Motorola Droid Bionic - Replacing Droid X?!?!

+1 like this guy said what more do you really want? I mean how much more is the use of a custom kernal going to give you over a custom RoM. I'm sure there are a few advantages but not to the point of where people should be jumping ship and bashing Motorola because of the locked bootloader. I would almost bet some people just hear the words "locked bootloader" and automatically think " well pi$$ i'm not using moto"...but really not knowing exactly what it means.

Ok, so can you put Vanilla Android on an X? Can you put a ROM with Sense on an X? Can you put any other UI other than Blurr?

and what would you gain by doing that? You can put custom Roms on it, If you want Sense UI then why wouldn't you just buy an HTC product. Thats kind of like someone walking in a Ford dealership and saying i want a Chevy but i'm going to buy this Ford oh btw can you put a Chevy motor in it for me....Some of the custom roms out for the X get rid of a lot of the Blurr. Have you used an X with a custom Rom on it? Apex for one has done a really nice job of cleaning it up.

cyanogen rom ? I don't care about it being cyanogen. There are great roms and themes out there for the Droid X right now.

I am not saying there are not, I really enjoyed my Droid x, great phone. It has done a lot more than most expected it terms of custom roms. But still it won't have the amount of roms as the Droid or the Incredible.

Still doesn't mean it isn't awesome and satisfies most.

No I have never used an X period. I am a long time HTC user. The reason I would go with a Motorola is hardware only as I have yet to hear somebody that likes blurr UI.

Why does it matter why he wants to do that? A lot of people like Sense, also right now people are liking the dual core processor instead of what HTC has right now. I understand why someone would want this phone.

It looks like a complete beast.

Back to the question, as far as I know it is pretty hard to get a Sense rom working. Depending on the bootloader it might not have a true AOSP Rom, Stock android. But like some have said there are roms on the Droid X that are pretty close and run great.

Totally agree with that, I personally don't care for HTC's build. Motorola phones to be are great hardware wise, don't care for blur myself, granted I don't think it is horrible either.

well there are a lot of people that don't like Blurr. Personally even when i was stock i was fine with it. I wouldn't say i loved it but it definitely wasn't bad enough for me to whine about. With the addition of a custom rom it was much better. Also i just noticed Droidlife has some new pics of the bionic up now and i have to say it looks a little thick.

also i know this isn't the forum but wow i'm excited about that Moto tablet.

i see the principal behind having sense on a moto, you want to try and get the best of both worlds but at the end of the day it comes down to picking between good hardware or software...yeah i could see where it would cause issues lol

Yeah that tablet looks awesome. Agreed I don't think blur was horrible, man it is so much better than Touchwiz, Droid X out of the box is so much better than the Fascinate.

agreed. At least they're heading in the right direction i guess.

Yeah i'm about 80% positive on wanting that tablet. droid life just updated some info on it as well.

So everyone is talking about the Atrix, but I would rather have the bigger screen. Both should be nice.

Anyone have any idea why the Bionic doesn't look to be running the same software as the Atrix? You can definitely see blur on the Atrix, but it seems to be an updated version running on the Bionic.

Alright, no big deal that the atrix has 1gb of ram and the bionic only has 512mb. It will be enough AND the atrix DOES NOT have 4G LTE, and 8mp camera, a 1.3m front facing camera, and a 4.3 inch screen, so I am switching AT&T which i am on now, for the bionic on verizon. I don't want the atrix. The 512mb of ram is just a little set back. :)

a good point was made over in the X forums. This bad boy has a Nvidia chip not a Texas Instruments chip. Way back when all the fuss about the e-fuse was being made it was mentioned that TI most likely had a big say in the bootloader being locked. New Company might mean we could get some unlocked goodness. This is just an idea, lets pray for the best

It does look thick. But then again, I have nothing to compare it to right now. If it's as thick as the Thunderbolt/Evo I'll be ok with that. Blur actually looks decent for once. I wish they would have gone into the widgets.

Yeah I heard this early as well, we can only hope.

i just dont understand why they couldn't have given the bionic that extra 512 mb of ram..what could it have hurt...

you'll care when 2.4 comes out and Moto decides to not release it for the DX.... or whatever version they drop support for. at the moment, because of the locked bootloader, we can only have custom roms for the current version released by Moto

I tend to agree. I am only familiar with HTC. How are Sammy and LG. Do they have locked bootloaders?

At this point I really like the hardware specs of the Motorola and presumable the Sammy and LG. I like the software of the HTC. I would like to combine the best of hardware + software for my device. From what I understand the Sammy software isn't that good and they are slow at releasing updates. If the bootloader can be unlocked on the Sammy then that wouldn't be an issue.

The last Sammy *edit* came with a child-lock bootloader that took less than a day to crack, while Moto bootloaders are locked up like Fort Knox.** We (Fascinate crowd) have custom kernels and even AOSP available now thanks to an excellent group of developers. Being able to upgrade the kernel is a big deal, as this allows a lot of behind the scenes performance improvements.

Although the Fascinate runs the best 2.1 Eclair of any phone, the unlocked bootloader has not yet got us to Froyo because Sammy sourcecode is crap. Motorolas definitely see updates sooner, but IMO the locked bootloader (inability to install custom kernel) is still not worth it.

Lets hope the bionic bootloader is unlocked.

Wow ok. Will we know if the Bionic's bootloader is unlocked prior to release or is thing something that will come out when developers get a hold of it after the release?

Also, any idea on LG. Bootloader locked? Source code any good?
