Just Curious (Verizon iPhone Feb 3rd &10th)

nklenchik

Android Enthusiast
I'm posting this here just to see if anyone's willing to switch over to the Verizon iPhone, releasing Feb 3rd for existing Verizon customers (pre-oder) and Feb 10th for the other crowd.

Personally, I love my Samsung Fascinate, even though it's STILL on 2.1. I can't get over the notification bar and rooted wireless teathering...it's too much to give up :D

So who's iCurious?

Edit: Before deciding, I thought this might help:

My wife is prolly going to change to the iPhone. She is on WinMo6.5 on a HTC Imagio, so basically anything is an upgrade :p

Yeah give jobs some credit there, no android related peeps can pull that off

Yea but it didnt take that long for me to debloat a much better phone. So that doesn't make me jump up and down to much. But is nice for the common user to not have to deal with crap bloat

Very true, we do need to remind ourselves we are the ultra minority. 90% [my own guess] of phones never see root/jailbreak in apples case

No switch for me. iPhone5 may be a different story....it would start out as a fantasy and quickly turn into a nightmare. At this point, the only nightmares I can tolerate are little green men.

i am gone. i know i dont post much, and i wont be missed, but since the thread of this title is asking if you are you switching....i will answer. :)

i cant stand this phone, and do not feel i should have to root to get a properly working device. i am just tired of playing a cat and mouse waiting game with verizon-samsung-htc-whatever, waiting for the next upgrade, so so the new apps and games will run. looking at some of those new games for the i4 makes me salivate. not sure if any of you remember 7th guest from the 90's, but you can play it on your iphone. awesome game. i was playing around with a friends over christmas...it is so much more polished than any of the android phones i have had (and i had the D1 and the Dinc), hands down.

the problem is, is that the consumer is who will lose. The android OS will eventually lose people to apple becuase of the out-of-the box appeal, and funcionality of the device, leaving less development for the Android OS. the majority of the population is not into pis*ing with thier phone in order to get it the way they want. The Iphone offers that for most people.

just my two cents!

I'm glad that iphone will meet your needs, but to say android is going to lose customers to iphone is funny. Its not like android just came out, and ever since android came out apple has been losing like crazy. This is the main reason for jobs to expand to verizon. He's losing money so he *thinks*this is a way to try to help. I'm not saying that android will ever shit down apples iphone but they are stealing customers more and more every day.

I plan to stay, mainly because there's no go reason to go. Even unrooted, the Fascinate does everything an iPhone can do -- 99% of the apps I use are on both platforms -- so there's no gain in changing. Plus, I would just as soon not having the "curated" world Apple provides.

I have a feeling griswolds53 may have a good point about customers jumping ship, at least on Verizon. The iPhone brand is still better known and better hyped than Android, and a lot of people have the impression that it's "easier" to use.

That said, it wouldn't blow my mind to hear that quite a few people going into Verizon for an iPhone walk about with an Android. The Fascinate and the Droid X both have larger screens that could attract people. I think the Fascinate is a better-looking phone overall, too.

@griswolds53 I hope you took no offense at my post it was nothing bad about you moving over. I don't like iphone myself, but have no problem with people having it. If there were only one kind of phone it would be boring. I just wanted to express my feelings. So if you took it in any bad way I want to apologize in advance :D

LOL wow I wouldn't expect to see this asked here. You couldn't pay me to own anything Apple makes. I'll take my Fascinate and be happy because it's MINE not Steve's.

I can't wait to see what the "new" antenna can do. :p

I will give it a serious look. I play with my Ipod quite a bit because of the games available. It really is a smooth device. I had talked some friends into trying the Captivate and they all went back to the Iphone.

I will have a rooted phone soon since this update isn't 2.2 but that isn't what I was promised. My phone isn't what I was told it would be. So I should get a free upgrade or pay my restocking fee and trade phones even though it has been 3 months. I would jump ship all together if the rest of the family would and Verizon and sammy could kiss it. But I guess I can just tell Samsung to kiss it since I am stuck.

Can anyone tell me if the IPhone has better speaker quality than my FS. If my Nav hooks up (which is VERY seldom) the sound on the speak is HORRIBLE!! I use Nav daily and it has been a huge let down for me!! My compaints about the FS...
1. Nav sucks bad.
2. Sound sucks bad on youtube/Nav
3. Cant ever turn screen on/off with out turning the ringer volume down!
It seems to me that we have been left out in the cold thus far. The ONLY reason I have kept the devise is due to the camera/video. It is awesome and I dont know if the IPhone can touch the FS in the area. I dont know a ton about the IPhone, but correct me if I'm wrong...It lacks any kind of flash for the camera, right? As petty as it sounds, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Who wants to place a bet that the verizon iPhone 4 will get ios 5.0 before the Fascinate gets 2.2?

Yeah I can definitely see that happening. It ships out with iOS 4.2.5 I think or something like that.

Actually, with my parents being less technogically advanced as the rest of the world...I'm pretty sure they're getting the iPhone when their contracts end Jan 22, and I don't blame them.

The only thing people have to get pissed off about is:
- Lack of 4G LTE
- Pricing for a Hotspot (which we have once rooted easily)
- No calls while browsing the web, which existing Verizon customers already know of.

Apple has a market for sure. In fact many people like to be spoon fed. Thats not a slam per se. Its just easier. Our instant gratification society certainly rewards something like apple products which work well for most/many right out the box. Its also cool and en vogue to be on apple for some in some circles. My son has an ipod touch and thats fine with me.
By way of analogy, and those who know me know I love analogies. Apple products are to either industry what Slim Fast is to the weight loss industry. The most recognized name with tons of noted endorsers. Easy to use and seems to be very effective and achieving its desired end. However, for most, when you really know the score of the game you realize all that glitters isnt gold and that Slim Fast / Apple is far from ideal/maximal. When you have the know how on your own you choose a different path, your own path. Until then though its fine to walk on someone elses if that makes it easier for you. No judgment there

meh not even if st jobs himself delivered it while wearing a pink tutu.

i wont buy any apple products. cant stand the prioprietary nature of thier business model.
