Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

I have a few queries on buying from expansys.
I called them up on this number +85224166700 which seems to be their HONGKONG Office...Even if order from Uk..its gonna be shipped from HK it seems and for warranty issues i shud ship the product to HK...

I got details that there are 2 bundles available :
1. From Expansys HK : Phone + 32 GB Card = 32500 INR ( she converted and told me the price in INR )
2. From Expansys UK : Phone + Cradle n all = 30431 INR

I asked her how much would the customs taxes be. She replied we cant say for sure. But if you have any special instructions for us to label your parcel as something...we shall do that for you..I was like i dont know nothing abt it...I will research on internet and get back to ya... :P What shud be spl instructions on the parcel to avoid customs taxes ?
She also said its best to place ur order over the phone if u have any spl instructions..

Does getting the stuff using 22 bucks DHL better than 40 bucks FEDEX in terms of speed and customs taxes ?

I also asked her is this a china made phone...!!! She replied no sir its made in Taiwan...
Abt the warranty is it wise to buy it from there to send it all across to HK or UK to get any mishap to the phone rectified ?

to be frank, u shud wait till Jan for india release of DHD. Now getting it from UK doesnt make much sense.
You can also chek dual core phones (Like LG 2X) :rolleyes:

U will need to send the phone to HK (per my info - correct me if nybody knws if its other way) for warranty.

I dont think any special instructions can help and courier DHL/Fedex shud not make any diff apart from time n cost

Mr. Khayyum calls me from HTC india whether or not i got the accurate information on a call i made on Dec 15th reg the launch date of DHD
And he says the emails i got have incorrect info and CONFIRMS that DHD will be released in First Week of Jan with a price of 30k Approx ( he was pretty sure abt it though...donno how ) lol
But the news made me happy...for sure...hope not in vain...!!

Also when i asked when wud they put it up on the website..he said usually around 5-7 days before or after the launch it seeems...
I couldnt say much to him cos i am tired of their marketing and customer treatment...
And i would just swallow it cos i love DHD and this is India

But then the expansys girl told me it will be in my hands in 48 hours...cos its in stock...

and says we r estimating it...nt sure and all....

Even if they have it in stock it will take 4-5 days for the package to reach your place. And with regard to the speed it won't make much difference whether it is from UK/ HK. This is because from the shipment notifications I kept getting, the package was picked by DHL only on the next day and it was in India in another day but it took 1.5 days to get cleared in Delhi and it was on hold for another day (no idea why - probably to find a DHL flight to HYD) and then reached me only the next day in Hyd. So, unless you are in Delhi it will take you 4 days.

I never called them but yes I found out that I need to send it to HK only.
Customs is a mystery to me too. I think I just got lucky when I was charged only 800 bucks. But as even the price decreased the custom will max at 2k (assuming customs are a %).

I don't think there is any difference between DHL and FedEx. I chose DHL simply to save those 20 GBP :P.

I don't know much about the warranty (and am hoping I don't need to). And just as Andry said either way you have to send it to HK.

So, unless you need the phone right away (like I did then) it is best to wait a week till all those HTC guys sing the same song. It might break your heart to get the phone from UK/HK for 32k after 5 days and then see it release for 30k with maps/ warranty in a couple of days :)

Again this is assuming you aren't swayed by dual core.

after following this thread patiently for one month, and trying not to give away to my temptations, i finally failed today....ordered my desire z from expansys :D ....after entering a couple of discount vouchers my final price was Rs. 22887.21

Guess now the next few days will b sleepless :rolleyes:
 
first put "SMARTPHONE5" to get 5% discount, then put "EXPANSYS10" for another 10 gbp discount ...the sequence should be exact, if u put the expansys10 first then the smartphone5 will not apply...

Is it possible to avail warranty under htc india even if i buy from uk because one of my friend has a mobile shop and he can easily provide me the bill if pay him the vat charges.
I just want to know wats the criteria dat the htc guys consider while repairing under warranty??

Your bill will need to have IMEI the same as that of your mobile. by IMEI they can identify if its sold in India or UK(not sure if they do so).

I think the criteria will solely be that mobile is either sold in india or covered thru global warranty
 
I just bought the Desire HD for 397 GBP on expansys.
Rs 27500 in INR + Customs charges ( thats ofcourse there..)
The item has been shipped...already...

I am forgetting HTC India. and their aweful pathetic service makes me hate to have a cellular mobile phone....so just forgetting they existed...and expecting nthg from them...I cant even imagine their customer service if sth at all goes wrong with my phone ( if i got it in india )

Look at this phone as a best-priced gift , someone spl got for you for a dead cheap price from a foreign country...and u get the most useful freebies like a car charger and cradle dock etc...wich are very much reqd for a smartphone...

Trust me...Desire HD for 30-32 K in india....doesnt make even 1 % Sense to me...
The sexy Desire itself is 27.5 K... So no way Desire HD is gonna be sold at 30 k or around...
This bad ass has got 8mp camera + 786 MB RAM + 4.3 wow screen + most of all...HTC Sense...i jst loved it on my friends desire phone.....and wud soon get 2.3 android tooo...

i have no idea about that but i just saw this while surfing the web. also , its available in Mumbai n i am here in Delhi so it would be great if any Mumbaikars in our thread can confirm this.

I guess the htcsense.com/in server is down at the moment. I was able to create a HTC sense account from the phone and even downloaded appbrain from it. But I am not able to open the site on my laptop. Anyways, I guess Sense is working as it found my location and allowed me to download apps.
