Root my thoughts on rooting

well i rooted, my desire coz i thought it would allow me to delete facebook stocks etc , well it does'nt :confused:
also i thought it just uses sd card for memory , eer no it dose;nt do that either , maybe i shoulda read into it more ,
it seems to me rooting in only worth the trouble if you are gona flash a rom as well , otherwise i wouldnt bother , if you have a branded phone then maybe you can delete some of the bloatware , but it you have an unbranded phone , then just intsall the force to sd card and all is good .
, have to say its been a waste of time for me ,
and flashing an ruu seems like a bother to , so here i am , a rooted phone
and all back to where i was before i spent hours with a headache doing it .
just so you know chaps :(
 
For A2SD+ - yes you need a custom ROM

To delete apps, it does work but you need to be in recovery and do it via adb

As for RUUs, easy if you have the correct one your phone came with
 
Run it and do what it says, quite simple really!

EDIT: Running this will wipe all data so be aware of this

Sounds like someone didn't read enough about it! I wouldn't be happy with an unrooted phone after finding out what rooting does, apart from frying eggs (your cpu doesn't get hot enough), your phone can now do almost anything. don't change anything, use it as it is for a while, read alot more about it, decide later.

Tbh it's probably easier to go back to stock until they've read about what rooting can do - rooting isn't the first thing you should do with a Desire. You should only root if you NEED, not because everyone else does it

Ultimately it comes down to how many crappy apps you wanna install. I only use 7 and can run it happily on Sense but battery life got annoying so rooting was the route for me

Rooted phones have so much more functionality! I rooted because when Orange blocked the WiFi tether when they released 2.2 and then tried to blame HTC, I thought what am I waiting for? The man in the shop said yes it'll tether no problem (my iPhone wouldn't without an extra charge), and then a few weeks later they switched it off on 2.2. Although to be fair Orange did take so long to release it after HTC, I did have the option for another few months.

Blaming HTC was just an insult!
 
Ah, but you didn't need to root as just going stock would've sorted that out for you ;)

It's the reason I never get branded phones as it also keeps my warranty intact! :D
 
I had one of the first Nexus One's when they released it to AT&T and first thing out of everyone's mouth was ROOT it, it will make it so much better, well like a MORON I did and was stuck with a phone that could not get OTA updates from Google and had to wait for updates from developer's, and those pretty much sucked, plus rooting back then was like major surgery with having to use the Command Prompt to do everything and also rooting was not reversable back then, I was not happy with the N1 after that and so I sold it. I now have the Desire and will NEVER root it or will I root my Desire Z when it shows up today.

As for those that think rooting is the answer to all well I do not think so and although I will debrand my Z like I did my Desire I will never root again!!!!

still never mind , hours spent rooting and i am back where i started :(
now i cand do updates :confused:
unless i risk rom updates , and god knows how to do that prolly another few hours of worry .
pitty there just not a back button , lol

As per my first reply to you, rooting DOES allow you to remove apps such as Facebook but you have to do so in recovery using adb. You can't just delete them with a file manager

yeh titanium says it will do it in recovery , but it didnt work , it just froze the phone and my ass wnent in and out so i rather no risk it again :eek:
. i just wana get it back to stock now htc sence now .
phone is 6 months old with amoled .
so will the download work as simple as it looks ?
 
As in the RUU? Should do but to be safe do this:

1. Turn off the phone
2. Turn it on again holding the back button. You'll go a white screen with 3 Androids at the bottom and it should say FASTBOOT in red.
3. At the FASTBOOT screen, connect it to the PC. It should change to FASTBOOT USB
4. Once Windows installs the drivers and says ready to go run the RUU

actually using the Apps2SD app in the market, or the force apps to SD trick for unrooted phones STILL doesnt really save the day...as core files will STILL be put on the phone...you may save yourself trouble with say some games like need for speed which ONLY phone install...but on the whole the phone will still lose memory quickly..

hell I rooted and have a custom rom with apps2sd+ and I still have around 100MB internal memory and MORE apps on the phone than I had previously before rooting...and when I was unrooted I was down to around 25MB left..

so not a waste of time for me or many others..

rooting is the answer /end
its easy to return (depending on carrier)
rom updates are easy as they are more or less intergrated into stock rooted roms the day they come out from htc
the stock rooted roms are as stable as stock
no command line is needed for root anymore

rooting is not for you, you have a hang up about it. i would never push someone to root however to say its not the answer!!! you are gravely mistaken about 60% of the phones functionality is lost without root
