[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

Am I the only one that thinks an HDMI port is useless? Seriously, what would you use it for?

"Hey Billy Bob, you remember when I took the family to Disney Land? You should see the pictures I took. Oh no, not on my phone...let's hook my phone up to your 60" TV. Oh, and I took 4 hours of video too!"

Letting someone in my house is one thing...but there is no way they are hooking their phone up to my TV to show me that crap. Just saying :D

Oh yeah...not to mention that you have to have a mini-HDMI to regular HDMI cable with you everywhere you go...hmmm

I used the video out on my Incredible a few times to watch Sunday Ticket on a TV at a location I didn't have a computer or sunday ticket . Worked out pretty well . Image quality was pretty sub par but better then missing the game

I wasn't poking fun at anyone

My question was serious. I know that a lot of people want an HDMI port on a phone and I am honestly curious as to what you would do with that. I have a HDMI port on my Archos Tablet but really don't see how I would use it in a "real world" scenario. I know what I CAN do with it...just don't know HOW or when I would actually use it.

Play Movies on the big screen? Perhaps, but you cannot fit very many HD or even DVD quality movies/videos on an SD card so you can only have a few movies on the device (unless you are talking low quality videos). If you have an HDMI port on a phone than even if it is never used, many people will be glad it is there...but if a phone doesn't have it, people seem to have a big problem with it and I find myself asking "why"???

I for one would would use the hdmi out for watching movies when away from home on vacation. like you said it would not be a hd but a decent quality standard definition movie is fine for watching. i have used this feature with the tv out on my incredible many times. its just easier than burning movies to take with us when we go on vacation. so while i would only use it a few times a year, it would come in handy. having said all that, i am about to get the notion ink adam in a few weeks and that will have the hdmi out and eliminate the need for it on a phone so its not a big deal really.

ps: should we change the name of the thread to thunderbolt?
edit: nevermind i see where someone recently did :) i wish they would make up their minds on a name...i was partial to incredible HD

Yeah, I see the problem now...I never get to go anywhere on vacation :p

But IF I was going on vacation and I was going to watch movies on a TV, I would probably be going with a VGA out (supported by almost every "new" tv) from my laptop. This would provide me with the options of Netflix, movies directly from my hard drive, and/or web content. I'm always going to have my laptop and a VGA cable in my bag so no planning required.

Not saying it's wrong to want or use HDMI out on a phone...just doesn't seem like it would be a "must have" feature to me personally.

And yes, I changed the name of the thread but didn't delete the other names so people that have known this as the Inc HD, or Mecha for the past 3+ months wouldn't be lost :D

And...I don't care for the name either but it could have a good marketing campaign based off the name I suppose. I thought the Moto Droid had a cheesy name as well but now I couldn't imagine it having been named anything else.

HDMI out....it can record video, I want to watch that video on a large screen while on vacation, because I don't want my whole family crowding around my phone. When I get home I will transfer the video to my computer and make vacation DVDs. Tacky, but great for those with children.

Lets get some specs and a firm release date on this phone! I'm looking for a cheap Incredible so that I can jump back to Verizon and sell the Evo before this comes out, so I can make some decent money on it.

What if they announce it at CES but dont release it til march or april? Then all the hype and anticipation was for nothing. I mean i strongly hope they dont and release this phone asap because otherwise with the dual core phones coming out this would be like a low end compared to those although I want this phone their is no doubt HTC always makes good phones just sucky battery life

HDMI should definitely be included. There is no reason to not have it. it is great to be able to show recorded video clips on the big screen. it is nice to be able to stop by mom, bro and sis's house to show clips of my daughter and other fun stuff like the bear and cubs playing in my yard a few weeks ago. i also use mine for work all the time. we record construction videos before the rock goes up, at any time we can hook up to tv and review items or if at later date something needs to be added. VGA is going the way of the dodo bird, there are more tvs without vga than with. there are no hdtvs built without hdmi.

that motorola "olympus"? is looking better by the day. basically same phone but with dual core and hdmi. why HTC, why? i know dual core is not end all be all, but i find it hard to spend my hard earned money on top tech that will be outdated. i know that anything electronic you purchase is outdated the day you buy it, but we all know all the top teir phones will be dual core. im torn, i love my inc, i mean love it. i want to stay htc as sense is simply the best skin period. i want sense 2.5. the phone is slick as hell looking, but i may have to pass on this one.

damn 1280x800, havnt heard that one yet. that would be cool. although it is almost comical. why? how much more resolution do you need on a 4.3" device? spend the money and development on processor and battery life.

"Prototype Thunderbolts were reportedly running Android 2.2, but the device is expected to run the latest version of Android by the time it's released to market." Very interesting but I would not be surprised one bit if it was not released with gingerbread..

All this speculation sucks, really looking forward to CES..

it can still be the first LTE phone even if it doesnt come out till mid 2011. To my knowledge I have not seen anywhere stated that any phone is going to be officialy released before then. Though I am off contract and would like this phone
