Not just us

Yes its an across the board problem for all American SGS. Im just choosing to see the glass half full. We have the best 2.1 device around. Our hardware is the best of any single core phone around. At the rate PK is going we'll have 2.2 and then 2.3 soon and then we'll be better than anything else across the boards.
For once Im trying to be positive on the complete lack of froyo

The only thing different I see is 4G and Android 2.2. I don't even wanna make the move to 4G unti it's nationwide. Why pay for something I'm not going to use?

Indeed Ive been saying that for awhile now myself, especially since we'll all be locked into our devices now for 20 months at a time unless you wanna pay full retail. I always say what will you do with your next phone you cannot do now? What will dual core enable me to do that Im not doing now? 4G was a given for my next phone as its stupid to get another 3G. But Im thinking its best for me to hold out for a genuine leap forward when it comes to screen solution and storage. So while this qHD screen sound cute. I'll wait for something even higher res. As I will for sdxc. The whole dual core cpu is unstoppable but will we actually see quad core this year? Who knows. There too the question will be what will quad enable you to do that dual cannot especially on a phone

At least sammys 4g for verizon is a lot different...,and who knows when it will launch...and let's face the fascinate.is 100x better looking than that piece....,well its an ugly phone. :)

wow really samsung? This is how you do your customers? Keep this up and you'll have NO customers even with the BEST device on the market cause those who buy your devices will soon realize that they either have to keep buying or deal with aging, unsupported technology.

Yea that was 1 of my points if posting it. To show how the are basically throwing it in the faces of their customers if you want your phone to have 2.2 here buy your phone with 2.2

These companies need to stop loading the phones up with their own crap and just leave them be. Do you know how much happier people would be if all android phones were like the nexus? Where you can upgrade your phone to the latest version of your OS as soon as it drops? It would make it so much easier to handle for them too. Less development time. I can see bugs being an issue with some phones, but why aren't phones kept along the same lines as PC's? They're very similar in many ways nowadays anyhow.

SirKronan had it right when he said it should really be.... pick your carrier, pick your phone, pick your OS, Done.

(Of course, that would likely leave a lot of money in consumers pockets, and we wouldn't want to do that.)

well ill say this...a few hundred thousand people would be happy with unlocked vanilla google experience phones across the big 4 carriers

the average customer doesnt care....i mean the n1 (on 2 carriers) was basically a flop in america....and the nexus s isnt setting any sales records from what i can see

would i personally want a phone like that?...um...heck yes :)

but 95% of customers dont know the difference

Yeah and that makes total sense I guess. It's all about the $$, and if most people don't care or even notice the difference why bother. I've never used a google experience phone, so I'm curious if all these "enhancements" that HTC/Moto/Samsung add to their phones really make it that much more "user friendly" for the masses.

If only Verizon wasn't so bitchy with what they let on their network. :)

Yeah, vendors arent catering to the root crowd, just like Intel or AMD isnt catering to the OCing community.

Well they let Apple on now sans all the vcast junk so that might be promising but Apple is a different apple ;)

i think with the move to lte there is a significantly greater chance of seeing an aosp or dev phone on vzw....and by greater chance i mean instead of 1/25, more like 1/5 :o

but there are always those rumours about an aosp monster coming...but like most rumours....

But the n1 and the nexus S are on t-mobile. put one on Verizon or Sprint and they would sell a ton of them, guarantee it.

no one can predict sales numbers...if your basing this on those of us in forums who want one...thats not the best way to go.

really those who really couldnt live without a dev phone jumped ship to tmo for them.

if you even want to say that 1/2 of the entire root community on verizon would buy a NS...thats what (optimistically) 100-200k people? and that assuming theyre not under contract, have upgrades, or would pay full price.

im not trying to sound annoying...believe id want it on verizon...just being realistic :o

The plot thickens for t-mob and makes me wonder is this happening to us also. Check this out:

This is real disappointing and yet I can see the logic behind it. Still if VZW is doing the same thing thats a real pisser [can I say that, I just did:p]. If they hold out 2.2 just so a new 4g/lte phone sells better thats bad mojo for them. Besides the selling point of a 4g phone is the 4g not the 2.2, well in theory at least. Yeah I hope and pray bird/jt/PK get us 2.3 before this 4G/LTE from Samsung drops.

Yeah I would almost walk into a verizon retail store to show off my GB but no one in those shops cares and that would not hurt VZW or Sammy. I guess I'll just have to email some shootme shots to vzw and sam

Yea half of them would probably be like what's that? ;)

I was trying to be nice :p Im bad for getting a bad rep with some ppl so ya know I didnt want to make some random v sales assoc/tech to come in and get upset  but truely I agree with you :D
My niece works for vzw and she was clueless about tech stuff when they hired her. She does at least know a bit more know. Probably more from talking to me than her on the job training. She didnt know about the iphone coming till I told her. She's great at her job though because she's friendly, even if its undereducated
