Is anyone else completely disinterested in the Atrix now?

I'm ready to dive into Android. Does anyone think AT&T will give me any issues if I get the Inspire then return it and get the Atrix later? I'll probably wait a week on the Inspire to give me time to get the Atrix. The Atrix has some features that I want so it'll be the phone I stick with.

And will att detect someone using a bell version and using it be a random laptop dock?

I was never planning on buying from AT&T as I don't want to get locked into a contract and be required to pay the higher data plan. I'm still on a non-smartphone data plan with a phone at&t can't detect.

I wonder this myself. And also which sim card will it use? The same one that is in the iphone4?

Wow!!! at&t definitely just shot itself in the Foot with this pricing. My take is this, you just lost out on having the exclusive with Apple for the iPhone, and have never been BIG players in the Android Market. This was the chance to really make a dent, and grab a large Android following. Not going to be the case I suspect. That's a lot of money for something that has no guts or engine to power it...The one thing that at&t had on its side just got thrown out the window...which was people looking for a Duel core device now! I think a lot of people will wait for vzw now or Sprint. Only because at&t's reputation is not that good right now as far as connection and service goes. Tons of people are leaving the iPhone behind and going to vzw. The Atrix priced right would have helped heal the wound of so many iPhone users leaving. But I guess at&t doesn't really care, business as usual.

Why doesn't anyone get it -.-

The person who wrote that article on WSJ probably made a TYPING ERROR!!!!!!!!!

Just read this:

AT&T will offer bundled pricing of $499.99 for the smartphone and the Motorola laptop dock. Separately, the laptop is $499.99.

So, the stand-alone Laptop Dock costs the same as an Atrix 4G + Laptop Dock bundle? Don't think so :) Obviously, the person who wrote that article made a mistake.

I dont care about the laptop dock as I was never interested in it anyway. I just want the phone. Ill be buying from Best Buy and I have over $200 in RZ bucks ready to bring the off-contract price down. I just want a bedside dock if anything like I have with my N1.

you will need the bigger sim card from the 3gs at least, the 4 has a the new microSIM, but you can find adapters to convert it back to the "regular" SIM size. check eBay...

Nope, the official AT&T press release has the same pricing. No typo, just utter greed.

AT&T Announces the World?s Most Powerful Smartphone, the Motorola ATRIX 4G, Will Be... -- DALLAS, Feb. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

There is no typo te bundle is 599 so an $100 savings then there is a $100 mail in rebate making it $499

You know what just hit me.....

If motorola released a fully functional windows 7 lap top....with the Atrix doc in the back for this functionality of staying in your phone environment while teterhing the data signal to the lap top, made side loading the apps and media to and from the phone via the hard connection, and allowed you to upload/download the documents back and forth and edit them and synch them between the two enviromnets.

I WOULD NOT HESITATE to pay $500 to $600 and a tethering plan...

I would do it in a heart beat.

So if this is the price and plan they need to charge..they need to come up with some REAL equipment, not try and sell this POS screen/keyboard/battery at a lap top price and then hit you with a tethering plan that you can only use in mozilla but still wont be able to utilize for netflix/silverlight and the million other things you could use it for if it were set up like i said above.

No offense but they are all delusional if they think i would select a "doc" over a fully functionaing lap top when they are the SAME PRICE..much less the fact that its way LESS functional and they are hitting you with extra data charges just to add insult to injury.

If you want my money..you have to actually OFFER ME SOMETHING i dont have. Sell me a lap top with an atrix adapter built in......THAT might actually be useful.

How have they shot themselves in the foot? Because an accessory is expensive and requires tethering?

When the other carriers get their versions of these phones/docks, who is to say that their packages wont be just as expensive?

Early adopters to new technology ALWAYS end up paying a higher price tag initially. I don't see how it's any different than people paying more for Wimax and LTE.

I have completely lost interest.

Wrong thread title ;)

Title of the thread should be "Is anyone else completely disinterested in the Atrix 4g LAPTOP DOCK now?"

Of course people will still love the phone by itself.

You don't have to support Att's game of overcharging for the laptop dock but by all means DEF get the best Android phone on the market!

I was prepared to finally make the jump from BlackBerry to Android and snag this phone, but the pricing info just threw me for a loop. Regardless of whether I had decided to get the dock or not, the way they priced these accessories combined with the tethering BS and mail-in rebate requirement have totally soured me on the device and AT&T in general...and I've been an AT&T customer for more than 10 years. Not sure what direction I'm going to go, I have 2 lines, one of which is eligible now and the other in a couple months. Maybe I'll feel different when the disbelief wears off...and when some good reviews of the phone come in...but I am definitely not a Day One buyer now.

The phone by itself is an absolute monster:
- 1930mAh battery
- 1 GB ram
- Dual core
- 4g HSPA+
- up to 48GB of memory
- qHD display

Show me another phone that has those specs and I'll think of getting something else ;)

I really don't care about the Laptop Dock. If anything Att just saved me $$$ by overpricing it and knocking some sense into me to keep my netbook...

No doubt about that...and I know I'm just ticked off right now at AT&T for being so freakin' greedy. But I'm seriously considering sticking with BB for now and seeing what happens with this in the next month or two. Or maybe the Droid Bionic will be come out by then and prompt me to leave AT&T. It's kind of a no-win with these carriers now though.

First off, YES THATS EXPENSIVE FOR AN EMPTY SCREEN AND KEYBOARD! New Technology? OHH you mean Duel Core? Or you mean the Part of getting ripped of for an EMPTY SCREEN AND KEYBOARD that needs the phone to function? There is nothing new about at&t ripping people off, my bill is insane. This is the same company that was charging $299 for the Blackberry Bold 9700, all while the Blackberry Torch was selling for $199? where is the Logic in that, if selling something new (1st BB Slider) for $100 less then the Bold which was still running 5.0 makes sense, let me know! The real reason was people hated the Torch, and everybody loved the Bold, and they felt that charging $100 more for the phone eveyone still loves a year later makes sense. No it doesnt! They know people are going to run out and buy the Atrix, so why not over charge for this empty laptop while they're at it. FOOLISH, very FOOLISH!

I have at&t, and I thought they struck Gold and had a real knack for how big Android was becoming by going out and getting the Atrix, and pushing they're 4G out. But guess what, I drop a zillion calls on my at&t line, Data is deathly slow, and they want me to Pay $500 for the Atrix and this laptop dock? All while it runs on they're new 4G network that nobody even really knows too much about? Nope, I'll keep my Blackberry on at&t for now, and opt for the Thunderbolt on vzw, and use my Fascinate as a back up. And yes I'll pay a slighly higher premium for vzw's mothly 4G because I trust vzw and know they're network is Rock Solid.

My point was that the dock is an accessory. You can take it or leave it. The phone will be the best on the market for a little while. For $200, I think it's great. Thank you for the rant though, it was entertaining.

Droid Bionic will meet or exceed everything except the RAM.

The Droid Bionic is supposed to be out by the end of Q2, which is somewhere around June. Still 3 months off.

Screw that stupid dock, with the amount of laptops and pads on the market do we even need a dock for a cellphone. I am not saying no one should want one but I would not let it determine whether I buy a phone or not. The Atrix crushes every device out right now, I am not getting one because I refuse to pay full price for a phone and I can't resign until September so hopefully something even more badass comes out in that time, this phone is going to kick more ass than any phone out right now, let's just enjoy the whirlwhind.
