The BIG 2.1 Thread

And this is something that is puzzling me. It could be that I've just missed it before, so someone feel free to correct me, but... was there ever a GPS symbol on the camera screen before? There is now.

It's there in 2.01 if GPS is on and Store Location is on, from what I see.

Yea I've messed with metamorph before, I rarely go into the app drawer though so I will give BC a shot for now. Thanks for offering the help, I up repped you :)

Damn there really is a town called South China in Maine, I thought it was a joke or something.

lol there is a town in Maine called "China" too. Whenever I put my location on forums at "China, ME", everyone thinks I wrote China and Me. creates some confusion, that is for sure.

Thanks for the up rep. If you need any help with anything, let me know. I have a lot of time on my hands. lol.

It's cool, I'm pretty well versed in Android and ADB so I don't have much trouble learning new things but if I get stuck I'll let you know.

Any noticeable improvements/upgrades with Exchange e-mail? For example, moving e-mails to folders, signatures, built-in GAL?

You probably know this already but they have a fix for paid apps. It was a simple build.prop file that needed to be edited.

Does anyone know if the build.prop fix corrected the problem with WeatherBug Elite not showing up? Not wanted to update if it is still not working.

It absolutely did. WB Elite is one of the programs I was referring to that I use every night and cannot easily do without.

As far as I can tell, the build.prop fix took care of every DRM app issue.

How do you apply that one fade?? Oh and How in the heck to my 3rd party apps like handcent lights work shortly after a reboot and not immediately.

Got to be something Im doing.

To answer your first question, here is a brief writeup. If your phone is rooted and you already have 2.1 installed, then I will assume you already have a reasonably decent handle on what you are doing. Like anything else, though, you can brick your phone.

Warning: After you do this, your personal information will be wiped. You will have to log back in and re-download all of your apps again.

First, download the build.prop file. Save it/move it to your sdk. (Usually /android/tools)

open your console and cd to your tools folder. (Make sure your phone is connected and in debug.)

type the following:

adb push build.prop /system

Reboot your phone into recovery (power + x) and select "Wipe data/factory restore).

After that, you are done. Redownload all of your apps and have fun.

To answer your second question, I have no idea. You are apparently further ahead than I am. I don't use handcent, I use ChompSMS, and the LED simply does not work with it.

I did find, however, that "Missed Call" works flawlessly with it. I just shut off all of the notifications from all of my apps and use Missed Call for everything.

Just came across a hands-on with the N1 from CNET.

So, after reading this I was wondering, how many of the improvements that are stated in the article do you guys think are do to 2.1, and not necessarily the upgraded processor and hardware of the N1?

Good question. Whatever the answer is, man does this guy hate the droid.

He even says the Nexus One is 2x as fast in some cases, but its only Slightly faster than the 3gs. So the 3gs is apparently almost 2x as fast as the droid. Least that's my logic.

I agree, I was in a hurry to get out of work but I was going to mention this as well. Every comparison between the 3GS and Droid that I have read has said the Droid is faster. So,who knows? The phone will be out soon enough.

OT, I am typing this from my Droid and the keyboard is REALLY lagging, and the browser is super choppy. Is that the norm since 2.0.1? It's really bad!

Fadelight, It worked perfect bro. Got my other apps back now.

Thanks!

No problem... glad I could help!

OFFICIAL NEWS - The problem with the keyboard lights has been fixed.

(If anyone else has an easier way, let me know. This is just how I did it.)

As always - Proceed at your own risk.

libhw.zip

Most people suggest taking steps to back up your phone, but lets face it... at this point in the game, anyone who would be doing this has probably got everything backed up with Nandroid anyway, so I am just going to skip it.

First, plug your phone into your PC and mount the SD card. Extract contents of the zip folder to the root of your SD card. (Not inside the folder... each file individually.) Unmount the card. (Make sure your phone is plugged in and in debug mode)

Open a command window, switch to adb shell

Here are the commands to type out as follows:

su

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

busybox cp -R /sdcard/gralloc.default.so /system/lib/hw

busybox cp -R /sdcard/gralloc.omap3.so /system/lib/hw

busybox cp -R /sdcard/lights.sholes.so /system/lib/hw

busybox cp -R /sdcard/overlay.omap3.so /system/lib/hw

busybox cp -R /sdcard/sensors.sholes.so /system/lib/hw

cd /system/lib/hw

chmod 644 gralloc.default.so

chmod 644 gralloc.omap3.so

chmod 644 lights.sholes.so

chmod 644 overlay.omap3.so

chmod 644 sensors.sholes.so

sync

reboot

The ZIP was provided by Greek35T at Alldroid. All thanks go to him.

and of course, I can't make it work.

:(

when I get to the chmod part it says read only??

Not sure why it would let you copy everything over but then give you that message when you try to chmod. Try this again:

su

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

After that, try to go through and chmod the files again. Hopefully it will work.

Fade, I did this without error. Is the keyboard suppose to light when you open it up or???

Yes, it is. It worked flawlessly on mine, but I guess a couple of the guys on alldroid are having issues with it still not working.

Try a couple of different things when you get the chance. Try unlocking the phone, then sliding the keyboard. After that, try just sliding the keyboard out without waking your phone up first. Let me know how it goes. If you still aren't having any luck, or if it is doing something funky, then I will take some time today to see what I can figure out and hopefully get you up and going.

One thing I have noticed since applying the keyboard light fix. If my phone is locked, when I open the keyboard it unlocks. Don't believe was the behavior with 2.0.1.
