Why did they not give the Bionic Webtop?

Really Motorola what were you thinking? You announce a killer device with a dual core, 1 GB RAM and Webtop, and then you announce basically the same device but with half as much RAM and no webtop. The only thing the Bionic has that is better than the Atrix is 4G LTE.

Exactly! I am very angry about that! It may be the reason I don't get it, I just want the 1GB RAM

well if all these phones are using 4g and the phone will be compatible with either gsm or cdma 4g couldnt you just buy the atrix unlock it then use it for verizon?

I have heard LTE will have sim but for the most part I would imagine you will be on verizon's 3g network in most area's until later on therefore I don't see these phones being sim only for quite some time.

I would assume that they would still be sim though, they would have the feature and you would still require the sim, but doesn't have to mean you would utilize it until 4g was in your area though.

whats webtop? and i thought it had 512 RAM?
Watch this. And yes the Bionic only has 512 RAM. The Atrix has 1 GB.

No as the I won't be only to exclusively use LTE and the Atrix isn't LTE. It is HPSA+ which Verizon does not use.
no their 4G and 3G towers are both different. I doubt there is a SIM card either..
For 3G, Verizon uses CDMA, while ATT uses GSM. As of now, all of ATT's 4G phones are HPSA+(beefed up GSM), while Verizon uses LTE for 4G.
lte uses a sim card but I was just wondering because i know some of the LTE also have the ability to be used on hspa+ i saw somewhere
LTE and HPSA+ are who completely different things.

Even if you could use the atrix with Verizon's LTE, whose voice network would you be on? Trust me Verizon and AT&T will find a way to make their LTE networks incompatible.

total bummer, I am hoping some of phone released this year will have this feature or some other company mimics the webtop.

good question! while your asking, what about the 1gb ram, fingerprint reader. i bet it has something to do with apple. not wanting to be outshone.

Cool concept, but not something I care about this time around. The Bionic will be far enough beyond my Original Droid. If WebTop becomes a hit, I'm sure Verizon will have it on many phones by the time my Bionic contract is up.

Wow, that's simply amazing. Now, I'm completely jealous of the Atrix. Thanks for the find.

Now that leaves the question, is this something that may eventually come to the Bionic and/or is there anyway a dev could port these features once rooted (though, understandably, would need a dock, which I dunno how that'd work).

Webtop is a resource HOG. 1gb ram with Weptop and a 512mb without is on par with each other for performance (perhaps the 512mb without is better). This is new territory and further fragments Android in regards to app dev.

Webtop seems like eye candy and not really needed as many people have laptops already. Its nice they are making an all in one device. Will look in to dual core phones as my contract is up next year.

I would guess that ATT knew about the iphone moving to Verizon and backed a truck load of money up at Motos door and asked them to give them something as an exclusive for a time period. I see webtob as a useless feature. And if it is shown that the extra ram is just there for that then we are good. I can't see an app needing more than 512mb at this point. I am sure that will change but how quick.

I don't see an app needing 512Mb of RAM anytime soon. Remember that Half Life 2 one of the greatest video games ever requires only like 756Mb of RAM. And good luck anyone who wants to port the source engine to Android. I cincerily wish you good luck with that.

I wouldn't go so far as to say webtop is useless. It could essentially replace laptops if it advances properly. With phones advancing so quickly and becoming nearly as powerful as a laptop, being able to turn your phone INTO a laptop is one hell of a feature. No more carrying around 5-10 lbs of equipment and spending $900+ on good equipment. Instead, just have your phone and the shell of a laptop, and you instantly have a full linux OS booting up, as well as control of your phone simultaneously. Actually, this may not necessarily kill off laptops altogether (probably went too far on that statement), but it definitely will be a great choice to have for those who do not need powerhouse systems. It would definitely destroy the pointless netbooks.

I agree with this. While it may never take off, it's another viable option. I have one desktop in a house of 5 people, computer time is at a premium. The ability to surf the web from my bedroom tv via a phone would be a valuable resource. And I could also use this at work, where I'm there for 24 hours at a time, and we have one computer to share.

Is this something I need? No. I have a PS3 and a Droid at my disposal, which takes care of most of my web browsing needs. But it would be a great resource to have another internet option. I'd love to make a case for buying a Motorola Xoom, but I can't justify the purchase at the rumored price, nor afford an extra monthly bill. To have such a powerful internet option incorporated into my existing monthly plan would be a huge benefit.

Webtop as it is on the Atrix really wouldn't do anything for me personally. It seems more for people who travel alot, but don't have access to their own laptop. Which right now ain't alot of people. Can it reaplce a laptop? I guess if you don't need that much power and have enough storage space for your movies and music and shell out the extra $150 for the laptop dock (though how big is the screen with that?).
Seems Webtop is a 1st gen foray into something that might become highly useful later on, though it will probably take longer then you'll have your Atrix for.
Also I'm pretty sure at no one time does the Atrix use 1gb ram. I think its 512 for the phone, 512 for the webtop. Least from what I've seen people say.

Maybe they want to see if this webtop is a hit or not first, before deciding to produce them for more phones.

I bet the real reason the Bionic doesn't have it is because VZW would rather you buy a mobile broadband adapter and pay an extra monthly fee and just use your laptop / netbook instead of turning your phone into one.
