Hi guys,

I have my Desire since august and its from telus. Ive debranded it using goldcard and its now running froyo. Im having problem with internal storage ALOT !!! its killing me :(
Ive saw some custom roms, 2.3 roms and much more .. I dont want to go with a stock rom .. I want to try different roms ..
So if you guys can help me root my desire step by step and show me some custom roms for now that would be perfect :) .. i dont mind start with 2.3 also (i know video recording doeant work though it fine) .. and show me how to do App2SD .. :)

Thnx in advance

Is your phone GSM or CDMA? If it's CDMA then you're limited to ROMs you can use and I've not seen a 2.3 ROM for CDMA phones yet

for the rooting I found this link: How To: Root the HTC Desire (Unrevoked Method) | TheUnlockr
and for the custom roms I found this link: How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Desire | TheUnlockr

My questions are:

1) I have a gold card right know, what will happen to it ? do I have to make a new one ? or what happens to my SD card ? will I loose all the information on it ?

2) I read about partitioning the SD card when rooted or before rooting, whats that for ? do I need to do it ?

thnx

Your goldcard is fine, forget about it.

In regards to partition, you need access to custom recovery to partition it.

See the apps2sd+ FAQ linked in my sig for how to and also why to.

I didn't know that. Are other SIM's on board?
Well, the data that identify the subscriber to the network are in a chip on the board - it's not really a SIM as such.

Definately less flexible for the user - you can't change your handset without the network's consent (so no upgrading your phone but sticking with an old tariff which happens to suit you), and you can't just stick your SIM in an old handset if you don't want to risk your shiny new toy on a night out. If you thought SIM-locking the phone was bad...

It's more like the old analogue phones were, if anyone else is old enough to remember them :D

I don't want to start us off here but my first phone was a Motorola MicroTAC, and I still have it boxed. The SIM was the size of a credit card and you could chew the arial in them days. Stupid internals!

I remember signs at motorway services saying "you can use your Rabbitt phone here"

Although i'm sure I shouldnt remember that

rabbit was epic, they only recently took the rabbit sign down from above the whsmiths building on albion place always made me lol.
I had an eccentric mate that used to walk around with his briefcase telephone when analogue was still available.

Up untill 2002 Grenada (my place of origin Carrib) was a full analogue country
nokia were building 8120's for west indies

ha, no way. Cuba are still 2G. i went there a couple of years ago and wondered why I couldnt send an MMS.

I was only a child when Rabbit were about. I think they were Hutchison (who then became Orange)?

I have a Sony Z5, and if you put an O2 SIM in it it displays CELLNET. Very cool if you meet someone who doesn't remember BT's best effort. I like to pretend I'm a undercover governmental operative with access to a special cellular network, usually carrying a big black bin liner full of top secret laundry.

Yup, that's right. Can't remember whether Rabbit subscribers got any special deal from Orange though.

I have a soft spot for my old "Orange Nokia", as one of the few phones that actually exceeded specification: they claimed standby time up to 18 hours, but it could actually go a few hours beyond that if you were in a good signal area, didn't move around too much and didn't make any calls. Single-band, calls and SMS, choice of 5 ringtones, and an antenna that CH could have chewed - what more could you want from a phone?
