Root ROM Manager: cannot backup

bgrutter

Android Enthusiast
I've encountered a problem with ROM Manager.

If I click on "Backup Current ROM", I get to pick and name and it brings me to the Fastboot screen. I have the option to click on Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, or Power Down.

I then click on Bootloader and I get the following options: Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, Simlock, or Factory Reset.

Obviously, Bootloader and Fastboot just bounce me back and forth. Recovery does nothing, and I have no interest in the rest of the options.

This is the same thing that happens if I click "Reboot into Recovery".

Essentially, it seems like I'm unable to use the Clockworkmod Recovery. I know for certain I still have root, so that's not the issue. Also, as of 2 days ago, my Titanium Backup was still functioning normally.

Anyway, any ideas what I might be missing? Thanks in advance.

Once again, I've solved my own problem. I just opened ROM Manager and ran the "Fix Permissions" function. After a few minutes of running scripts, I re-booted my phone. I also Flashed my Clockworkmod Recovery; however, the version remained the same, which makes me think that was just for reassurance. In other words, I believe the "Fix Permissions" function was the real trick.

EDIT: According to post #3 by Wayrad (the next post), it was actually the Flashing of ClockworkMod that fixed the problem. Apparently, it doesn't seem to do anything, but is required after some ROM Manager updates.

Hopefully, my posting this will help someone else out in the future that encounters the same issue. If not, at least I've provided myself with a bit of education and a definite Lesson Learned.

Happy New Year, yall.

Yes, after an update ROM Manager often needs to have Clockworkmod Recovery reflashed for no apparent reason. Otherwise you get the symptoms you describe. The other things you tried probably don't have anything to do with it.

Hah, you mean that the one step I took that didn't appear to accomplish ANYTHING, is actually the step that solved my problem? Wow, that's hilarious. I guess I should edit my previous post.

I first encountered the problem when flashing my first ROM. My thread screaming for help is still around here somewhere. :D

Fixed it, thanks. I reflashed the clockworkmod Recovery after update. Just a quick question, its version went back to 2. something...previous was 3.0.0.6....does that sound right?

3.0.0.6 is the current version number of ROM Manager Premium. :)

This is happening again. This time, neither the "Fix Permissions" button nor flashing ClockworkMod Recovery helps at all. Any idea what I might be missing?

I think I would uninstall and then reinstall Rom Manager if you're having that much trouble. Worst case you can always enter recovery from hboot to backup your setup...I'm assuming anyway. If not, you have a bigger problem.

This is really weird. I have tried:
  • Using Rom Manager to access Recovery
  • Using Quik Boot to access Recovery
  • Manually rebooting into Recovery
However, no matter what I do, I get sent flipping back and forth between "Fastboot" and "HBoot". Before I can actually toggle between the HBoot options (Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, Simlock, Factory Reset), a few lines of green text. It's only there for a second, so I can't really read it. However, it seems to say loading some file and then the next line says "No image". There are a total of 9 lines, the last line says "No image or wrong image".

It's almost like my phone isn't rooted. Of course I know it is, I'm running Virtuous along with many root-only apps. Actually, I would say it's like my clockworkmod isn't functioning properly to gain my access to root.

Can someone PLEASE give me some guidance. I'm completely lost.

Well SOAB, it's fixed. Once again, I uninstalled Rom Manager and the Premium Key. I then rebooted my phone; went back to the market and purposefully installed the app first, then the key; then opened Rom Manager; Flashed ClockworkMod; and finally selected to update my Virtuous.

Anyway, sorry for wasting everyone's time. I promise I tried re-installing before I posted, but I guess a more thorough cleaning out of the program was needed. Pretty annoying, if you ask me.

Thanks again for reading about my problems.

Glad you're back to snuff. Also this is normal:

What you're seeing is a mechanism built into the bootloader we can use to load an IMG file from the SD card. If you were to place a PB31IMG (zip) file onto the card, it will be auto recognized by way of the scan you noticed and can be loaded to restore or replace hboot, the radio or even a full system IMG.
