Root Gingerbread keyboard

Has anyone tried out the Gingerbread keyboard which is available at xda?

There are actually two (I'm assuming they are both the same), i tried the first one didn't realize there was one in the Fascinate site at xda. With the first one i tried everything works great except haptic feedback. Anyone know how to get this fixed? I have it enabled. I think i may try the Fascinate installer, but i didn't want to go through the trouble if the same problem exists.

Fascinate Link for it:
[APP] | UPDATED 12/13/10 | Gingerbread Themed DX KB for 2.1 - xda-developers

Everyone else:
Renamed Gingerbread Keyboard - xda-developers

I'm currently running the "everyone else" version.

Any input?

Can you let me know what version of Swype you are using?

haha ok, i didnt click it..i just saw the xda link. really im partial to the mtm multitouch kbs for the vibrant now...swype lost my interest after awhile

I like swype, but sometimes i get frustrated that i have to go back and correct all these words that it got wrong. I also tend to text a lot in two different languages and the way swype was handling that i think was a pain. i like the fact that this keyboard as well as a previous keyboard i had (Incredible) you can easily switch between language by just swiping your finger on the spacebar. I haven't tried it on this yet, but when I had my incredible, (DX multitouch keyboard ported to Inc) depending on your language selection hitting the voice option would automatically know you are speaking that language and would easily type out what you spoke in that language, it was nice.

I just wish haptic feedback would work on this gingerbread keyboard that is out now, some people at XDA claim haptic works, but i can't seem to find any input from Fascinate owners. Is our community really that small?? :(

I personally haven't found a keyboard that satisfies all of my needs yet. I use swype when sitting/standing still, smartkeyboard pro w/ T9 when riding in vehicles (not driving ;) ), and straight typing (though usually still w/ the swype keyboard) if I expect swype isn't going to know what I'm trying to say.

What newer versions of swype are people referring to here? Is there a way to upgrade the stock Fascinate version without too much "haxoring"? :p

Most of us who are rooted are using jt's clean rom in which he replaced the swype with a more recent version. I really like it myself speaking as someone who for the most part uses swype

I only use swype and I've noticed a big improvement with new swype added in jts.9 I don't get ocked in for as many swypos in here lol

Do you have a link to that keyboard? I'd like to try something other than Swype... Are there any others that you would suggest?

my personal favorites are the mtm multitouch ones here: (use the 2.1 versions) xda-developers - View Single Post - [MOD] MTM Gingerbread Keyboard for SGS - Haptic Feedback Working [v2.2 01/04/2011] once we get froyo (or whatever) ill theme them to match my themes...but im not gonna waste time on 2.1 versions

here are the themed gb ones i think you wanted to see Themed Gingerbread Keyboards by BartJJ - xda-developers

I Dl'd the dark themed one and its pretty cool. I personally would like to see pink or purple, but this will do :p. A nice change from Swype!
