I am running OMGB v6 and i have ZERO typing lag...the new gingerbread keyboard itself eliminates that.

My daily driver is OMGB v6 and I must say it is about 93% functional. As far as my use goes the only thing that does not work is connecting to hidden wifi...I can live with that.

I am running this also. The only thing missing is video camera. I'm pretty sure the next release will be pretty much as fully functional as it needs to be. I know the OMGB v6 is waaayyyyy faster than 2.2...

interesting...did you have typing lag with stock 2.2, as i do?

Is this a gingerbread specific feature or can the Inc already do this? If it can please inform me of how because this is news to me!

some reason im not experiencing the text delay. im using better keyboard and its so intelligent what im typing it just adds the right word before i even finish it.

Im so happy running the CM7 GB builds, that i havent followed the actual release AT ALL lol.

So is there any word in the wold about when it might officially drop?

Thanks

What i got it already!! I just emailed google and they sent it right back to me:p:p

ALL i wish for if we get gingerbread is that IT GETS RID OF THE TEXTING LAG. holy shit, this phone is almost as useless as my eris now all because the typing lag is just terrible. UGH. atelast 5 times a day i contemplate throwing it at a wall.

I have had the DINC for about a month. I had my eris for over a year. The dinc is sooooo much faster in typing than the eris ever was. Everything is stock, no root, no launcher, just turned off some stuff. Outside of it sending texts to the wrong people the first and second day I had it, it is fine. It even stopped doing that. I do plan to root in a couple days when I get more than 10 minutes of down time. Just to do it.I just do not see where you are coming from with this lag you speak of.

Because the quicker its dropped, it will become the standard for all dev's making up new roms

choices, options, etc.

Since HTC hasn't made an official statement on this yet, the only thing we can do is to track their movement, so to speak.

1. HTC's process it to first adapt Sense to an Android OS, then port that OS to a platform, and then to further port that platform version to each phone/carrier. An example would be when they ported Sense to Android 2.2, then to the Desire (which is a platform), and then to the derivatives (Evo first, then Incredible). The Desire got it August 1st, the Evo on the 3rd, and the Incredible started its roll-out on or around the 26th.

2. "New" Sense has been ported to Android 2.2.1. The Thunderbolt will launch with this. The Desire HD and Z have this. HTC's Spanish Twitter stated that all current 2.2-based phones will get it. So once again, we can expect the unlocked Desire to get it, followed by the Evo and Incredible.

3. So far, HTC has NOT finished porting Sense to 2.3. This is evident in that the Thunderbolt was demoed running 2.2.1 and will launch (presumably no later than March 1st) with 2.2.1. The Thunderbolt is on the Desire HD platform, so when we see the Desire HD's update announced, we can speculate that the Thunderbolt's isn't far behind.

4. The Desire's successor is supposedly going to be announced at MWC (February 14-17 this year). If that does occur, then it's safe to assume that the original Desire will soon hit EOL, and thus, not see updates after 2.2.1. If this does occur, then a 2.3 update for the Incredible is pretty much dead.

So my speculation based on the above is that the Incredible will get 2.2.1 + New Sense, but not an official port of 2.3.

Only time I've had typing lag on any OS 2.1 , 2.2 or 2.3 was when I'm downloading apps or updating apps and as they install the phoen will lag if I'm trying to type at the same time it's installing an update or app . But under normal times I've never even seen this phone hiccup even when I've had it underclocked at >700mhz

For our lurkers and others not really familiar with Gingerbread, I hope this little vid helps clarify.

I note with interest that while they say it's for Games, garbage collection (a programmer's term meaning to not waste memory while an app is running) may benefit overall smoothness and stability for any number of apps, and perhaps the phone in general. That alone makes it a very desirable update.

I'm sorry, but this is an embarrassment. Say what you will about the iphone, but when a new version of iOS comes out, every phone capable of running it has got it within less than a month. Google needs to take over the update process; gingerbread has been out for months and only ONE android device has it!

This isn't some tiny company out in CA, this is GOOGLE. Don't tell me they can't do it.

I'm not knocking android, I just want what I paid for.

Google doesn't do the updates for your phone. They just make the software. The manufacturers are the ones that decide when and how to implement an update. Google, themselves, have more important things to do and they can't write code for every single different chip, screen type, buttons, trackpad, keyboard and so on. If you really expect a full google experience than I would suggest getting one of the Nexus phones. Just my $.02

Google shouldnt allow manufacturers to put out a product they dont intend on fully supporting, for at least the near future. not even a year later, and we are already missing out on updates (possibly)?

I could understand if it was such a major update that the hardware wouldnt support it. But it appears to be fine, since im running GB via CM7 perfectly stable lol

Seriously. If you want a fully working gingerbread build go root the phone and run the CM7 nightlies. I have been running them for about 10 days and have had pretty much zero issues.

I can confirm that the phone is smoother and faster and better at multitasking with Android 2.3.

It's called "open source." That means that the software is free for anyone to use. The manufacturers are taking the code and tweaking it to their own liking. HTC Sense, Motoblur, snapdragons, hummingbirds, and the list goes on. Google doesn't need nor want to close it off.

Google shouldn't allow manufacturers to do what with their free software? The manufacturer can do whatever they want...which is the same exact reason that the cyanogenmod team can do whatever they want and that is why we have the great CM7 nightlies.

CM7 #12 is so fast.
