Iphone 4 32gig VS Desire HD

My brother has an iPhone 4 and my friend has the DHD. They let me use it to test out all the functions, since I am deciding on the new phone. In the end I chose the DHD. For me, its simply the better choice.

The battery is better on the DHD, no tweeking invovled So I don't really know why they say the battery sucks on the it.

It is a shame that the DHD's battery doesn't give the user a good first impression. I don't think I quite managed a full day to start with and I understand the frustration of those where the battery life has continued to let them down. But for every time someone mentions that the battery is crap it seems there has to be someone saying search the forums to solve your problem.

I used Steps 8-12 of this method for 'calibrating' the battery (after looking at the first link on the webpage):
Battery Calibration | Hemorrdroids.net
I'm sure this is linked on the forum elsewhere (probably more than one place!) and there are topics devoted to this so I won't say much more than it's worked for me.

Personally, I love the huge screen and that I'm always aware that my phone is in my pocket. I've seen that people have trouble with the keyboards on touchscreens (both HTC and Apple coming up with some funny/ridiculous guesses to what you wanted to type), but it's the stigma of not being able to physically feel the individual buttons. I've managed to get Swype for my DHD and have found it surprisingly intuitive to use (and robust given it's only a beta version). This is definitely a plus for Android's flexibility.

The way I see it, Apple products show a pride in the art of design that is very rigid. I admire the creativity and innovation of each new product, but not that you can't have any different (or that there's a premium for it). I enjoyed personalising my home screens and the ease with which I can change little things on a whim. I must admit that I haven't owned an iPhone before, so I can't make any specific comments.

I agree with john_g that it's a personal choice for what you prefer. I might be happy with an iPhone, but I'm happier with my DHD. And no, there shouldn't be any surprise at the bias towards the DHD on this thread :P

DHD FTW >.<

We actually have a little test when my brother and friend got their phones. After charging the full battery, they just left the phone on standby until it died. The DHD last 5 hours and 23 mins more than the iPhone 4. Then charged it again, and call one another until it dies. The DHD last 1 hour and 8mins more than the iPhone 4.

Finally I sold my DHD and unfortunately must admit for myself Android has much too way to go in terms of application world compared to IOS.

I will definetely buy Iphone 4 and will not bother with Android for a very long time.

what types of apps do u think were lacking in the androidmarket compared to apples?

I am in Turkey and there are many apps in Turkish which do not exist in Android world but If we talk globally several games are limited in Android.

For games i.e. I am a Guitar Rock Tour fan for IOS, but this is not in Android. Guitar hero in android is like a child game, below is the difference between IOS and Android for Guitar Hero.

Another apps that I would not find is AirVideo which streams mkv, avi etc.. lots of media files on wi-fi with subtitle support.

Another game review to mention is Ninjump, In android it's only classic version, in IOS there are 3 different version in one game.

I mean maybe this is a result of habit that having an Iphone for a long time but it's for sure developers prefer IOS at first compared to Android platform.

Android :

ok so all your examples are pretty specific there, why if these 3 apps are ones you used most why did u get an android before researching whether android made these or apps like them.

I miss stickgolf app on iphone but can live without it, you cant say apple beats dhd just because of a few apps

I think youll find there really is not much difference between the quality of apps, except a small percentage of games.

Surely the best phone is the one that does what you need in a way that you feel comfortable with? If, on the other hand, you are looking for a phone that does fancy things in a way that you will try to impress your friends with, then I'd suggest you are less interested in the phone as a tool and more into status gadgetry... a great way to spend loads of money on an endless quest for next month's bleeding-edge must-have gizmo.

I chose the Desire HD because it best met my requirements. A friend was persuaded to upgrade to a touch-screen phone (which one is irrelevant) but she couldn't get on with either its size or the touch-screen keyboard. She uses her phone for calling and texting, as well as taking occasional pictures and videos if her real camera isn't to hand. Having had the touch-screen phone slip out of her grasp into her mug of coffee (because it was too big for her hands), I suggested maybe the candy-bar format Blackberry might suit her better - largely because she actually prefers a traditional phone keypad rather than a full QWERTY keyboard. It's not a phone I'd have chosen for myself, but she is very pleased with it.

Horses for courses! If you are pleased with your phone, then just enjoy it - there is no single 'best' phone.

Finally some sense in a really tedious thread. Choose a phone that works for you. Personally I love my DHD and have nothing either for or against either Android or IOS. I've been a nokia user for years, so you can imagine my pleasure at using Android!

Why do people hate iTunes soo much?

just plug in iPhone and then iTunes auto syncs, just drag and drop the file into iTunes and it will auto sync again. Much easier than drag and drop to SD card.

DUDE. THE IPHONE.

Listen who told you ITUNES is better than COPY/CUT and PASTE.. Oh my guess Stevey :D, yup he told you to use ITUNES to copy music, Itunes to sync music, go through 15 min of crap to make a ringtone work in IP, OF COURSE holding the phone , etc.

Seriously, Bigger Screen + Low Capacity Battery = Bad Ass Battery life. so don't buy one.
i like the customisation i can do to android without rooting and jail breaking. With iPhone jail breaking brings great possibilities. and so does rooting but i would prefer stock till my warranty gets over..
Yup Iphone got the first of everything, but listen Touch Screen has way longer history than IP
Heard GETJAR or some sites like that, those gave you apps and games (shitty quality) but it was already there.
Heard MULTITASKING my nokia n-gage had it.

and accelerometers and gyroscope are new entry. Iphone looks good and everybody likes simplicity thats the key to Iphone. Android is developing fast each day, but htc, moto etc have customised the phone to an extent that android is buried underneath it.

To guy who posted the battery changing in IP4, great video if only if it did not have the lengthy WARNING!!! in it.

And to the guy who wanted his smart ass phone to do everything. WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD.

...i've been a sony user for years, and almost 2 years ago the price of my sony w995 was the same as my dhd i bought 3 weeks ago. sounds like rags to riches for me having an android for almost the same price! (my sony came with an extra china battery though...:D) still love my sony but i have a new 'love' now...:D
...having the freedom now to customize each page screens with the things i want/need most. do this do that, ringtones in this, out that. my music and picture folders changes like clockwork everyday---so yes, all that in one sitting in a few minutes in front of a pc or a 'mac'. i just can't imagine the things i can do with my next htc in the next couple of years! hahaha! who would need the same smartphone more than 2- 3 years?

...yes joshfishkins like you, i personally love my dhd too. and some people can't and perhaps will never imagine the pleasure of using an android!:)

These 3 apps only the first ones that came to my mind and yes that's my bad because I did not make my research enough. I did not say apple beats dhd I told apple apps beat android and that's for sure right no, any logical mind should not deny it.

Lol r u nuts? There is no comparison between the two phones, the desire HD munches the iphone in every departement bar one and that is the app store which for the time being has superior apps, save that the iPhone is on its arse, CPU my dhd is at 1.53ghz under volted, the iPhone I believe is an optimised 750mhz which is less than half, camera on dhd when set up properly is epic, my battery life lasts over 2 days with mid usage. The roms coming to the dhd are superb, the screen on the dhd is superb, the speaker is the only thing I dont like on the dhd, other than that i have no complaints. Dhd all day, there is no competition, IMHO thr desire hd is the best phone on the market at this time.

I have to agree with this, Had my DHD for about 2 months now, Couple of mates have iPhone 4, If i get it out in the pub they seem to get an uncomfortable look on their face and put their iPhones back in their pocket, Feels good.

There is a HUGE difference in quality of apps. iPhone has at least 75,000 by far better quality apps. Erm small percentage? iPhone has 1000's of games that still aren't on Android. Cut The Rope, Bad Company 2, COD Zombies, Bejewled 2, The Simpsons, Super Monkey Ball, Final Fantasy, Family Guy, Jenga, Guitar Hero, Metal Gear Solid should I keep carrying on??

I HATE the fact everyone has iPhones now. I wish Apple never dropped the price. I had original iPhone and no one back then really had it, it felt cool as it was greatly overpriced.

Samsung Galaxy S is the best Android. I can seem to use apps that require root on my stock Android Froyo.

like i said if your a gamer (i'm not) go get an iPhone. I had one for 2 years and hardly ever bought games and when i did like the family guy game it was so crap i got bored of it. If i want to play games ill go on my xbox. What i find strange though is you call yourself the android but all the posts you leave on here are rather derogatory making you look like an apple fanboy which is rather odd seeing as though you are on an android forum??

I 100% agree with you, I bought the sims 3 on my android and the game is average, if you want games you need to jump on the ps3/xbox. there is no much fun in games on a phone

^I can't carry a PS3 everywhere with me though. PSP is dead and DS sucks. Games are fun on phones, you just need to play the decent games.

I like Android. Also i meant the new family guy game not the old crappy one.

But the quantity of apps on Android is accelerating much faster than in the App Store (I've heard 10 times as fast) That is important to bear in mind.
