Root AOSP officially available at xda

Yeah wiping cache is another of those best practice things you should do...bit don't* have* to.do

Although its a bit like saying i guess you techically don't have to.wash your hands before.eating...,but its a best.practice. :)
Yeah I'm one to ALWAYS wipe both before flashing :)

Anyhow, I put it on my SF, it runs ridiculously fast for me...but my home button wont work with it, and im getting a bunch of FC's on calendar and other essential apps, as well as my vm counter not clearing, and I re-tried flashing, but with the same results :P so for now, i'm going back to super clean, and toughing it out a little longer ;)

If your talking about aosp the reason you had some of those issues is because you didn't flash gapps after.flashing the rom....thus no home button/calendar problems. :)

Hmmm, I flashed GAPPS after each time I retried. I'll give it another go after the National Championship game tonight :D

Hey Saps, did you renamed TW in root explorer or deleted it?

I think most of us renamed the files. Make sure you have your new launcher properly installed, updated, and set as the default before doing this. I rename the files by adding a ".bak" to the end of it, just in case I ever need to turn something back on because of stability issues. Your phone will likely crash once, then have a bit of a slow reboot, but then you should be good to go. This method has worked for me and others quite well. Once you've renamed the files and confirmed your phone is still happily working along, you should be able to do whatever you need to do with them after that (move/delete). And we have a mostly stock recovery image we can flash back on this phone in Odin if we ever need to. This phone is mighty resilient and hard to kill with just software and being an idiot. It's possible, but the things this phone can recover from have amazed me so far.

On another note, I'm finally starting to get a force close and a random restart here and there. One of my live wallpapers that looks awesome but sips power will say it's not responding and needs to force close, even while it's working just fine!! I still try to wipe the cache and the davlik from time to time, but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick quite as well anymore. Plus, Verizon keeps trying to muscle some big update onto my phone. (not froyo, regrettably.) I'm thinking of going back to the stock image, doing all the silly updates, and then going again with a new kernel or ROM. I do need it to be a tad more stable than AOSP is atm. I've heard good things about geeknik's, but I've liked doing all the setCPU stuff. It sure makes my phone sip battery when the screen is off and when I'm on a mere phone call or text message. I regularly get two days on a charge, and I don't want to lose that.

Any recommendations??

You wiped data/cache flashed the rom....then the gapps...,then the kernel...,then rebooted and had the home button issue?

Are the things not working on that list still, not working? I see it was posted Dec. 30th. No camcorder is a big reason i havent tried it yet. I kinda need that.

Yeah 2.1 aosp is officially dead....when kaos came on board he went eight to 2.2 and about the same time birdman had 2.3 breakthrough....so development moved forward in those directions. :)

2.1 aosp served a good purpose as so much of the fixes and work arounds were necessary for what's to cone next
