.
