Root Strange MIUI Problem

InfernalByte

Android Expert
Around Christmas time I tried to flash MIUI 12.18, with no success, I then emulated other peoples set ups to get it running and still no luck, yet Cyanogen restores and runs faithfully without a problem. I contact Eveek merely to tell him of the issue and he tells me that he is running the same set up as myself with no issues and goes on to say that 12.18 is so stable that he is not planning on any future updates unless or until there is a major MIUI overhaul.

Then came the shenanigans of an SD card corruption a couple of days back, which meant flashing an RUU, re-rooting and then another S-Off, N1Table.

So, I now have a clean bed and I'm thinkin' lets give MIUI another go, but even after new download a manual wipe, it still will not run, this time stalling at the white screen. After 20 mins, I pulled the battery and restored Cyanogen.

Most peculiar.

have you tried the latest one out today/yesterday being 1.1.07?

ive just installed it and runs nice, having said that im not running the n1table

No I haven't. Something fo the midnight hour maybe. I'm cooking a little something re; goldcards right now. I'll be back.

It doesn't fit the N1 table, go back to the normal Desire one. I'm running 1.1.7 now and it's fine

thing is tho eddy, eevek is running it on the n1table and its deodexed too so it should work

:/ if i could be bothered going through the whole uninstall reinstall process i would try it out but i cba

Tis what I thought unless eevek hasn't changed his sigi. I ran 1.1.07 on the N1Table and was getting FC's everywhere, specifically Jonasl.img? Even its own .apk's were force closing! Anyway, I have reflashed the regular BravoSPL and on this table it'll run smooth as the proverbial but it still FC's any app I download from the market! I'm now in the process of restoring my trusted Cyanogen.

As I cba. :)

...................and I' now in big steamin cocka doody booTLOOP!!! Don't tell me I have to RUU? Why aren't I in the pub? Should have gone down the pub. What day is it today?

I did everything to it! Probaly not in the right order.

After bootlooping with all sorts of configurations (N1Table, BravoSPL, custom mtd's), I decided to RUU and test my newly made gold card (with partition), and it didn't work! My old corrupt card was still gold, but I hadn't partitioned that in the mean time and that worked.

While I was at it, I tested my own theory about RUU's and I feel an over ambitious project in the air. The PB99IMG that I used (from Rastaman's drop box) loaded up, checked the CID, and DID NOT make any changes to the phone before asking the user to proceed with the update, can you see where this is going?

Why don’t I try and make a gold card tester? In order to test a gold card all you need do is run a PB99 and make sure you exit right after the CID check. All it needs is a simple piece of code to and just take the yes proceed code option away, making it fail safe.

After that is just a matter of deleting the update coding, reducing it in size.

There are however a few drawbacks;

a). Lack of talent.

b). I don't really want to have to buy another phone, because I'm about to break this one.

c). Are my efforts going to matter, even if I succeed ? Who's going to use it and, the way things move on these days, how long are we going to need gold cards for?

I think its a good free marketable if someone knows a bit of code?

how big is your ext partition?
i dont get any of these force closes but i know if the ext partition is too large then things start going wierd (on most custom roms)

EDIT: just seen your post above

ok, didnt know that good find. alot of people would use it for gold card checking if you are able to do it. or maybe someone with more talent than us can actually knockup a way of testing a gold card within recovery ?

anyway, back to your gold card issue. you didnt flash your new card with the img from the other card did you?
this will not work

Gold card isn't needed to flash a custom ROM anyway so ignore that for now until you get a working custom ROM and then look to remake your gold card from scratch

No I made a new image for my working card and saved it. When my new card arrives I don't think I'll bother making a gold card, I'll just make a disk image and save it. From what Droidzone was saying and what I found last night, partitioning your card degolds it!

Until my new 8Gb class 6 arrives I only have a 1Gb card (class 2), my ext3 was less than 200Mb (to shmall)? Most of my phone is backed up at the moment and I thought as a stop gap measure I'd try apps2sd, which Miui did recognize.

I think I messed up the system partition last night, when the RUU was reflashing it failed to do the system partition first time around.

Is there a difference btween a custm ROM and an RUU or PB99? PB99's need a goldcard.

EDIT: I got there.

PB99IMG is the same as an RUU but without the Windows front end - so yes a gold card will be needed if flashing ann RUU/PB99IMG different from your original ROM

Custom ROMs don't need a gold card

Last night I was doin thinking about my Miui issue, not helped by the moon may I add, chasing me down the A5! Freaking me out it was!

Now this problem seems to be unique to me so it must be something that I am doin.
Then it hit me about 1:15am after the moon had gracelessly conceded defeat; Miui is Cyanogen based, and I‘m flashing from the daddy Cyanogen 6.1.1.

The hypothesis; There is left over Cyanogen code on the device that Miui is able to read it as its own making it freak, giving me the FC’s that no one else is getting?

Has anyone else flashed from Cyanogen (wiped) straight to Miui?

If I was to run a Sence ROM (not Cyanogen based) and then try Miui would I see any difference?

Plausible?

I would agree with you IF doing a wipe didnt clear nearly everything
Miui is not cyanogen based, its AOSP

The only thing i can think of is that for some reason the recovery is not wiping cache and dalvic properly which is paritially stored on sd-ext
what recovery are you using?
have you tried wiping cache and dalvic after doing a normal wipe before flashing?

So your telling me that this is incorrect!

Clockwork 2.5.0.7

No I haven't tryed the extra wipes.

Slightly, but only on restoring things from a backup. I can't see how coming from one ROM to another, so long as you've wiped everything, would have residual information left on it

Oh it happens. Less so on Linux than Windows which doesn't actually wipe anything when you delete! Windows just cuts the dir tree path, making the file appear to disappear, your "deleted" information wont actually be deleted until it gets overwritten. Linux does actually wipe it off but even this can be recovered by specialist software.

What's Deodexed? MY Miui zip file says Deodexed.

I actually believe it is incorrect
that op is no different to me or you, he is not a dev, hes just someone linking information for everyone to be up to date

Im yet to see anything cyanogen on miui

people assume cyanogen is the same as AOSP
there was a point where miui was in talks with cyanogen for some help as miui devs had helped cyanogen with FM Radio etc.
this does not mean MIUI is cyanogen based

Well, maybe we'll agree to disagree on that because I think Miui is Cyanogen based, I have just found a link by eevek himself to that page! At the bottom of the page under his sigi Labelled "MIUI thread" if your interested.

I guess it is important as it is the crux of my hypothesis. Its not so important to me as I'm happy with Cyanogen and as soon as my class6 arrives I'll be buzzin about data2sd, its just that I need to know why Miui wont run. That and why are Samosa's so expensive?

Thing is, unless you want your ego massaging, D2SD isn't really needed. A2SD+ is more than good enough
