If this is what Sprint has to battle monsters like the Atrix, I feel Sprint's in trouble =/

So sending this to every Android related blog/site/etc isn't attempting to generate hype?

They are clearly trying to generate hype. And they absolutely failed to deliver.

And all these years in school for business management and marketing they teach you tthat is a marketing strategy. Man I want my money back!

y business rep actually quit and went to T-mobile. I told him to give it a year, and i'd entertain moving our account over. I have more faith in T-mobile than i do Sprint in the long run. Not happy with their phone choices at the moment so hopefully another year will solve that.
Sprint has a long history with getting it whole head in front of the shotgun.

Personally, it is just one of many reasons that sprint is in third place, slipping to 4th place.

They just have no perception of the market.

Yes this is the only phone they will announce until the end of time.

Lol it's not only that they just announced the phone, they held a special freakin' event for this phone, let everyone down, and even tarnished david blaine
s name. Seriously, why even have this event for this POS?

Per: Hype | Define Hype at Dictionary.com

Hype: to create interest in by flamboyant or dramatic methods; promote or publicize showily
another definition
Hype: to intensify (advertising, promotion, or publicity) by ingenious or questionable claims, methods, etc.

So, again

Sending that to every Android and generic phone related website on the net is the very definition of hyping something. And it absolutely failed to live up to the hype. It wasn't an industry first (there have been plenty of dual screen phones) and it certainly didn't show us the impossible is possible.

Sorry guys, I know I'm off subject here so feel free to PM me instead of carrying on here. @330D Are you saying if you're currently eligible for an upgrade & you won't qualify after April 1 you lose your eligibility until your 2 years are up?? I also have a Hero & have the same problems. I qualified months ago for an upgrade but Sprint doesn't have anything I'm interested in but I sure don't want to lose my upgrade. This is going to bug me & Sprint's going to have a fight on their hands if this is the case. :(

I may be wrong, and sorry if I am, but this is how I see it. I believe that they will take back any offers that are on the table as of April 1st. I am sorta leery to wait and see, I need a new phone, but really don't want to upgrade and be caught behind the curve for 2 years. I hate to say it, but when my wife upgraded her blackberry she probably made out better than I will with my upgrade. I don't doubt that the Evo or the Shift are good phones, but why don't we get something that is a little more cutting (bleeding) edge? Especially when I have to deal with it for 2 yrs, AND have Sprint's smaller footprint. Vzw would give me just a little bigger footprint which would be almost justifiable if the prices were a little closer, and the upgrade option was changed. Hmmmmmmmmm..........

Idk, I was hoping for something bigger. BUT, I don't feel this is such a horrible thing that it will ruin me for Sprint forever. I've been with them for 8 years. While no, I don't like the $10 a month surcharge for smartphones, a lot of bloggers/people on the forums who were only being charged because they had Epics and Evos suggested they raise the rates for everyone. When Sprint did that (well, for all the "smartphones" anyway) everyone got all ticked. I was one of them, to be honest, b/c I went into the EVO knowing full well about the charge, as did everyone else who got them. Anyway, I did some comparison shopping and guess what? Sprint is still the best deal out there...and here are the key words...for ME. If you get crappy service with Sprint it shouldn't matter what kind of phones they offer. Just switch. I'm happy with my EVO and Optimus. When contract renewal time comes around I'll check the rates for gits and shiggles but chances are I'll stay with Sprint. And I'm like some others on here...I don't for one minute think that this is the latest and greatest that Sprint will offer. JMHO FWIW :D

If you had a 1400 Everything Data family plan with 4 smartphones and a 20% corp discount, when you activate new phones your bill will jump from:

$104+16+16=$136
to
$104+20+30+30=$184

That really stings. Also, now that Sprint charges a $10 premium data fee for all smartphones... IMO, $10 4G fee arrives in 6-12 months.

I actually like the concept and idea of the phone. LOL it's funny laughing at the diehard android throw a tantrum over this :)

Between reading the Sprint facebook page, the phandroid and android central pages highlighting the Kyocera Echo, i am definitely having a good laugh at the seriousness people are taking over these phones lmao smh

Can't wait to see more reviews on it and hopefully something like this will come to t-mobile...albeit FFC, better camera and maybe a better proccessor

Microsoft had kin to experiment with prior to Windows Phone 7
and i truly think this is Kyocera/Androids/Sprint first attempt like the kin and hopefully that means better products will come out with this form factor

I think its Sprint fans, who are pissed about this. Not Android fans. People at ATT/VZW are probably having a good laugh about this.

Even David Blaine was too embarassed to be photographed at the event.

lol still though. It is a bit overdramatic.....LOL the comments on the Sprint site playing on the "Echo name" got old after like the first 300 :)

Every phone sprint or any carrier releases is not going to appeal to every consumer but i think given that

A)it's android
B)it's different
C)If they market it right with a hot commercial

It would do okay....

i hate how the hinge goew right through the middle of eveything.

and except for a few apps they deem able to run in split mode together.. only one app on each screen will run at a time! you can not watch a Movie on one.. and text on the other!!!!!!

why the F... you want a dual screen if you can not do the basic thing you want it for?????

ps.. yeah the phone is stupid and sprint fail to impress.
but I aint leaving sprint becuase of it.

The shortcomings of the design and execution as it stands right now are numerous and have been detailed by previous posters. Processor choice, no WiMax, no FFC, etc.

But what about support for this device going forward?

It's shipping one Android rev. behind, which is a strong indication that OEM support for the firmware will be slooooow. As if you didn't expect that already, given that Kyocera has next to no Android experience, and the one device they've released so far (Zio) has been pretty much uniformly declared a POS.

They've promised an SDK which will allow 3d-party devs to access the dual screens; but seriously! What dev is going to spend resources developing for this thing given the total # of units Sprint's going to sell? Unless we see this platform opened up across multiple carriers to expand its market share, no one's going to write anything for it.

So you have a phone that, while interesting, is almost certainly going to get poor OEM support, and a key feature that is almost certainly not going to get 3d-party support.

This is sorta like the Pre all over again. An intriguing idea marred by poor OEM execution, poor marketing, and doomed to poor aftermarket support.

You keep thinking that Sprint will at some point learn from its mistakes, and that maybe this time they won't disappoint you yet again. And each time, you're wrong.

yeah that hinge did bother me...I can;t see watching a video in full screen mode with it going thru the video

But i thought i saw them running an app while the video was playing

What you say is true tqlla. However, having said that, even with the increases Sprint will still be the best deal out there for me. Add to that freedom from worry of going over my minutes/texts/data. I have one line that I will probably discontinue once contract renewal time comes up regardless of whether I stay with Sprint. As for a $10 a month 4G fee, my EVO is the only phone that will qualify for that, but that is still cheaper than the competition. I will evaluate all carriers/plans out there before I make my final contract renewal choice in a few months but it still looks like, after making comparisons, that Sprint will still be my choice. Yes, the cost has gone up from what it was. It would still cost less for me to stay with Sprint at this point. Not a homer, just looking at my bottom line.

Maybe the "impossible" was the culinary creations. David Blaine was there to pull the rabbit-shaped culinary creations out of a hat. We had this all wrong, we should have read the invite more carefully. The phone was just the side show. The real attraction was the food. Maybe David Blaine is going to start his own cooking show.

Sprint sent out invites with a great sounding promise (industry first) and a good slogan (making the impossible possible) and then hired a celebrity to go along with the slogan. That is great marketing. It got everybody talking and bloggers blogging. Which created a ton of hype for the event. They then announced the phone, which is an industry first, and people talked even more! Everybody talking, blogging and posting about it gets this phone lots of attention. It isn't a phone for us die hard tech geeks. It is a phone for people who want 'flash and fun'. It will sell. I can see a lot of high school students and younger people wanting this phone. If they market it right when it comes out then it will be a hit for people who don't look at specs and reviews and all of that before buying. There are so many people that you could sell this phone too. And since I prefer to keep things in perspective I know that this is not the only phone that will be announced this year. VZW, Tmo and ATT are waiting for devices that have been announced. Sprint is waiting for phones that haven't been announced yet. Either way you are waiting. I am finding these threads to be highly entertaining how serious people are taking this. Like it is the end of the world that a phone they don't want was announced. Holy crap balls like that has never happened before. There are phones for everybody. That is why we have choices. Not every phone is going to be the latest and greatest and the best.

It's not as much we are mad because the hype and announcement of what looks like a POS phone but it is the last straw in a mountain of mistakes by Sprint. We were hoping for a phone, at least, that would make up for everything Sprint has been taking away from us. For me it didn't and was just the last thing on the long list of things Sprint has done to disapoint me. Sprint is a company, I have no loyalty or friendship with them so device selection, service and price are the only thing I take into consideration. For me Sprint is not worth it anymore so I'm am switching to a pre-paid carrier and save $60+ a month and have a phone for what I need, making calls and texting.

The phone is going to sell. Only the educated or at least the people wanting to get educated will not buy this phone. That leaves a lot of people who will ooh and ahh over a dual-screen phone. Instinct and Moment users (coming off their 2 year upgrade) will stray away from Samsung models and Kyocera sounds cool to them.

The phone is marketed towards the initial "wow factor" and dumb consumers will buy it and I'll sure as hell sell it to them. Now it won't sell to the cats who actually research what they want to buy.

You switching is what works for you. I also have no loyalty to any company or manufacturer. For me Sprint is the cheapest and the best service. ATT and Tmo where I live suck hard. Verizon is the same but costs me $100 more a month. Each person has to do what works for them.

Getting worked up over a phone is hilarious though. Especially when it is not the only phone that will be announced this year. It makes for some amazingly fun entertainment for a few days. On all the forums and blogs.
