I just tried flashing 12.18.zip and got an "installation aborted (bad)"! As I understand it I need an ext3 which I have, is 1 Gb too big? I was also running a custom partition, which I think I wiped, I think I'm now back on the standard N1 Table. I did a Nandroid BU and all is well, but what am I doing wrong? I don't simply want to keep flashing a bad .zip.

I have a 1GB EXT3 partition, I don't use the N1 table (I'm not S-OFF) and it works fine. Did you download it from the direct link or the MultiUpload one? I've always used the multiupload one (and then used MegaUpload from the choices) and it should be about 151MB in size one downloaded.

I've actually gone back to 0.12.11 as I've been having issues with Wi-Fi, will move on in the new year once the next version is out

That ZIP isn't compressed, though. Don't know why, though!

My ZIP, once I've added/removed a few apps and compressed/signed, is 109MB

Just use the stock table and it'll flash fine

Yeah you'll need to get rid of the N1 table. The 80MB defrost rom I flash works out about 110MB

See now I shouldn't have done that! I was perfectly happy with Cyanogen and now I've flashed Miui............ ooooooooooooooooooooh its so nice! I can see why people call it an iphone clone though.

I see a problem there already, the N1 Table is: System 125Mb, or there abouts.

I boobed! N1 Table is 148 and standard Miui works with it, I was confused between it and my old custom partition.

I had a 3GS a while before my Desire, the iPhone is a very nice slick phone but needing to go through iTunes to do EVERYTHING was such a nonsense. Since then I've realized that customizing your phone to the extent you can with the Desire makes it so much more your own device, rather than just a different home screen and the same apps just moved about.

Anyway MIUI isn't working properly, all apps install, some fc, Titanium BU, Set CPU to name but 2. It also recognises my ext partition of 0.92Gb. My ext MAY be ext4, if that makes a difference?

Any ideas?

EDIT: ext3, same problem. Wondering how much cache I should have?

what eMIUI are you running
im running 12.18 and i dont get any forcecloses on any apps other than miren browser but miren is unstable anyway

0.92gb sounds right for a 1gig partition.
did you put in 1000 or 1024?

I'm going to try a custom partition as I don't really know what partition I have Circa Danfrance in a previous thread and a modified mdtpartmap. I'll modify that to 149 98 before I do anything else.

Edit: I flashed the MIUI without using the mtd thinking it would merely default to N1 Table.
My ext was done on my Linux Disk Utility and and just slid somewhere near 1Gb. Didn't thing it was important?

if you use the custom MTD layout, whatever you put in the text file will be true (as you patched with recovery) but if you don't patch the rom boot, the rom thinks its the standard HTC desire layout.

To change the layout with the custom, edit mtdpartmap.txt appropriately, reflash recovery patch, flash rom and patch rom boot.

I've flashed N1Table through Fastboot, this is now my default. Am I right?

Edit: Just downloaded a fresh copy using rastamans Siglink, and now I get the same message as I started out with | cannot open/sdcard/miui signed etc (bad)? yet Cyanogen 6.1.1 restores pefrectly! I think I'll wait until the January release now anyway, give me time to look at what's going on.

Phone: HTC DESIRE | S-OFF | N1 table
Current ROM: eMIUI 0.12.18 [download]
Current kernel: VorkKernel 02-Dec-2010 BFS (2.6.35.9)
Current radio: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 with it's RIL

What's RIL? Can I have it? What'll it do for me? I don't really need it as I don't know what it does but I'm determined to have it!

Mod for mods sake! How do I flash a Kernel? I'm high on sugar and I can't sleep!

I read its flashed after the rom otherwise rom just overwrites it? I'm a lot calmer now, I tempered my hubris by playing swinball in the garden, it was dark but points scoring was easy as I was on my own. Cat thinks I'm bonkers.

Yes thats right. Any additions to a rom (kernels, system apps, patches, add-ons, themes) that are flashed are also stored in /system

When flashing a rom (which includes kernel) it overwrites /system

The one thing I've found you need to watch when flashing kernels is SetCPU. Uncheck "set on boot" before a kernel update - if you don't you may suffer a boot loop.

I used to think my phone couldn't handle HAVS kernels at all until I figured this one out (and then later discovered that it was a known gotcha!).

Vorkkernel 2.6.35.9 gave me wifi issues! 2.6.35.7-DeFrost-Bravotest-HAVS-BFS-AXI @128 - 1190. I have no idea what most of that means but I'm strangely proud :-)

Nope. I flashed the DeFrost one in my lefty thing instead. As DeFrost be based on Cyanogen I thought it would be compatible, wifi works, I have extra speed and a 128MHz screen off profile. I'm now searching for tomorrows mod of the day. The swingball has been put back in the shed I notice!
