All Things Froyo

And if you believe a word of the post about 2.2, you're a fool. This is the same garbage they've been posting all along. Samsuck doesn't give a rats ass about the 10M people who bought the Galaxy S.

well the 10 million people arent just in the states,, other places have 2.2,, all galaxy s phones in canada have 2.2 but the captivate,,, so they do care about some,, just not all

Yep...this is absolutely no news. Samsung have been saying this same stuff for months via twitter.

It's almost like Samsung paid softpedia to put that out and forum accounts to post it.

I have to disagree. This most definitely is news. Samsung hasn't said ANYTHING about Froyo for the U.S. up until now. Everything you think you heard is speculation. This seems to be concrete news.

On another note, what is Kies Air? I opened Mini and had no update.

I beg to differ, they have been spewing this crap since the phone was released. This is a post from Samsung Mobile US's Twitter site from November 11th.

@avongauss Aaron, we are working on Froyo update for our US Galaxy S phones. It will be available this year. 3:22 PM Nov 11th, 2010 via HootSuite in reply to AVonGauss

EDIT: Just in case you don't believe me, here are a couple more:

@mutiny32 as mentioned. that tweet was from UK counterparts. In the USA we are working with carrier partners to release Froyo this year. Thursday, October 21, 2010 2:39:04 PM via HootSuite in reply to Mutiny32

@bigmerf we will be releasing Android 2.2 on our US Galaxy S phones this year. Thursday, October 21, 2010 10:20:05 AM via HootSuite in reply to BiGMERF

Yep Samsung did promise froyo in 2010 when they released the phone last summer.

So this is their first slip from their official schedule for the USA models.

Let's keep the radar up for any announcements coming in a few days - CES kicks off on Jan 6.

Sure hope this gets put to rest for all you Samsung Galaxy S-type users - as of right now, there are 4 million of you in North America!!

Love how the first bit of actual news pertaining to froyo is buried on page 8 of some nasty jumbled combined beast of a topic that looks like my christmas light collection every fall when it is time to decorate.

At any given moment, there are 100 posters for every staff member.

When new threads are posted, the tool warns - is what you're posting related to this?

Convinced their post is unique, people proceed. Everyone answers the 4 new threads that day rather than just hitting the report button.

Eventually the front page will overfill from this hogging and new users can find nothing else relevant to them.

Of over 300,000 registered users, over 60,000 of you will be posting actively within a week or so.

Users can work together and with staff - or chaotically until we step in and then complain. Either way results in a forum where all issues get equal time on the front page.

I left the latest thread alone until it was asserted that this was not news.

If you want to see the latest word on a long subject, there is a last page link - you really don't have to read every post from page 1, but you can.

When this problem is truly solved, standard procedure will be to lock this thread and sticky an announcement thread. Because that will be news, the first two pages of this forum will flood for hours, we'll struggle to keep up by merging those into the announcement thread so new users can find things, and you can come back and tell us what a lousy volunteer job we're doing.

And sadly we had to learn the hard way that creating a subforum for this sort of thing solved nothing: everyone continued to post their front-page news that had to be moved into the subforum - because it was quickly learned that in a chaotic subforum, your version of the news could get bumped and new competing threads started until flame wars broke out.

PS - those subscribed/posting figures - for every one of you, there are 10 additional lurkers looking for the news and help - about 5,000 will sign up within less than the next 10 days and post their first question. It might even be on topics not related to froyo or gps.

I was told this yesterday. They said they ha ve updated previous customers phones to 2.2. Anyone else know about this? Thanks

Not available here as of yet. Where are you from? I'd be interested to see where they're starting to roll out the update (assuming the AT&T sales rep wasn't just a moron and inadvertently lying to you).

I am from Mass. THey seemed very friendly and honest. I was on the phone with AT&T for over an hour in the store because of upgrade eligibility error on AT&T's part. The salespeople were not your regular salespeople. They were down to earth and as I can tell genuinely honest. One of them even made a call to another employee who has the Captivate to confirm it has 2.2 from OTA. I listened to the whole call and warned I only wanted the phone if it updates to 2.2 in store.

Easy does it, no one's on you.

There's more than one type of store where you can buy this phone - we're interested in which one or which kind - you know, like - Best Buy, AT&T Store, etc.

I'm confused - you posted before that you got your phone at the beginning of November.

Dumping everything into one thread is like placing two piles of clutter into one pile of clutter. Still clutter and takes longer to look through.

It is like sitting at a table with multiple conversations going on at the same time.

Why not add another sub forum for official updates?
