Help I'm a bit mixed up here with this phone

Well this phone has me a bit mixed up here, the price is what is greatly attracting me.

Let's say the LG Optimus M ran 2.1. What phone would be better, the Ascend or the Optimus M?

Is there any ROM out that can upgrade the Ascend to 2.2?

Does the Ascend have the market?

There's no Froyo rom out for the ascend currently, Huawei will be pushing 2.2 out early next year. For the price, the ascend is by far the better phone.

They'll be pushing out 2.2? I'm good with that. And I thought that too, because when I looked at the specs of the phone, the only major difference was the android version.. Other than that, there wasn't much.

Does this phone have the Market though?

Awesome! Does it have Swype? I can do without it, I have my alternatives [ Shapewriter ], but does it come preloaded with Swype? Or is it installable?

Good, Good. If I can't snag any other phone on another network for a reasonable price, then I'll definitely be getting this.

The Ascend is 12% slower with a CPU clock speed of 528mhz vs the LG at 600mhz.

As I remember the Ascend is about 21% cheaper.

As I understand it, the slower cpu and the older version of android
make the Ascend a poorer performer at this time. When 2.2 or 2.3 are available for the Ascend that may close the gap some.

I just saw that MetroPCS currently has the Ascend for $99

Unless you are looking for the most performance you can get, that looks like a good deal.

The math just improved eh

Yea, for half the cost it makes a difference.

I have been looking into the Ascent some more, and I am not sure the
CPU clock is 528mhz anymore.

I also found that the Ascent has half the ram the Optimus has. That means you can do fewer things before it bogs down. Not good news.

It looks like it may be 600mhz also. That also makes a big change in the math.

I am going to have to do some more poking around. Metro is going to be rolling our some more android phones early in the year, I may get a Ascend to hold me over until I see what they come out with.

$100 is hard to beat.

Didnt even notice they marked it down. 100 dollars is a real good price, but I don't want an android phone that isn't capable of crap.. I'm actually seeing if I can shoot for the mytouch 4G for Christmas, but if not, I'll just pick this up for the hell of having an Android phone.

It does indeed clock out at 600;)

At this point the Ascend is the entry level phone and the Optimus is the top end.

Optimus has:

A-GPS and S-GPS capabilities
Camera with macro and autofocus and higher resolution

I am not sure on the type of screen the Ascend has but the Optimus has a glass screen as opposed to plastic.

The Huawei Ascend is a classy phone that performs well. The price is terrific. Huawei Devices is on the move and dedicated to providing a great product at a better price. The android market? Of course, every android has the market.

I am afraid you are wrong. Not every device has the market on it. For example, RIGHT NOW the only Android tablet with the Market is the Galaxy Tab. The other 20 or so tablets (which are run of the mill) do not have access to the Market because those are devices not tested by Google and given the permission to use the Market. There are even devices that are soon to be released that are lacking the Market.

Even if the Ascend doesn't come out with 2.2, now that Cricket has found a market for Smart Phones they are certain to come out with a 2.2 or 2.3. After all, they only recently signed a 5 year contract with Sprint so you can bet they will be doing all they can to attract new customers.

I'm betting that they will have a new Samsung AND Huawei to offer soon.
