Root Phone defaults to 4G after reboot...

And when I reboot it, 4G toggles on automatically. What a waste of an hour that was. The only thing I discovered is that the batch restore through Titanium was not the problem at all.

for some reason mine stop acting up, problem is i don't know what i did or undid/uninstall :( sorry.

I'm not too worried about it anymore. Perhaps someone will happen upon a reason/solution and post it in this thread, but my battery doesn't seem to be any worse, the phone seems to run normal, and I will just have to toggle off 4G on my own any of the few times I reboot.

I don't remember if MikFroyo needed new radios, but did you flash them for your ROM? I don't know if it could have caused a mixup, just thinking out loud. If you did, it would be one thing that we have in common (since our ROM/kernel is different).

before I root am already in 2.2, PRL and PRI are all updated too so I dont have to flash them. I assume the new radio came with the 2.2 upgrade so I just proceed on the rom and then kernel flash.

oops i dd it again, i start 4g then stop then reboot and here we go again. it starts with a 3g connection then turns to 4g, i try to read the alogcat but i dont have a clue or cant find who started 4g :(

crap

Try turning off 4g after it starts automatically. Wait a minute, then turn 4g back on. Let it fully start up. After it's been on for a sec, turn it back off. Once it is fully off, reboot. Some people have had to do that.

did not work, would it matter if i turn it off on the mikfroyo notification or should it be on the settings?

thanks

edit: it worked when i used the system switch :)

Sorry, forgot to say it should be done in actual wireless settings, not with a widget or anything.

Well son of a bitch. I toggled it off through the settings menu and no 4G on reboot and no connect/disconnect in LogCat. I had been trying it via the drop down notification bar. Interesting how that worked.

Glad that worked. I feel kind of stupid for forgetting to mention you have to do it through wireless settings. It is indeed weird that it has to be done that way.

No worries. It isn't on you at all. I can't expect you to solve all of my problems all of the time :p. It had become more of a peeve and less of a problem, so it wasn't really bothering me much anymore, but I certainly am glad to have a solution, of sorts. I would love to know WHY it happens and how to prevent it. I'm rather curious, now.

The 4G on, 4G off, reboot takes care of 4G being on by default upon reboot. Still, though, if you turn 4G on and back off (regardless of the method), it will start the connect/disconnect loop over again. This brings my peeve back in to play since I use 4G on a fairly regular basis. Fixing the reboot issue still helps some, though, since I can keep that loop issue at bay until I need to use 4G.

Is this something that has only affected rooted Evos or does it show up in stock Evos as well?

That's something I can't help you with. It's a bug with the Evo, and HTC is going to have to fix it. Your only option is to reboot (or a quick reboot should handle it to). Once you do, it should stop. If it doesn't for some reason, do the same procedure used to keep 4g from turning on automatically at boot. Yes, it's a pain, but it affects everyone - not just those of us with root. There's currently nothing we can do about it.

probably a bug in the notification bar code, and maybe same code were used between roms???

That bug may cause the issue with it defaulting to 4G after you reboot (I think MikFroyo has a toggle in the notification bar too?). The bug where 4G connects/disconnects in a continuous loop after you turn 4G off exists regardless of the method that you use to turn 4G on and/or off.

Just having the 4g toggle widget shouldn't cause 4g to turn on and stay on at boot. If that does happen, you know how to get out of it now. That being said, having a 4g widget can cause 4g to turn on briefly at startup, then off, which causes the loop you see in logcat. If you want to avoid 4g issues altogether, get rid of all 4g widgets, including the one in the notification panel. Whenever you want to use 4g, enable it in wireless settings. It's a pain, but you'll likely not have any more 4g issues. You'll still need to reboot after using 4g, of course, to make the loop stop.

any ideas how we can remove/replace the 4g toggle in the mikfroyo v4.4 notification panel?

I just noticed this as well. I don't have titanium at the moment, just flashed rls5 a few days ago. I didn't have the 4g starting until I did a restore using sms back up and restore. I just turn it off at startup, haven't noticed any battery drain from it.
