[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Posted in your other thread, you flash a recovery once only, then you boot into recovery everytime you want to flash a new RoM and then follow the flash process I have posted before and you should be good to go

Boot to recovery
Go to Partitions menu
Format boot
Format system
Format cache
Format data
DO NOT FORMAT SD CARD

Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to advanced, press it, wipe Dalvik cache (do this 3 times), then press back

Flash AOSP 2.3 GB

Flash Gapps

Hey DonB, I noticed that I need to format the boot, system, cache, and data partitions when flashing the Android 2.3 ROM. I never did that with other ROMs though, but should I be?

Like for example, if I flashed a CyanogenMod 6.1 ROM or AOSP Android 2.2 or Liquid Sense 2.1, should I be clearing those partitions each time too? I always thought it was just wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache and you are golden? Also, why do I have to wipe Dalvik cache three times? Thanks.

Yes it is highly recommended with the new fresh install of the GB Rom, FYI just installed the latest version over a previous of GB and simply wiped Davlik before and after flash, then rebooted, then went to the market and typed Superuser in the search and then when it came up I simply hit update and the SU app was updated, so far no issues

Okay, I understand that it is a good idea for the Gingerbread ROM. What I meant was should I be following this practice with all ROMs? I am still new to the flashing ROMs game. That is why I asked. :)

Or can I just get away with doing the wipe of Dalvik cache, cache, and data when flashing any other ROM except the Gingerbread ROM? Sorry, I did not mean to be vague in my previous post. ;)

You can get away with it but sometimes you may have issues, this way you are sure of a fresh clean install, with TB or Google installing your apps it is really quick to set your phone up after a full wipe, IMO

I guess this might be a dumb question, but are these partitions that I am formatting on my handset's internal memory or the microSD card? I always thought you only needed to partition if you were using the old school Apps2SD functionality. But it would make sense if this was a formatting of the handset's internal memory partitions. I really appreciate your knowledge, DonB, and thanks again.

One more question to add to the above, and then I will leave you alone, I promise. Did Amon RA's recovery have this partition wiping functionality or is it unique to ClockworkMod Recovery?

I believe it does wipe the internal memory partition as I had read that from AOSP post a while back and Andy and I have always formatted and wiped this since a while now and ever since I have done it this way, I have not had an issue since, and yes it is a CWM function, I do not recall this on RA, so I have been back on CWM for a few months now and have not had any issues either since, mainly because of practical, my only issue with CWM before was having issues with backups and renaming them and then restoring them, but now I simply add the end of the file the date and name of Rom with no spaces and have not had an issue since ;)

Ok I got a question about flashing over an existing gb rom. If i just wipe dalvik before and after do I still need to flash kernel, gapps fire rat mod, and everything else our would out be easier to just wipe and format as usual

No, but not sure about FR I think that needs to be set up again, but not sure, Nandroid and try it to see, but have noticed my internal memory is down to 48, lol, later all going to watch UFC

That brings up a good question for me and I know I promised I would leave you alone, DonB. Sorry.

When I flash custom kernels, tweaks, like Colin's battery tweak, and GApps, can they be wiped out? By that I mean, are they permanent until I flash something over them, or can one of the wiping options wipe them out completely? The partitions formatting options we talked about above or the wiping of cache, Dalvik cache, or data, or all of the above?

the supercircle battery mod doesnot work now do not flash it is FUBAR lol
as soon as it booted error error error error error nothing worked it crashed the notification bar, keyboard, voicemail, and a few other things i flashed all my stuff 4 times trying to figure what went wrong and the battery mod is what made it crash so heads up dont want someone else to have to double flash if ya got lots to flash

2nd thing found in the CM setting under performancethen cpu settings i get a FC on com.cyanogenmod.cmparts. i dont know it may have to do with the deca kernal or maybe the collins batt tweak or maybe just my phone

Ok one more thing tonight market well it opens loads and searches but when if i try to download it starts for a se cthen gone

When I flashed I done a FULL wipe including the format steps and the battery mod screwed everything upjust wish I could download opera this stock browser and keyboard sucks

me too. the 2/5 release (as did the 2/1 release, which are the only GBs I've tried) didn't allow downloads from the market. need to do this (from post 157 above):

xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][GPL][CM7][NONSENSE] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) [02/05/2011]

If you do it immediately after the fresh flash wakes up (i mean even before you touch anything, even before touching the android logo to start the google setup process), then you can get the autodownload of those google apps from the initial selection.

you don't have to completely reinstall Firerat's mod (i.e don't have to flash wipe everything, fr-recovery, wipe everything and reboot recovery) when you flash a new rom.
when installing the last couple of GBs (2/1 and 2/5 releases), I only:
wipe data
wipe cache
format partition boot/system/data/cache
wipe dalvik
flash ROM
flash gapps
flash fr-boot

323MB available (i think(?), something close, don't have phone with me right this sec).
works fine as long as your "mtdpartmap.txt" settings are good for the new ROM you're flashing. so going from GB ROM to GB ROM you should be fine.

(although i'm not certain that changing the "mtdpartmap.txt" would mean that you have to completely reinstall fr-recovery. i haven't tested this, at this point i would completely reinstall, if i changed "mtdpartmap.txt", the just to be safe)

I'm using "mtdpartmaps.txt" settings of "mtd 135 2" with GB. GB uses 90% of my system block.

[side note: I used the same settings ("mtd 135 2") when I first installed Firerat's mod last weekend on Froyo aospv9.9.2, (i knew i would try GB soon and would want to use these settings on GB), and the ROM only used 49% of my system block]

I went through a lot of the xda post about the fr mod and unless you flash a new recovery image you don't need to flash his recovery zip tha's just a patch/update. I have mine at 130 2 and I have 328 total?

I tried to flash the new recovery image through rom manager today by downloading the 3.0.0.7 and renaming it just like is stated on the first page of this thread. Now my rom manager says v3.0.0.7 at the top when I open it but when I reboot to recovery I still get the green 2.5.0.7. I tried to flash again and it said successful again but still the old green image boots. Was wandering if anyone had any suggestions to get to the orange recovery?

I have tried flashing GB through recovery (CWM 2.5.0.7) and every time I try I keep getting the HTC screen after rebooting but never progressing beyond that. I followed your steps outlined in this post with both the 2/1 and the 2/5 roms and they both do the same thing. I keep having to nand back to .9.9.2 so I can use the phone but I would love to use some of that GB awesomeness.

OK try this for kicks and grins, now that you have a good Nandroid, simply boot into recovery from the phone being off, then wipe davlik, then flash the GB Rom, then once done wipe davlik again, and the report back

FYI I am still on the 2.5.0.1 Recovery and all woks fine here

okay I believe I just turned into a case of leave well enough alone

I decided to try to enable data2ext on my phone, flashed the zip, went to recovery, made a nandroid.

Then proceeded to follow directions to a t, I even copied my data backup to my computer

I then partitioned my sd card, and started trying to go through the steps, I can't get past the first step for unmounting can't figure it out, so I decided to restore my nandroid, well cwm can't seem to find any of my nandroids. ok not panicking yet, I downloaded ti to try to get things back that way. I plugged in the usb to transfer my backup copy to the ti folder, and I can't get to the ti folder on my phone.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do, I even tried flashing back to 2.1 using the ruu from Sprint, and nada, phone can't communicate

thinking I may have to bite the $450 dollar bullet for an Evo now

Unfortunately that did not work either. I tried on the 2.5.0.1 recovery first but thought updating might fix my problem, it didn't. I am willing to try more options if you have other ideas. Thanks for your help.
