I vote the maximum. I believe products should be reviewed with attention to the price. In other words, a great phone is a phone that does what you expect it to do in respect to its value. Does it do what the price suggests it does? Is is too high a price for too little? But I really think that with the Ascend, it does more than what you expect it to do, and it is very hard to find a product like that. Heck, with that philosophy, this phone might as well be the greatest phone on the market. Please feel free to comment

Hi Joser!!!

I agree! That is exactly why I gave it 5 stars. Your rationalization is perfect. And I think that is the way these phones should be rated.

I think that if we're comparing apples to apples....it might even warrant a higher rating.

For $99 (after my mail in rebate) it's a cheap way to get into the whole smart phone market, though I do notice some limitations:
1: I Installed custom ringtones, and a custom bootup animation, and also a custom notification sound, except the notification keeps sounding off for some reason i don't understand, it goes off and check both my email, my voicemail, and my text messages, and there's nothing there. I wonder what it is notifying me of?

2: The phone recently got really slow.At the suggestion of several members here who have helped me greatly, I rooted the phone using Z4Root, and then I downloaded and installed the following apps from the market:
a: root explorer
b: rings extended
c: liberty toolbox
d: titanium backup
and a few other much smaller apps. Any ideas on how to make my phone faster?
All in all I like the screen, "maps" stalls sometimes, but the sound quality of the calls is pretty good, and it works well with my Icon jawbone bluetooth earpiece.

That's my 2 cents!

Joser I totally agree. The Ascend is Incredibly impressive and the performance is great! I rarley have issues with the phone. What ive noticed is that some people give bad revies on the phone because they have the whole android market installed on their phone! My friend has a Galaxy S and like 40+ apps installed and his phone runs worse than mine! (I have about 10 apps installed) but yeah, GREAT phone!
 
Bottom line with performance, the more crap you cram into it, the slower it's going to be. I mentioned in another post that I really start to notice the impact when available internal memory gets down below 25MB. I went through my phone and deleted several apps that either didn't work right or were just plain unnecessary, and that makes a fair bit of difference.

Also, if you are using a live wallpaper, that can affect your phone's performance as well.
 
The price, The ease of use and the ability to customize it without having to get a degree in Androidistics (LOL). Seriously, I adore it's cute trackball, I love it's call/hang up button. It's like having a smart phone yet still being able to have "Basic" phone options.

I used to rage at my Optimus M when I realized I couldn't just "Hang it up" or "Call the last person by pressing call button". X.x Some people might think I "Downgraded" by getting the Ascend. I think I upgraded. Upgraded my quality of life spending less time trying to hang up/call people or click links online without a trackball on a phone.

The Optimus is great. Just wasn't my cup of tea. This phone was my cup of tea plus a few yummy cookies. ^_^
 
I see where Virgin Mobile has just come out withe the Optimus V and it's sold out already.

I love LG products but it would be very difficult for me to ever go back now that I've fallen in love with Huawei handsets.

Even if the official 2.2 doesn't come our way (which I really do believe it will) I won't switch to any other phone but to upgrade to something like the X5 or X6 when they come out. Pretty sure that Cricket is getting the X5 but I don't know about the X6 yet.

It would be so funny to watch this entire forum upgrading to the same phone when the time comes.

If they don't get the upgrade and since Metro might not get the X5 or X6, I might end up on Cricket. Though...Wasn't one of those phones colored kind of like the 60's? Which phone was that anyways? Dunno if I could bare to be caught talking on a phone more colorful than my outfits. (I'm a neutral tone wearer). XD

That phone was the original IDEOS. It came in a bunch of wild colors! LOL

I'm the same as for neutral and I like traditional black candy bar phones.

Huawei did introduce a new IDEOS X3 at MWC last week and it comes in red as well but I don't even know if it's going to be released in the U.S.

It will have Gingerbread, however.

Ahhh. Okay. Yeah, Black candy bar phones are my style too. Though if they've got a black front, I can always put a black case on them (Like my Ascend).

If we don't get the update for the Ascend, I'll end up owning a new phone with Gingerbread. So then I'll have an eclair, froyo, and a gingerbread in my house. Gotta say, For a person like me who collects electronics, That would be an achievement. LOL

I'm really quirky when it comes to cases on my phone. I used to always keep a Zebra hard case on my old LG Dare and when I got my Ascend I ordered one for it too. But it just never seemed to look right to me. Now I have it in it's virgin state. :P

It just felt too thick with the case. Looked cool though! LOL

The day it fell out of my purse and "Bounced" I realized that having my simple black rubber case was meant to be. I may not end up bricking this phone but, I'll certainly destroy it without a case!
 
I usually hate cases on my phones, but had to break down and get one due to the shiny back that shows every fingerprint. I found a really nice one on amazon. It's called the black rubberized hard shell case by Amzer. It actually makes the phone look and feel nicer instead of cheaper like most cases. It's a hard case with a super thin rubberized coating that almost feels like velvet or something. 2 thumbs up! The ones you get at the cricket store are a total rip-off imo.(too expensive and poor quality)

The Metro store I go to ends up doing everything little thing to make a customer happy. They gave me the case when I bought the phone. Don't get jealous. LOL

I love my Ascend. I did however end up paying the full $179 for it from Metro the day it came out, cuz I "just had to have it". Well, my BlackBerry was basically a brick byt hen anyways, and the money was worth it to me. Then I rooted it and love it even more. I will eventually upgrade someday, but theres no reason now as of yet...
