[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

Took a look at the vzw lte website again to view the updates (havent checked it in a lil while) anyways I saw the small "*Video calls must be made between Verizon 4G LTE devices or 4G WiFi enabled PCs." ???

I will not be getting 4G anytime soon if it is an option.. if not I wont even be getting this phone if its extra money on bill. But I had no clue that I was not going to be able to video chat without 4G service?! Or does this just mean the only people I can video chat with are other TB users as of now?

LOL, I think it is with regards to Skype video calling. Skype is an exclusive for Verizon. There is no other android phone on Verizon with a front facing camera than the Thunderbolt. Don't even know if the iphone 4 gets skype video calling.
I am sure that you can use Tango to do video calling over 3G.

Why does it makes sense? They don't sell the phone just on one day (10th) otherwise the 14 days remorse period is shifting too...lol if they sell phones on the 11th the remorse period ends on the 25th etc...

There is going to be a HUGE amount of people trying to get the Verizon iPhone within the first few days of launch. Sales will slowly go down until the next iPhone releases in which they will skyrocket again. The reason why it makes sense to me, is that 1. They want to release the Bolt right out of the window of return for the people who bought the iPhone within the first few days, which will be the largest amount of people buying the phone, and 2. They want to separate their big releases by a little more than a few days.

I hope I explained MY opinion well, it is late after all :).

Skype Mobile for Thunderbolt will hit Android Market on 2/27. Yep. Take that where you want to. :)

Some things I'm wondering about at this point...

- Maybe it's like this at all carriers, but why is there such a huge gap in awareness between customer service reps. at Verizon?? As we all know, it's like playing rep. roulette when you call in there and get results ranging from the very credible to the very confused. On the less clueless end, I did ultimately speak to someone there who had just completed hands-on training with the Thunderbolt and he agreed that the phone was awesome. He also confirmed (at least as of the date I spoke with him) that it will not immediately come enabled with the intended skype or mobile hotspot capabilities.

- Why is this phone on Verizon lagging so far behind the Evo on Sprint which, although presumably not as impressive as the Thunderbolt, is apparently comparable (i.e. has the Sprint version of 4 G, has a front camera, has 4.3 display, has kickstand, has mobile hot spot, etc.) It would seem Verizon certainly let its competition well establish this type of phone before answering in kind (?) Does this at least make Sprint the "now" network and Verizon the "we're in no hurry" network when it comes to the latest HTC smart phones?

- Regardless of what becomes of the mobile hot spot feature (i.e. free on the Thunderbolt speculation), why is it currently $30 extra a month to enable on existing phones PLUS per data usage?? As we know, this could add up quickly. Again, Sprint charges the favored $30 a month for the Evo enabled hotspot as well, but then it's unlimited usage from what I understand.

- Why all the floating launch dates and all the claimed ignorance on any launch date at all from Verizon sources from the ranks of Verizon stores to Verizon customer service? For what it's worth, BB on my preorder is still sticking with a Feb. 14th arrival - unless that will change when they open today with this new rumor about a delay.

- Is my longtime loyalty to Verizon still warranted? Are they still the best deal around with their expansive coverage, non-tiered data plan, Thunderbolt pending, and better 4G technology even with the aggravations well documented across the forums??

- And most of all...with Russell Brand's now rumored marital problems, will Katy Perry take my calls??

These are just some of the things I wonder about mid-week I guess. It's cool, though, that somewhere over the rumor rainbow will be a Thunderbolt in our hands. Until then, we'll continue to follow the trail...and the threads.:)

I knew nothing good would come fromthe iphone on Verizon

True, but only for folks like we are. It's more of a pain than anything. But think about all the old LG users and BB cracks that will now move away and get into touch screens with the iShit. VZW will reap a bundle with the new data plans for those that don't have one now. Then comes the fun part. All these fanbois will drool over our TB when they see how locked into the corporate Apple they are and their silly looking, boxy icons. Our devs will respond with even better roms and themes and kernels.
So the downside is a slight delay perhaps, but in the long run it will be worth it. Totally, IMHO obviously. Flame on...

They had months to develop and test the hw/sw on the TB and they just found out the issue with Skype in FEB?! Great timing VZW/HTC

I find comments like this funny (do not take personally). Verizon NEVER HAD A RELEASE DATE. They said FIRST QUARTER. They have until March 31st. Best Buy screwed up by letting everyone know a release date that VZW did not even comment on. This is the REASON VZW has not announced a date, they do not have to. They already told us a time frame, and so far they have not done anything wrong. Am I pissed, yes, but not a VZW. If they had said FEB 14th and THEN backed out, well ya. But they simply have not done anything wrong.

I'm anxious for the Bolt but does HTC have anything up their sleeve for vzw later this year that could cause buyer's remorse?

@koda41

there is nothing that will be as all around good as the bolt.. there will be more powerful devices but not a "do everything well"

much better then the one on the EVO. and slightly better then the unit on the droidx

Makes sense.

Not really. Foaming at the mouth apple fans are going to buy the iPhone. Those who have done research, will most likely opt for the androids. That said, folks that do research are not going to get the iPhone, just because it happens to appear sooner.

I think they are making much to do about nothing. They are simply pissing off those who want android.

Damn, you beat me to it. Now this brings the hope back for a 14 Feb launch. I just got off the phone with customer service and she is giving me a $25.00 credit towards an annual upgrade. I get to choose 1 or 2 years based on if the Thunderbolt has a 1 year available. She pointed to the iPhone which doesnt have a 1 year available. Here is hoping we can get a 1 year for the TB.

Man I really hope so , I was hoping to order it next week on a 1yr contract . If not I'll live but I'll be happier if it does come out next week lol not holding my breathe

Would they seriously not allow 1 year upgrades with certain phones? That is enough to turn ANYONE off...

I thought the 14th release date was kind of ruled out? maybe not?
