Root Alpha Froyo from Punk Kaos

well, just means gotta try it out and compare the two to see which one feels better. i thought though that they were working together sorta to get this out faster...?
 
Yeah jt just dropped vanilla froyo. Voodoo is optional for those concerned. The rom is a scant 50mb too talk about streamlined :eek:
 
Where do we go to find the AOSP Froyo by jt? Is it only on irc right now? I saw him update twitter earlier about GPS working and I was wondering if that was for pk's froyo, but I guess not.

When it comes to.speed/options cm is kinda the" "bloated" aosp....it includes many customizations that the creators felt (and in many cases) do enhance the user experience...,but it was always slower.than miui and gem roms because they.were leaner...,so vanilla aosp will be faster, but many will stick with.cm because of its little.extras and the speed.compromise isn't that significant
 
Silly question here, but I'm just curious before I start flashing. I really like the Samsung apps that came with the SF. I assume those aren't included in these froyo roms, right? Is there anyway to put them on? At the very least the messaging program? :)

aosp does not use samsung apps....i suppose youd have to check them individually (by pulling them and then pushing them over aosp) but many will not function properly without the touchwiz framework, which aosp does not have

so if you need samsung apps, then aosp may not be the best option :o

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. I think the only two samsung apps I use are the messaging app, and the gallery app. Damnit... I use the camera app too.

Guess I should start getting finding others if I want as close to a "google experience" as I can get.

handcent is always an option for messaging (although i think aosp messaging is fine)....aosp gallery is pretty good....and atm no camera works in aosp so its moot :o

Nitsuj17 have you tried either of these roms again? If so are you still having problems with the browser? I've tried flashing this one and the vanilla again to no avail. I'm beginning to think maybe its a hardware issue. I think I've flashed my phone to death. I've killed it.

Yeah very good observation. I concur completely. This is my 1st android so its obviously my very first taste of CM. I said this elsewhere but I can see the benefit of each. Its wonderful we now have both options. PK just tweeted something about his priority is bt gps and camera. Between jt and PK it seems all the remaining hardware should come good in the next week. I guess my own jury vote is still out over which I liked more. Im obviously on the aosp now since a few more things work right. Also I enjoy the -50mv in jt's kernel as I think PK's was just stock. But Im sure I will bounce back to Kaosinate at some point. It might be a case of whoever is further along that day:p

Crucial the gallery app in aosp is very much like the one in TW so you wont have any learning curve there. Also messaging is a personal thing. I've been using handcent for many and still do so the vanilla messaging doesnt affect me. I just peaked at it and its different but not bad. I dont recall how it compares with the messaging app in TW though.
Finally I clicked the camera just to see what it did and I get a black and white checkerboard with a gray box floating around

I was on CM for a few days and never had a single browser crash. I've been on aosp for about 12 hours now and havent had a single browser crash here either. Mind you I only did like 7 minutes on the browser just for giggles but it sounds like you guys who get crashes dont even make it 7 minutes :o. Not sure what to tell you. Im not sure which one of us is the norm and who is the exception :confused:

Well you may have threw the kicker in there for me saps. I was leaning more towards jt's but if it has -50 I may not be able to run it :( but lucky theres pk's.

quite a few people reported teh browser fc problems...so i think you may have been among the lucky saps :o

Im kinda stunned you cannot run even a -50mv on stock Ghz. I know you said this before but man. Maybe you should at least try the new one maybe it'll work this time around. You are the only guy I know who cannot run jt's kernel at stock if you cant :(

Yea I'll try it because don't get wrong I'll be more than happy being on pk's but jt's just seems to appeal to me more atm. But ya never know thats a few days away so a lot could change.

Ps: got job interview tomorrow :D
 
Yea I saw a few people had the same issue and most seem to think the solution is flashing the right gapps. I have had crashes on the stock browser and dolphin.

They both have pluses. PK just tweeted that while JIT didnt totally work something he did sped things up. And GL tomorrow :)
