Root currently bootlooped, need help fast!

veryyy confused...

Tried a metamorph file. Got bootlooped. battery pulled, got to recovery (holding menu and power button). From recovery I flashed an old backup, I made it before I flashed my first ROM. Worked fine. Got into the phone, no issues.

Went back into Clockwork Recovery, flashed a ROM (gummy jar), and now it's in bootloop. I forgot to clear data/cache. That may be the problem. But now I can't seem to get back to the recovery. I pull the battery, hold menu and power, and nothing. No luck.

Any tips? I'm losing my confidence with this boot loop thing... Hope someone can give a tip?
 
uh oh... just pulled battery again and tried to boot into recovery. I'm getting an icon i've never seen before. I don't like it. It's an Android with a big orange exclamation point in a triangle over him.

please tell me I didn't just brick me phone...

when you get that exclamation mark hit the search key, This is recover mode. If you have the file update.zip and are running the current android build for the DX. scroll down and install update.zip from SD or hopefully you have a nandroid back up. I was bootlooping on a D2 I keept the battery out for 25 minuets and put it back in "BAM" loaded fine. try that first.

I do have a nandroid backup, but I don't see the option to apply it. I just see the update.zip thing (which is just getting aborted, i'm sure there's nothing in it). How do I reload my nandroid backup?

also, just so I know what to try... After 25 minutes when you put your battery back in and it loaded fine, did you load it normally or did you boot into clockwork?

What you are seeing is the regular recovery mode, not the clockworksmod. So at the recovery mode you need to factory reset, flash the clockworksmod, then apply the nandroid backup.

If these things are not working, you can always flash SBF files.

I have a DX, I put gummy on a girls D2 I didn't wipe data, and was bootlooting the gummy boot image I was about to sbf. and I took the battery out after messing with it for a HR. went and ate came back put the battery in and hit power and it booted. your prob sounds similar. oh while i was in recovery I also wiped data befor the battery pull. not sure why gummy was still on it. Id try it without wiping data. This is just my advise, I guarantee nothing.
 
okay. May need some instruction on SBF files. I wiped all data, reformatted everything. It reboots back into a bootloop for gummyjar.

What's my other option?
 
haha now I'm really confused. While typing this, gummyjar was looping. All of the sudden I got to the new to android screen. Went through the steps. Gummyjar is running.

Is that possible? If I did a factory reset, why would it load one of my ROMs? Can I expect this to bootloop again later? Or am I in the clear?

If you reboot the phone and it doesn't bootloop you should be fine.
 
I would say in your case even though Gummy is running, I would go back and do another data/cache wipe and reload your GJ nandroid to make sure nothing is going to go wrong with it. It may be fine for all we know, but I myself wouldn't trust it after what it put you through in the beginning.

Sometimes these things don't exactly act the way you'd think they should. When that happens I prefer to SBF (nothing to be worried about with those letters, I used to be scared too, but now that I've done it a few times it's a walk in the park) back to square one and start over just to make sure everything is running smoothly.

And don't let the bootloops scare you. It's a sign that something is a miss in your phone yes, but it's not a sign that you have to turn your phone in down at Verizon or anything like that. You haven't really lived in this Android life until you've SBF'd. It's a rite of passage of sorts.
 
I am just saying if you want to go the extra mile and SBF for no reason go ahead. The battery pull and wait worked, just see how it runs it can't hurt.

was it looping the whole boot animation? or was it just doing the continuous part of it. After doing a factory reset you can expect a long initial boot time it can seem like forever. Also, I've read that if you can at least make it to the boot animation your system has loaded correctly, but if it loops, a clear data can usually save you. And like Outlaw said, don't be afraid of flashing an sbf. It's not that painful. Especially on linux ;)
And a factory reset only erases the stuff in /data: non-system apps, and other stuff that the ROM can run without.
I wouldn't expect another bootloop. It will bootup faster next time as well.

very true! Was afraid of SBF'ing and finally did it last week (three different times to get to the current .340)

seems a lot easier than I thought it'd be, too...
