Atrix vs Inspire

locked boot - if the phone runs like it should I won't need custom roms

motoblur - i don't see what all the hate is about it's not that bad

no sideloading - there are ways around this even without rooting

gonna have no full ROMs - again if the phone runs like it should I wouldn't need them

Only a 5mp camera - it's not the mp that matter it's the lens. The iPhone 4 has a 5 mp camera and takes pics and video just as good if not better than any 8 mp phone camera.

plasticky cheap body - I'll wait till I hold it to voice an opinion on this.

Now the cons for the Inspire.

No dual core
No ffc
Screen res isn't as good
no notification light
only a 1230mAh battery
not as much RAM

It depends on what each person wants.

You forgot one more pro/con

The Atrix has an HDMI out.

The inspire...does not. :(

Having said that.... i should set the records traight on on the motoblur/rom thing.

Its not JUST that it has motoblur (can live with that).

Its not JUST that it has a locked bootloaded with locked sideloading and no roms (could live with that).

When you COMBINE motoblur + the locked bootloader...then BAM..thats not something you can live with. "lose/lose"

As far as Sense..it completely rocks compared to motoblur..thats not just my opinion..thats the MAJORITY opinion. But if you dont like it...the HTC will be much easier to root so..that goes in as "win/win"

As far s the battery...granted..i love that 1930...i assume a fair amount of that will be sucked dry by the dual core.

The stand by time for the Inspire is something like 370hrs while the standby time for the atrix is something like 260 (if i recall)..ball park.

Also having sideloading unlocked right out of the box is a huge win for the inspire..while no HDMI output is a huge loss.

The FFC..i say gimmcik..but know it is important to some people.

The fact that the doc is out of the argument now is neither here nor there..(i always considered it a gimmick).

As far as the dual core...even most of the Atrix fans agree that 2.2 wont we multi-threaded....because it IS NOT MULTITRHEADED. We also agree that there wont be any multi-threaded apps till probalby 3q with only a hand full out there by q4..sooo i hate to say it but..that renders that fairly useless (for now).

The added ram is nice....but 512 and up is still plenty. The samsung infuse wont come but with 512 and my 512 on my tegra II gtab seems more than sufficient. The inspire has...768. I am not saying more isnt ALWAYS better (it is)..just doubt that it will be any where NEAR utilized in this iteration (the atrix)

Camera....eh, i dont know..5mp to 8mp i would say they are both good. Lots have to do with the lens and software both they both probably will be nice...depends on if you are a camera fanatic or not.

As far as the screen, ill take 4.3 at a slightly lower resolution ANY DAY. I used to use 17 inch monitors with a max of 1076x800 all day long..and believe me...you can see fine...but you can see MUCH BETTER with a larger screen (the initial inspire reviews have ALREADY said as much). Although if you like your phone more slim line...i could see this being a win in the Atrix column (personal preference but definately not just a "clear win" for the atrix).

I agree 4G is a plus..thats why i avoided the captivate and have waited for these new phones to hit before upgrading.

It seems like there's some discord starting to brew. I always thought it was Android vs iPhone not Android vs Android. I'm going to get the Inspire and try it out. Then try the Atrix and make a final decision after that.

No AT&T Android device will, anytime soon... in fact I think Phandroid just ran an article about this...

Thats too bad, one of the reviews i read said it worked fine out of the box (we assumed it was a retail version).

oh well...i was hoping.

Iphones are nice and a couple years ago i still considered them to be the "only game worth playing".

That is no longer the case...android phones have matured and the "walled-garden" approach of Apple has killed it for me.

There are so many things you can do with an android such as swapping SD cards, swapping batteries, customizing the screens, and getting better hardware that Iphone has gone from "only game worth playing" to "not even in the running" in the last 24-36 months.

Hahaha, holy whine-o-rama! I'm still very likely buying as I want [vs. my existing Captivate] a better GPS, FFC, LED Flash, higher resolution display and potentially some speed perks - from my perspective, not much has changed.

It also still has the potential to be a nice multi-media phone with the Media port+bluetooth keyboard package they are offering at (eh hm) the still pricy but possibly worth it $189.

It seems like it, though I realize there will be some final, FINAL details at launch. The fact I can drop on some movies and play back directly via mHDMI-HDMI cable is pretty cool too.

I basically just want a very functional smart phone with some media capabilities and totally functional OOTB components.

Great point! Quoted for truth

When you COMBINE motoblur + the locked bootloader...then BAM..thats not something you can live with. "lose/lose"

Most people don't flash ROM's. Most people buy the phone just for the phone itself with its stock software. I can DEF live with locked bootloader and Motoblur for such an amazing spec'd phone. Sorry to hear that you can't but your def the minority opinion of buyers.

The stand by time for the Inspire is something like 370hrs while the standby time for the atrix is something like 260 (if i recall)..ball park.

The Atrix 4g has a talk time of 9 hours
The Inspire has a talk time of 6 hours

I'd MUCH rather have a phone that has 3 hours longer usage time vs an HTC Inspire that lasts longer while not using it ;)

Also having sideloading unlocked right out of the box is a huge win for the inspire..while no HDMI output is a huge loss.

Easy fix for sideloading out of the box so thats not an actual con: Airplane mode, Wifi turned on, Remove SIM, use Wifi to install apps from the market that you normally couldn't. Solved :)

I agree no HDMI output is a huge loss.

The fact that the laptop doc is out of the argument now is neither here nor there..(i always considered it a gimmick).

Same here I agree. The laptop dock is an unnecessary gimmick and people should buy the best phone on the market today regardless of the accessory pricing.

As far as the screen, ill take 4.3 at a slightly lower resolution ANY DAY.

As far as the screen, I'll take a 4 inch screen at higher resolution and qHD display ANY DAY :)

Yup, my personal opinion is the thinner the better.

Well inspire has DLNA and.also the HTC media hub which in my opinion is better than hdmi Out with the hdmi tour phone has to be tethered with the dlna or htc media hub it connects through wifi and use your phone as a controller on your bed or wherever

This is very much true, plus the HTC media hub creats an ad hoc wifi network meaning you could stream off your lap top to a hotel room tv using your HTC inspre as a remote.

NOW YOU HAVE full use of Netflix/blockbuster/silverlight, what EVER you want...

Frankly..that KILLS an HDMI port or connection in terms of both functionality and usefullness....the only issue i have there is the $99 cost of the HTC media dlna port...

Compared to the $184 cost of the Atrix combo pack though...$99 is not looking so bad at all now! (plus is very slim line and easy to port from place to place when traveling..much more so than the Atrix media port) And factoring in that its more than just a reciever (but lets you set up your own private wi-fi network "on the go)....for you "smaller is better guys" here.

Back to Inspire side loading....Yes or NO?

video above shows YES

Any phone can have a DLNA compliant server/client, I think we already covered this in another thread. [NTM] Someone also mentioned the Atrix has a DLNA app OOTB.

Check out the reviews on the htc media port...

I had never heard of being able to set up a wifi and stream from another device like a wifi lap top to a tv using your phone as a remote...

Are you saying thats normal? I have no experience with this but thought it was cool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apVfWrkHcV8&feature=player_embedded

"So we can't recommend the Media Link as the primary, cross-platform gateway to stream your digital media collection to the living room television. However, it could prove useful as a highly portable accessory that lets you quickly share the media captured by your new HTC handset to an HDMI-equipped display. But what really sells us on the Media Link is the idea of setting up a portable WiFi network in the hotel room that lets us stream compatible media off the laptop to the hotel television while lying in bed using HTC's Desire Z or Desire HD as the remote control -- naked of course, holding a turkey leg. Unfortunately, we suspect that HTC had hoped for a larger, more genteel demographic with its first foray into the digital living room."

I realized they were using it with the Desire HD but the same port will be releasing as an accessory to the Inspire

no its not normal and I find it surprising that all the atrix peeps arent commenting on the video showing the inspire does allow sideloading? HMMMMMM????

Thats because with the Atrix you can easily turn airplane mode on, remove sim, turn wifi on, browse market and install apps you normally couldn't. Dunno why your making such a big deal out of a feature that the Atrix 4g already has
