what will the value be next December?

hi,

what will the EVO be worth next December 2011? when my upgrade comes due. this would be our last 1 yr upgrade...

If I sell it on craigslist or ebay... what do you think I can get for it?

I was thinking $175 -$200.

About a henway.

Too far away and too many variables to consider. A lot depends on what comes out between now and then and at what price.

with our 1 yr upgrade benefit going away this year.. after every has their last 1yr-upgrade...

in 2012.. would sprint phones values keep them better?
meaning.. (1 yr later) when you try to sell your used-to-be-top-of-the-line phone... could you get more for them to help supplement for the self-upgrade?

If wimax is still Sprint 4g platform and more widely available, you'll get up to $200 depending on the condition of you Evo.

by then, you probably should just get whatever the hot smartphone will be then for $200. if you're going to renew, why not use that new phone credit?

I asked one of the reps about this and they said any of us with full data contracts / premium status as of Jan 31 would be grandfathered in.

Time will tell.

I hope this is the case. Having just hopped onto the Sprint bandwagon, this feels like a swift kick in the you know where with this change. Half the reason I went with them was their 12 month upgrades!

The Sprint rep (as usual) appears to be incorrect. As Sprint states on the FAQ for the Premier change:

"On January 21– 26, 2011 a letter was sent to all Sprint Premier customers announcing that beginning April 1, 2011 the Premier program will be updated with two levels of benefits, and informing customers of their expected status (e.g., Gold or Silver) based on their current account data. The letter also provides a special Web site (sprint.com/premierupdate) to learn more information."

As it states, your expected account status will change once April Fools Day comes around. Further, it is my understanding that if you do not upgrade before April 1, you will LOSE your ability to upgrade until your regular contract comes up for renewal. Hopefully, my understanding is incorrect, but if your status changes, your ability to upgrade should also change. Boo on Sprint!

If they eliminate the 12 month upgrade, there is zero chance I will renew with Sprint. People don't switch to other carriers because they keep upgrading every 12 months and extending their 2 year contract in perpetuity. I think its a smart system. If they get rid of it, they're going to lose a significant number of customers in 24 months.

I am sure it was just a fluke..but I stopped by a sprint store today and the Evo was no longer on display.

I really don't care what the price will be then... because I just recently got this and I ain't letting it go. (Not yet anyway.)

I sold my Touch Pro (1st one, not the TP 2) a few weeks after I got my EVO for $150, but that was also with a ton of accessories. My TP was already 2 years old by then, but it still had high demand.

I think the value of the EVO by December will all depend on a couple factors: 1) If the 2nd generation of the EVO is released, 2) If it's still considered one of the best smartphones in the market, despite all the new models that will be out by then, and 3) if the EVO you're trying to sell is in good-great condition.

Ultimately, I think it's really easy to sell good smartphones (as long as they're in good shape). I've already sold 2 through ebay in the past and depending on the next generation of the EVO, I'm likely to sell my EVO if I decide to upgrade again (all depends on how drastic the new generation EVO improves on the current version).
