Has anyone tried the following hack to prevent data throttling with success?

Won't work on Verizon they throttle OTA through the switching system, not via the handset software.
Yes, there is. The 3G Wifi Hotspot hack does this.

Essentially, starting up the app changes your identity on the network to be one of a phone with an active hotspot. Cycling your phone's radio changes it back. The TBH hack in their app simply modifies the NVRAM of your phone to always use the non-hotspot identity even after you launch the app.
I don't understand. If I'm just a average rooted Droid X owner and use wifi tether, do I need to do any of this? I don't want Verizon getting upset with me for using too much data![]()
verizon does NOT throttle. unless you are on cricket, there is no need to do this on an X.
^ive used over 5g and one month over 7g and never heard a word out of them. (just to correct your statement). never got a "wifi fee"Well, from what I've read over the past year is that VZW probably won't zing you for using 5GB or less per month. More than that are you are asking for unwanted attention and getting slapped with a wi-fi hotspot monthly fee.

the day they do say something, ill pay my way out of contract and switch to land line internet.
those are the terms of MY contract. unlimited means unlimited.
i say where MY money goes. if they dont like what i do then i dont need their services; problem solved.
thats what im saying....its a free market and im free to take my money somewhere else....so they (carriers) can cry and impose this or that....doesnt bother me; somebody else will be glad to make the money.I use about 16 gigs a month (no I don't tether at all) and I haven't noticed it. I think its stupid to get rid of unlimited for 4g since the competition has unlimited and its cheaper, if they do get rid of unlimited im going to sprint.

i really dont understand people who are stuck with at and t's caps and the iphone with no real freedom....beats me.
if its a infrastructure issue like i always hear about (their system cant handle the load)....then id suggest using some of the profits to build infrastructure...or dont; i dont care....i dont profit from that company. i simply use their services for my wants, if they cant meet those needs; ill find someone who will.
edit: sorry, im sort of off topic with talking about data caps as opposed to throttling....im gonna shut up![]()

I can't say for sure, but I have definitely experienced slower tethering speeds once I start watching lots of videos.
i work for verizon, and am in a high enough position to know these things. The Crickets and T-Mobiles of the world who do throttle, dont hide it. they have no reason to. they WANT people to be aware of their usage, and to know there is a consequence to using too much.
that sucks to hear.it's just the way wireless is going. carriers will have to do it eventually, because wireless speeds are catching up to wired speeds. in the past, wireless speeds were so far behind, that people wouldnt consider dropping their home internet, and just use their phones to tether. now that speeds are so comparable, more and more people are doing it, so the carriers have to combat that. i mean, just look. in this thread alone there is someone who claims to use 16GB a month. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but previous to 3G, carriers NEVER had to worry about customers doing that.
Now, sprint and T-Mo may still be offering unlimited 4G (T-Mo does throttle at 5), but it's not because they have a more stout infrastructure, it's because they have less than half the users on their networks. Verizon has nearly 95M customers, and they are eventually going to have to be proactive in making sure their network doesnt get bogged down by too many data hogs.
am i saying i'm happy to know that unlimited data will eventually disappear? no. do i understand it? yes.
So everyone over at XDA that is touting that this works on DroidX, DINC, and other phones are on some fairy dust, having mass hallucinations? With benchmarks to boot?
