I'm saying good bye for now to the Hero section. Got an EVO today.

Don't know if I'm gonna keep it or not. I don't know if I want to take the risk of rooting this thing just yet. It would make a very expensive paper weight. :)

Thanks to DonB, Andygu3 and LPB Heretic, you guys are the reason I actually got involved with rooting. :) Thanks for all the help!

I will probably continue to tinker with my Hero, until I grow a set big enough to root my EVO. :D

Enjoy your new toy and stop by and keep us posted on your progress if you decide to root, it was a pleasure helping out, good luck!! ;) I myself am happy with my post and unless something new and appealing comes out I will keep it for a while, if your keeping your Hero you can still use with Wifi as a back up

I still plan on tinkering. ;) I have the itch to root this thing now. Bad juju! Thanks again, I'll keep in touch. :)

Why do not know if you are going to keep it?

I also went from Hero to Evo. Rooted it about two weeks ago, after having it for about two weeks, it was very easy, with Unrevoked. nyway, Enjoy! The folks on the Evo forum are just as friendly and helpful as everyone here on the Hero forum.

Enjoy your Sprint HTC EVO 4G! Now that Sprint is levying the $10 data fee onto everyone eventually, I may just get one of those two with my upgrade that is coming up.

Although, I will probably wait to the CTIA show to see what new handsets Sprint has on the horizon. We shall see!

Do they also offer one click version like Universal Androot, I am sure many will be interested in that

Yep same here, but they are only adding the additional charges to new 3G smart phones, so as long as our Hero's keep on ticking we are still good to go. My main reason to wait also is to see what is new to come out this year ;)

Yes, Unrevoked is considered one click. Just need to be sure you have the drivers installed first, so "one click root" still applies!

I was a little concerned like Heretic said about the next bad thing comming out 32 days after I upgrade. :)

I've had the worst luck with phones over the last 2 years. I had 4 v950 renegades in 1 year, and 2 heroes for the other half of my last upgrade. I had to outright buy the 1st hero. Very unpleasant. I'm worried shitless about screwing this thing up!! My wife would divorce me. :(

Don, I heard the charge is going to be applied to anyone with an unlimited data plan. It could have been a crafty sales person at sprint blowing smoke up my ass so I would upgrade now. ;)

I will find the actual Sprint report and post it, when I read it simply said applied to new 3G data phones, but you know Sprint they change comments like they change there underwear, LOL

Here you go read below

Oh, Sprint, you sneaky devil. The nation's third-largest carrier just announced that it's tacking on an extra monthly $10 "premium data" charge to its 3G Everything data plans -- in effect, charging 3G phone owners the same total price that Evo and Epic owners pay now for 4G service. It's especially weird because Sprint's hidden the price increase in a press release entitled "Smartphones Drive Wireless Data Explosion" that initially appears to be about increased use of data before shifting abruptly into a defense of the additional charge and potshots at tiered data plans -- we know no one wants to talk price increases, but let's have some gumption, guys. Existing 3G Everything plan holders won't see their rates go up until they "upgrade or activate another smartphone," which doesn't sound great for family plans, but we'll get some clarification on that and let you know. Either way, we'd say picking up a non-4G Sprint phone just got real silly. PR after the break.

DonB is right. You will not be hit by this new fee until you upgrade your existing plan or sign up for a new one.

I am eligible for an upgrade in just over ten days. Now that I will be hit with the $10.00 increase whether I get a 4G handset or not, I may just think about that upgrade a bit more. This is especially since I will probably lose that upgrade if I do not use it by April 1st due to Sprint changing the rules for the Premier Plans. I will see what new handsets are coming out during the CTIA show and then make my decision.

Sneaky Sprint reps!! I like the upgrade anyway, so I won't hold it against him. :)

Ummmm, I've been reading the rooting process for the new phone..... I feel like I'm resisting the last Krispy Kream donut. Resistence is futile.... :)

JB in AZ didn't root right away either but is happy he did from what I read and seems to be pretty simply with the process he used, Unr3voked, the video below may wet your taste buds, LOL

Yep! UnrEvoked works its magic very quickly. I am happy to have a rooted EVO, but haven't flashed a custom ROM yet

This is just still so very tempting......I'll probably root once the new GB ROM for the EVO is stable. I'm messing with desktop visualizer and loading custom LP icons and such, I'm still having fun. :)

Resistance is futile....

Always remember you can always revert back, it is one click away, LOL :D
