Root I Need a Rooting Mentor!

Okay.. So I bought Desire after much speculation and comparisons.. :)
Love it and can't get enough of it.. But there's one problem which is the ONLY problem...! On the last leg of memory space on phone.. So I wanna bite the Rooting Pie...
Here's the thing.. as much as I'd like to appreciate the free flow and meticulous details about rooting in this forum I still feel n00b after reading it.. So I, a self confessed help-aholic need HELP!

I need an experienced 'Rooter' to help me by being my mentor for the entire process... that means I get to bother u and throw all types of idiotic questions and expect you to guide me 'step-by-step' to root my Desire.... so that i dont brick it.!

So, Anyone willing to help me please?

Happy to help. I use the phandroid app to browse this forum so don't always see pm's but use this thread for questions as many will know the answers

Read the faqs many times and read the.linked unrevoked rooting guide in the rooting faq. Again and again.

We can fill in the blanks

Having rooted & flashed a ROM in the last week I wouldn't have got anywhere without him.

Read the FAQ's & that will make it clearer.

On second thoughts, any suggestions for ROM for my Desire? I'm fixed on LeDrOiD.
Also Is Radio upgrade/flashing a must?
