Make a restore point (non-root)?

So, I have my phone exactly like I want it now (apps, themes, settings etc.). I was wandering if there is a (non-root) way to make a restore point on my phone. Just in case something bad happens, it would be nice to have a restore file that I can keep on my PC to restore my phone to today's state.

What are my options? Thanks.

As far as I know there is no way to create a restore point (i.e. nandroid backup) without root.

Depends on what you mean by "restore point" here. If you mean a restore point like in Windows that you could use to restore all data after a crash, I have no idea.

But if you mean just to restore all of your pages to just the way you have it set up as far as wallpaper, arrangement of widgets and apps, the YES, there is a way. I back mine up often if I change or tweak something.

Go to menu>scenes. At the bottom should be a list of pre-made HTC scenes. At the top, make sure "Current (unsaved)" is selected, then press Save at the bottom and re-name if you wish (I left mine with the default that came up, "Custom1"). Once your current scene is saved, you can restore back to that set-up any time by going to menu>scenes, and then selecting your saved custom scene.

Once in a while I will change something and need to complete a new "restore point". I just repeat the above steps, again naming the scene "Custom1". Since CUSTOM1 already exists, it asks if I want to replace the old one. Select yes and now your new layout is saved.

Again, this only backs up your page layout options, not data. I hope this is what you are talking about, if not, sorry for wasting your time!

Not really, but this is better than nothing, right? I was hoping for a true restore point (apps, data, settings, themes, etc), just in case my phone needed a clean wipe.

Creating a scene like you described above ... does this also remember 3rd party widgets, and custom icon images and modified icon text changed through apps like Folder Organizer? Or does it just remember HTC widgets?

Try Mybackup Pro in the market. It's 5 bucks but it's worth it. They have a free 30 day trial version too but it only lets you restore on the same device so you wont be able to restore the backup if you had to get a replacement phone.

Creating a scene like you described above ... does this also remember 3rd party widgets, and custom icon images and modified icon text changed through apps like Folder Organizer? Or does it just remember HTC widgets?

I don't believe the phone stores these custom themes on the sdcard or internal storage so if you had to do a factory reset these would be lost. If you use LauncherPro it usaves the settings to the sdcard though widgets are lost as is anything stored in internal memory (not the same as internal storage). MyBackup Pro allows for some saving of data such as phone and sms logs and playlists and you can backup apps but the phone does that through Google anyways. That is if you activated that feature when you first setup the phone. Though Google isn't selective and tends to restore all the apps that it has stored and it does it automatically as you activate the phone after a reset and reactivate your Google account.

For what you want I would just root the phone. You don't need to install a custom ROM you can just leave it as is and do a nandroid backup and you have your restore point. All root does is give you access to the system files that normally would be hidden.
