I think what everyone really wants is a phone/tablet combo in the 5" screen range. Who wants to carry around two devices to do the work of one. I think about the size of a brick (no pun intended). I am really looking forward to what comes out in first quarter 2011 with 4G capabilities. Love my DINC, but a bigger screen and keyboard would be a plus for my giant thumbs. Let's hope HTC surprises us all with something great.

Ive gotta disagree. I got the incredible over the droid x because the X is too big for my hands, and because i dont want a brick in my pocket.

+1
I certainly don't want a phone with anything bigger than a 4" screen and I definitely don't want any "sliders". I know my options will probably dwindle, but I like that if my phone is in my pocket, you can't actually tell its in my pocket!

The only other phone on VZW that I would go for would be the Fascinate at this point...anything else is too big or bulky in my opinion.

Any idea when the Incredible will likely get gingerbread 2.3? And is it available on a rooted Incredible yet? If so, is it worth rooting to get gingerbread, or is the update coming soon enough?

Well there is a gingerbread rom out now, it isn't 100% yet, but getting very close. As far as when verizon will roll out the OTA, I'm not sure yet, not sure if they announced it yet.

If they announced it, we would be within 72 hours of getting it.

I hear there is a decent gingerbread ROM out there, but I am staying with Virtuous ROM for now.

Bets are IF Incredible officially gets Gingerbread it is months away.

The gingerbread rom out now lacks GPS. Other than that, I think it's pretty polished...at least from what i've read.

I'm happy with my phone right now. I know of nothing I'm lacking. I know Gingerbread is the latest and greatest, but I don't see where Froyo made a spectacular difference for me. Whenever it comes out, I'll update. Until then, I'll wait. Speculating for me is just a waste of my time.

Just my 2 cents.

I would expect feb. at the earliest before Verizon releases a official ROM. Most likely April/May .

Plus I inside information from a group of Bunnies that it is coming on 8/16/2011.

You heard it hear first.

OMGB "gingerbread" is amazing. I flashed it onto my rooted incredible. It is blazing fast and has doubled my battery life. Still a few bugs to work out like videocam, bluetooth pairing...but it is by far the best ROM out yet for our phones. Very cool new look, features, etc. Grow some cajones and root your phone so you can try it :)

I bet we get our first official rom leak before the end of the month be it from vzw or sprint. From that we will have at least 10 rooted, optimized and customized roms within 24 hrs to play with :)

the current alpha roms are great but lack solid bluetooth and camcorder functionality. also seem to have trouble mounting to pc as external drive.
also they do not have sense which many have come to rely on. they are definitely worth checking out though. if you don't like it simply restore your old setup in a flash.

ALL i wish for if we get gingerbread is that IT GETS RID OF THE TEXTING LAG. holy shit, this phone is almost as useless as my eris now all because the typing lag is just terrible. UGH. atelast 5 times a day i contemplate throwing it at a wall.

For the interest of non-rooted incredibles...regardless of when, are there any reports that VZW will eventually release 2.3 for the Incredible?

Not likely for many months. That's one of the advantages of being rooted -- our developers will push out rooted Gingerbread ROMs way before we see any official OTAs.

Im guessing it isn't "many" months. Just months. Based on how long froyo took, probably february our march.

Yeah, I probably chose the wrong adjective to describe the length of wait time. Probably won't be as much as 6 months, but I'd be surprised if we see any OTAs before 2 to 3 months after release.

Having the OG Droid until just recently, I can tell you first hand that it took more than a few months for Verizon to push the Froyo OTA. Those who were rooted had it wayyyyy sooner than those who weren't. Maybe it's different over here?

At any rate, if you have a rooted Dinc, your wait for a fully-functioning Gingerbread ROM is almost over. You will have the option to flash way before those who are not rooted.

Speaking of root, it was MUCH easier to do on the Dinc than the OG. Just one click. Really! If you're not rooted yet - anyone - there is no reason to not do it, even if you're not technically inclined, as long as you can follow some very easy instructions, you're set.

I wouldn't choose the words "fully-functioning" for most ROMs until about a week or 2 before the official release ( when they get their hands on the official release. ) either. Theres always issues here and there before the official release, and most of the tweaks ROM makers will make are either adding in old mods, or hacking things up a bit to make things work. It's not perfect, but they are usually available well before the official release as you mentioned.

I VERY strongly disagree with saying everyone should root though. There are tons of people, probably even the majority, that should not be rooted. There are plenty of people out there that root could cause a lot more harm than good.

For those that do not root, patience is the word.

I don't recall setting a timeline for a *fully functioning* Gingerbread ROM. What I said was that our wait is almost over. And no where does that imply there would not be *issues* to be worked out. I've flashed more leaked ROMs than probably most here, so I know all about the problems that can accompany first releases. Please do not imply I said something or meant something I did not.

Also, regarding who should root - again what I said was that you don't have to be a geek to root - just able to follow simple instructions. Whoever is able to do that and wants to root should go for it - obviously not everyone will who can, so don't get yourself in such a snit over it. Most of the people who should not root are not reading these forums anyway.

Cipher6, your point is __________? What is a timeline anyway? And what does "almost over" mean? Next week? Next month? No one knows, but based on what we know, it will be sooner than later

Feel free to quote me on that.

Geez!

I am running OMGB v6 and i have ZERO typing lag...the new gingerbread keyboard itself eliminates that.

My daily driver is OMGB v6 and I must say it is about 93% functional. As far as my use goes the only thing that does not work is connecting to hidden wifi...I can live with that.

But I doubt it will be "fully functioning"

You might be confusing *fully functioning* with being *bug-free*. Will there be more issues than usual with the first of the fully functioning? Probably. But the rooted community will have access to real Gingerbread ROMs weeks if not months before the OTA goes out. That has been documented with 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs and OTAs. I'd be shocked if it is any different with Gingerbread.

At any rate, we will get it when we get it

I think the bottom line here (as djkeller3 has stated) is the distinction between "fully functional" and "bug free". It is apropos to mention that through 5 official releases of Android OS that I have seen across two hardware platforms, there has not yet been a "bug free" release.

The two current 2.3 ROM's out there are not bug free or fully functioning yet, but the simple fact that they are both very viable, very quickly lends credence to what has been stated here that it will happen sooner rather than later.

The end result of this rapid development should be seen as a positive for all of us!!!
